I think somebody acted on Dede's detailed May 2023 review. The 1890s bathhouse at the center of the famcamp had been demolished & hauled away when I arrived, and I'm happy for that. WATER at lots #50-59 has remained sandy for at least three years and I've learned to use a "sediment pre-filter" to capture it, followed by a regular outdoor filter, followed by my RV's manifold filter. Famcamp management (such that it is) now acknowledges they have no on-site staff, period. When I stayed here in 2022, they were already planning to shut down the on-site office & community center (such that it was) so they could turn the entire building into an ACSC/AWC study room for all the RVers who come here for colleges. I didn't bother to visit that building, so I can't tell you how far along they've moved on that plan. I always request a spot in the 50-59 range because (a) it has no trees, (b) it has no covered patio that would force me to move for an incoming ACSC/AWC student. yet (c) it's close to the [remaining] shower & laundry facility. The laundry machines actually worked decent enough on this visit.

Maxwell AFB Famcamp is halfway point from our central Florida location to western Ky location. We actually stayed there November 10, 2021 going up and November 29, 2021 on the return trip. They had recently paved the road to the camp site at the beginning of November and we had to take the scenic route (ok - it was night time and dark so not scenic at night, but was scenic the next morning when we departed) around the Northside of the base and flight line on November 10th. As for November 29, 2021 the road near Kelly Gate (Southside) is now open. However, when we departed at 7:30am on November 30th, the Kelly Gate is only "incoming traffic", so we had to travel out the Maxwell gate -- which was fine since we were taking I65 Southbound. As for the camp site -- there were many who were staying longer than 30 days. We had a reservation with a confirmed Site # -- however, the day we arrived there was someone in that slot. Lucky for us, there were several sites open and they made the change to the reservation. ** So if they say when you don't have a reservation and it is after hours, don't park in a empty slot since maybe the camper hasn't arrived yet ***. We would stay there again!

The NEW ROAD is OPEN! You NO longer have to drive all over the base. As you enter the KELLY St gate, you will have to make a very sharp left turn on MARCH Rd after the gate shack or you will go up a hill area to the right to get you straighter for the turn. You will stay on March Rd until you see the Famcamp on your LEFT, the office is the second entrance on the left. We only stayed one night and can't speak to the facilities. USE the KELLY gate.

This is a deteriorating Fam Camp, facilities poorly kept, poor management, you must traverse through and around the entire base to get to the Fam Camp (road construction), low lying tree limbs getting to Fam Camp, too many homesteaders, grass is cut by Federal Prisoners who do not care if they hit your motor coach (don't ask me how I know). By far the worst Fam Camp we have stayed at. The Base Commander/FSS Commander need to address this facility or close it down.

We filed an ICE report using the AF on-line form. This is a military facility, This is the gist of what we said: We drive an RV with 13’4” vertical clearance . Upon entering Maxwell Air Force Base for our first visit, we were detoured because of road construction on the normal road to the RV park. Along the road, we encountered light scraping on the roof because of the trees covering the roadway, then closer to the golf course, we heard a crunching noise when we passed under a tree limb. We saw debris in the mirror and imagine that we had lost our front air conditioner. When we arrived at the FamCamp, the manager told me that ours was the third RV to be harmed by the long hanging limb. A mobile RV repairman found that the cover of our kitchen vent had been destroyed. Since our experience with this neglected overgrowth, we read another review who visited during the Independence Day Holiday, just days before our arrival, that proclaimed the loss of the guest’s RV’s antenna on the tree-lined road. Wish I had read it! The overhanging tree branches on this road need to be cut back. Many RV's are 13'6" high and the low hanging branches pose a threat from debris to following vehicles be very careful if traveling the "detour" route near the golf course. Also, the road that has to be used to exit the CG is gravel, rock, and dirt. It is a pot hole devil and from the furthest exit of the park it is about 100 yards to pavement. We crawled at about 2 mph and zigzagged around them. The sites on our row had a slight downward slope and leveling from my MY was a slight problem. Fifth wheels and travel trailers should have no problem. The FamCamp itself is quite nice and we are grateful for for the well tended grounds and the availability of the adjacent dog run. There is not WiFi or Cable at this facility.

