Camp Ashland Lodging/Campground is a campground located on Camp Ashland National Guard base in Ashland NE. You do have to have a military affiliation to stay here (veteran, active duty or work for the federal government). This is the most well maintained military campground (or even civilian) campground we have ever stayed at! The sites are quiet, peaceful and fairly spacious. The bathrooms are the best bathrooms I have ever seen in a campground. Not only were they clean but the design was clearly well thought out. The benches for clothes were far enough back that your clothes didn't get wet while you showered. The floor had a slight slope in the shower so that the water didn't spill everywhere in the bathroom. And believe it or not the water pressure was amazing and HOT!!! This place is a gem and at $12 a night quite the deal. It's about halfway between Lincoln, NE and Omaha, NE (40 /_ minutes to each), so it would be ideally located for sightseeing either. There is a small lake in the campground that has geese in it so watch out for their droppings! There are 15 water/electric sites that are 50 amp. And there are 13 tent or primitive sites. They have a nice playground for kids and the gravel road around the sites is nice to walk around. They also have 4 cabins available for rent if you don't have trailers. I'm not sure of the cost on those. One other nice thing is they give you a small binder on check in with the rules/regulations as well as suggestions on things to do in the area and local restaurants, etc. The only cons is they have the stickers and my golden doodle kept getting them stuck in her paws when she walked in the grass. It was not an issue for our boxer but be mindful and don't walk barefoot!

I can confirm the comment below from mdkrueger that there are new pads for the campers with additional concrete for the picnic tables and setting stuff up. The cost was $7/night in 2020. There was a brand new playground area for our kids, they had a building with 4 bathrooms each had a shower in the bathroom. There were also two new 3 bedroom cabins (full kitchen as well)that I think were $64/night (again 2020 prices). They were in the process of building a third at that time as well. There was not a dump site at camp Ashland but there are three within 10 miles. It was quiet and only a 25 minute drive to the Omaha Zoo. It is probably one of the favorite places we have stayed with the kids because of the nice facilities, access to other things in the area, and plenty of room at each camp site.

My wife and I stayed here for over two weeks…the end of October through the beginning of November. They are in the process of upgrading the campground with over a dozen new concrete parking spots with attached concrete pads with picnic tables and iron fire pits. Right before we left they were installing a large playground area for kids. It also looks like they are completely redoing the large pond/small lake area to have a sandy beach area. They have been busy the whole time putting our new gravel on the roads as well. The new pads have water and 50/30/20 amp power poles. No sewer. They have placed very nice portages-potties throughout the campground and they are cleaned regularly. The cost varies by how long you stay, but daily, weekly, or monthly costs are still in the 3 dollar a day range. This is one of the sweetest deals! Ashley is the one who manages the campground and everything is mostly done by phone call and credit card. Very nice and helpful staff. The campground is within 100 feet of the platte river, which a wide (and not very deep) river that joins the Missouri river just south of Omaha. Great quiet place to camp and enjoy the area. Worth a stop anytime you are passing through!

Good value free! "So is a rest area on the interstate"!!... You may get a 20 amp connection here and you may not (plan on using generator or sharing 20 amps). They may remember to get your keys ready for pick up, or they may not (come in late you are screwed). They do have ample Porta Johns! They are clean, probably due to non use. We camped here in the past, several times, but came to the conclusion that FREE does not equal good... No reason to leave the interstate, where you have a truck stop and a rest area with better amenities. It is like no one cares. I get it why should soldiers need to worry about retired military folks living in trailers and tents....Hmmmm, thank god for KBR

Camp Ashland has started charging $3/night. The reason they have started charging is they have added 30/50 amp service to most sights. Fishing on the pond will resume in 2019. The pond was restocked with bluegill and they are allowing the fish to grow prior to fishing. Water is available to fill your fresh water tank but you will have to go somewhere else to dump grey/black water. Porta Johns and dumpsters are kept clean.

Very good thing that it is free...$5.00 would be too much to pay. Not unheard of to make a reservation and show up to find no key available. Makes for a nice weekend. For free I guess can't complain much.

Ok. Here's the scoop. Camping is free. There's 15A (110 volt) service only at the pads that have E. Call the chief warrant officer at 402-309-7267 m-f 8a to 3p Central time for free limited hook ups (110v and water) you can't stay hooked up unless you get permission, but hey, if you have a splitter and a long hose..it's not like you are keeping others from water! I'm just sayin. He will email you a "packet" of information which includes your arrival & departure date, site number, map, rules, etc. You have to tell him if you want electricity and water..he'll put you in and around those areas. If not, it's dry camping and no need to call ahead. FYI. When you arrive, the gate guard will give you a binder with key if you choose the electric/water sites because they have chains on the site. The packet mostly pertains to cabins because they have them and charge for use plus 5.5% tax. Rv camping is 100% FREE, Electric or not! Just remember that while reading.