Lots of homesteaders, reservation for holiday weekend, office closed, no maps or other info provided, took me three times driving thru campground to find site. Detour on March ave, detour took me thru base around golf course and lost antenna on low hanging trees (be very careful). Grass not cut on sites (4th July weekend) unacceptable. No camp host, NO WIFI although there are antennas up. Not a well kept Famcamp, base commander needs to address this with MWR. Thought Maxwell’s status would be better, Unacceptable for Air Force (Aim High).

Arrived on a Sunday with no reservations. Had been trying to call the FAMCAMP, only to find a sign on the door saying CLOSED 01/01/2021-01/04/2021, reopen on 01/05/2021. After looking at the availability of sites posted at the office, there were several open sites. We selected a site, filled out the envelope, paid the fee, and went to the available site. I applaud the FAMCAMP personal for the efficiency that they have done during a holiday. FYI, entering through the Maxwell Blvd. gate to go to the FAMCAMP, we thought we would never get there, but after a 5 mile drive through the base, we finally arrived at the FAMCAMP. Construction keeps one from entering through a near by gate.

Nice and flat pull through spots and a massive dog park (used to be a baseball field). The major drawback when we were there was the normal road to the famcamp was under construction and it was about a month behind schedule when we were there. The detour took about 15 minutes and there were quite a few low hanging trees along the route. Overall, we enjoyed our time there and would go back.

I agree with all previous comments except for the poor visual maintenance and upkeep of the RV Park. The grass appears it hasn't been cut in a long time and lots of leaves have clumped around the curbs, low points and trees. Many of the tree limbs over the sites need to be trimmed too; many will drag on passing RVs. In some areas the weeds are over a foot tall. With the grounds not being taken care of, the park is dumpy simply because it looks dumpy and nowhere near the quality level of most other military parks. We feel bad for the families with kids who have to play here. In addition many of the sites have overhead shade shelters over the picnic table pad areas. Most have rust and are in need of cleaning/painting. The Air Force Base should be ashamed! It's a big distracter to step out of your RV into tall grass. No matter how good the restrooms/showers/washers are, the poor visual of the park leaves you with disappointment. The park needs a lot of TLC. Also, Wifi was not available/working; we used our own hotspot. We stayed for three nights in a fifth wheel. We might stay here again if the grounds are improved.

Stayed 3 nights in 34' fifth wheel. Paid $24 a night. Nice camp but sites are pretty close together and camp is pretty full due those staying for long term training. Staff was great. 50 amp FHU and everything you need including commissary and BX (back across runway). Concrete pads were level and long enough to remain hooked up if we had wanted. Did not use WIFI but Verizon worked fine. Closest gate is Kelly gate but it closes at night. Easy to take Maxwell (main) Gate and drive all the way to the end of the street (yes I know there are shorter ways) but for those unfamiliar with the base it's easy enough to drive all the way to the end on Maxwell and take a left on Kelly and drive all the way to Kelly gate and take a right when almost at the gate. When Kelly gate is closed it looks like there could be no road in front of the closed Kelly gate (on the base) but it is there. Take the right literally right in front of Kelly gate and go across the runway to the camp on the other side. Be careful of the dips at the turns in the road. Best to go real slow at the turns. Good camp. We would stay there again.

Maxwell/Gunther AFB $24 a day concrete slab RV site with electric/water/dump/covered picnic table Pros + Campsites were plentiful, there were quite a few empty while we were staying + Laundry room (.75 per wash/dry) + Bathhouses were handicap accessible, clean and temperature controlled + Ice Machine in laundry room free of charge + About 30 channels available through regular antenna + Good Verizon coverage + Fishing pond/fenced in dog park/baseball field/base gym within walking distance + Commissary/BX with food court nearby Cons - We struggled to find the RV park, use the previously mentioned directions in other reviews - BE CAREFUL with the many surprise dips in the road, no fault of the campground but the base has many RV unfriendly roads (especially at the Maxwell entrance) - USE A WATER REGULATOR, the water pressure is off the charts - Runway is nearby and we heard trains pretty consistently - WiFi signal was spotty +/- As others have mentioned there are a fair amount of full time residence in this park, that is due to the amount of schools located on this base. Anyone attending a school is authorized to stay in the FamCamp throughout their time on the base. We found the residents we interacted with to be not only welcoming but a great resource for things to do in the area.

Second time staying here and probably the last. Not because it is a bad place, but because we really have no reason to return to Montgomery. The big bump in the right lane at the front gate one reviewer mentioned appears to be the rails for a heavy vehicle defense gate. That bump will never go away. Still the same old trailers in the old section of the park being sold over and over to new students. Yeah, many look like crap, but if the Wg/CC and SPTG/CC are o.k. with it, who am I to judge? I had a wide open site long enough for my fifthwheel and truck. I should have entered the park using the road between the old softball field/new dog park and the RV park. Already had a site assigned when I reserved, so I parked at the site and walked to the office to register/pay. Nothing flashy at this park and sites are a bit close, but it is what it is.

Nice camp. Easy to get to on the far side of the runway. Concrete pads are level. Bathroom/showers are very clean. Only negative is camp is close to a train track and the trains may disturb you.

Nice, quiet, relaxing spot but just stayed for just an overnighter traveling from Colorado to Florida. Didn't unhitched. All pull throughs and concrete pads with 50 amp, water and sewer. Excellent Showers and restrooms in the newer section. We were in site 51. Looks like a lot of nice recreational items/rentals for the nearby lake. Grass and grounds very well maintained.

I really like being able to call for a reservation. IMO it is MUCH better than being told to just show up and hope for a vacancy. Yes, there appears to be a LOT of long term residents. But, if you get a site, why does it matter? The park is not junkie looking. Sites 31-64 seem to be very long. I had site 60 and it was easily 75 feet long, maybe more. If you are assigned between site 7-30, I hope you have a coach that is not very tall. The trees near the end of those rows need serious trimming. A tall coach could easily get significant roof damage. If you are assigned to site 31-64, you might want to enter the park via the first entry road (right between the softball field and the rv park), then take the second driveway and loop around to pull into your site. Go to the office after you get set up. Besides, there is nowhere to park at the office to register. The entrance to the dog park is on the far side of the field. No wonder it gets so little use. The directions at the top to get to the base/park are accurate. I looked it up on Google maps, too. Helped make sense out of the first 3 left turns. March Rd, the one that goes around the end of the runway, is rough. The 35 mph speed limit is optimistic. Water pressure was good. Antenna pulled in a good selection of channels. Satellite reception is probably good, too. The lake area looked clean. The lack of geese is a big plus. Exiting the base was simply backtracking the entry route. If I had left during the Kelley Gate operating hours, it would have been much easier. Forget about entering via Kelley unless you can find a place to turn around after entering the base, such as the BX parking lot.

We loved it here. We were only spending a few days.  The softball fields are across the street so you can get in entertainment during the season. There is a lake with kyaks to rent. There is also a softball field turned into a pet park. Love the spacial feeling.

We stay here fairly often when traveling to/from the Gulf Coast.  Have never been turned away.  The pull thrus have plenty of length and the utility hook ups are well placed.  There is more than adequate space between units to open your slides.  Departures on Saturday morning from the center pull thrus can be a little tight if your neighbor has parked his/her truck well forward on their pad.  WiFi has always been good when we have been there. There is an old ball field at the south end of the camp that has been converted into a very nice off leash dog area. Our schnauzer loved the experience. The staff has always been friendly and accommodating every time we have used the park.  The bathhouses are clean and have plenty of room.  Yes, some people have been in camp for a long time.  Most of them are students attending long duration schools.  I have no heartburn with that.

WARNING!  When coming through the main gate, make your way to the left lane.  There is a traffic bump just before the stop light that is very steep in the right lane.  Go slow!  We had to stay at Maxwell for three weeks to have damage fixed to our tow car from that speed bump.  I hit it at less than 10 MPH!  Rick, the manager went above and beyond to help us get a site for the time we were here.  Very nice bath and laundry rooms.  Sites are fairly level with good power and very high water pressure.  Use a pressure reducer!  Quite a few long-timers, both school students and retired.  WiFi is available throughout the park and works fairly well most of the time.  It does slow down in the early evening.  We did have a partial failure of the system during our last week here so we could not connect at our site (#63) at all.  Good Verizon 4G service and in our site and we were able to get a strong DTV satellite signal with our on-board satellite dish.  There is some train and road noise very close to the park.  Don’t recommend getting fresh fruits and veggies at the commissary.  They aren’t very fresh at all.  Exchange is adequate.  Highly recommend you visit Selma, AL while you are here.  Go to the National Historic Site visitor center to learn what to see in the town.  We highly recommend Jason’s Deli in Montgomery.
