Stayed 3 nights in 34' fifth wheel. Paid $24 a night. Nice camp but sites are pretty close together and camp is pretty full due those staying for long term training. Staff was great. 50 amp FHU and everything you need including commissary and BX (back across runway). Concrete pads were level and long enough to remain hooked up if we had wanted. Did not use WIFI but Verizon worked fine. Closest gate is Kelly gate but it closes at night. Easy to take Maxwell (main) Gate and drive all the way to the end of the street (yes I know there are shorter ways) but for those unfamiliar with the base it's easy enough to drive all the way to the end on Maxwell and take a left on Kelly and drive all the way to Kelly gate and take a right when almost at the gate. When Kelly gate is closed it looks like there could be no road in front of the closed Kelly gate (on the base) but it is there. Take the right literally right in front of Kelly gate and go across the runway to the camp on the other side. Be careful of the dips at the turns in the road. Best to go real slow at the turns. Good camp. We would stay there again.

We filed an ICE report using the AF on-line form. This is a military facility, This is the gist of what we said: We drive an RV with 13’4” vertical clearance . Upon entering Maxwell Air Force Base for our first visit, we were detoured because of road construction on the normal road to the RV park. Along the road, we encountered light scraping on the roof because of the trees covering the roadway, then closer to the golf course, we heard a crunching noise when we passed under a tree limb. We saw debris in the mirror and imagine that we had lost our front air conditioner. When we arrived at the FamCamp, the manager told me that ours was the third RV to be harmed by the long hanging limb. A mobile RV repairman found that the cover of our kitchen vent had been destroyed. Since our experience with this neglected overgrowth, we read another review who visited during the Independence Day Holiday, just days before our arrival, that proclaimed the loss of the guest’s RV’s antenna on the tree-lined road. Wish I had read it! The overhanging tree branches on this road need to be cut back. Many RV's are 13'6" high and the low hanging branches pose a threat from debris to following vehicles be very careful if traveling the "detour" route near the golf course. Also, the road that has to be used to exit the CG is gravel, rock, and dirt. It is a pot hole devil and from the furthest exit of the park it is about 100 yards to pavement. We crawled at about 2 mph and zigzagged around them. The sites on our row had a slight downward slope and leveling from my MY was a slight problem. Fifth wheels and travel trailers should have no problem. The FamCamp itself is quite nice and we are grateful for for the well tended grounds and the availability of the adjacent dog run. There is not WiFi or Cable at this facility.

Maxwell/Gunther AFB $24 a day concrete slab RV site with electric/water/dump/covered picnic table Pros + Campsites were plentiful, there were quite a few empty while we were staying + Laundry room (.75 per wash/dry) + Bathhouses were handicap accessible, clean and temperature controlled + Ice Machine in laundry room free of charge + About 30 channels available through regular antenna + Good Verizon coverage + Fishing pond/fenced in dog park/baseball field/base gym within walking distance + Commissary/BX with food court nearby Cons - We struggled to find the RV park, use the previously mentioned directions in other reviews - BE CAREFUL with the many surprise dips in the road, no fault of the campground but the base has many RV unfriendly roads (especially at the Maxwell entrance) - USE A WATER REGULATOR, the water pressure is off the charts - Runway is nearby and we heard trains pretty consistently - WiFi signal was spotty +/- As others have mentioned there are a fair amount of full time residence in this park, that is due to the amount of schools located on this base. Anyone attending a school is authorized to stay in the FamCamp throughout their time on the base. We found the residents we interacted with to be not only welcoming but a great resource for things to do in the area.

Maxwell AFB Famcamp is halfway point from our central Florida location to western Ky location. We actually stayed there November 10, 2021 going up and November 29, 2021 on the return trip. They had recently paved the road to the camp site at the beginning of November and we had to take the scenic route (ok - it was night time and dark so not scenic at night, but was scenic the next morning when we departed) around the Northside of the base and flight line on November 10th. As for November 29, 2021 the road near Kelly Gate (Southside) is now open. However, when we departed at 7:30am on November 30th, the Kelly Gate is only "incoming traffic", so we had to travel out the Maxwell gate -- which was fine since we were taking I65 Southbound. As for the camp site -- there were many who were staying longer than 30 days. We had a reservation with a confirmed Site # -- however, the day we arrived there was someone in that slot. Lucky for us, there were several sites open and they made the change to the reservation. ** So if they say when you don't have a reservation and it is after hours, don't park in a empty slot since maybe the camper hasn't arrived yet ***. We would stay there again!

We stayed here June 7-11 in spot 49 next to the newer bath house. They have 6 restrooms (3 on each side) and a laundry room with 3 washers and 3 dyers, cost 75 cents each. Bathrooms were cleaned daily and in very good condition, while the water pressure in the shower wasn't as high as the sink it was still very good. Do heed the warnings on using a pressure regulator at your site. We arrived late on a Sunday and our information and site were posted on the window at check in, we had previously booked a 4 night stay on our way to Pensacola NAS. The only con this trip was the wifi signal was slow and intermittent. Camp Manager was aware of the problem and was trying to get it fixed. He also said they had submitted requests for another 6 projects including a permanent concrete structure for the new bathhouse and a new playground. Looking forward to coming again and staying longer.. Excellent staff, well taken care of landscape and quiet.

Nice FamCamp. Large concrete pads but a bit close together. HIGH WATER PRESSURE!!! Be sure to use a pressure valve on the water!! Called in advance and had no problems getting a reservation. Assigned to a site over the phone. Be aware when coming into the FamCamp approaching the office, its a bit tight, watch the building on the left, it looks as if some travelers have tagged it a few times. It is a challenge to get into the office on a mobility scooter, no ramp. Some of the facilities are dated but, good news, they are building a new bath/laundry room. They did have free WiFi through out the area. From some of the old posting this place was in need of improvements, apparently they have listened and they are making the improvements that are needed. What would make this a great place is asphalt the rest of the roads and have some more space between the sites. I would go back and use this facility again.

The NEW ROAD is OPEN! You NO longer have to drive all over the base. As you enter the KELLY St gate, you will have to make a very sharp left turn on MARCH Rd after the gate shack or you will go up a hill area to the right to get you straighter for the turn. You will stay on March Rd until you see the Famcamp on your LEFT, the office is the second entrance on the left. We only stayed one night and can't speak to the facilities. USE the KELLY gate.

We're on the road and have tried to contact host and left several msgs several days in a row and no calls were ever returned. Guess we'll bypass this park and look for one that will answer calls and take reservations. US Navy retiree

After calling a number posted on the door a call was returned almost immediately and we met the host at the office within 10minutes. We had already chosen our site and he said that was fine. It was a very nice area and enjoyed even playing golf at the base. Overall we were very pleased with the campground.

We stay here fairly often when traveling to/from the Gulf Coast.  Have never been turned away.  The pull thrus have plenty of length and the utility hook ups are well placed.  There is more than adequate space between units to open your slides.  Departures on Saturday morning from the center pull thrus can be a little tight if your neighbor has parked his/her truck well forward on their pad.  WiFi has always been good when we have been there. There is an old ball field at the south end of the camp that has been converted into a very nice off leash dog area. Our schnauzer loved the experience. The staff has always been friendly and accommodating every time we have used the park.  The bathhouses are clean and have plenty of room.  Yes, some people have been in camp for a long time.  Most of them are students attending long duration schools.  I have no heartburn with that.

R.L. left this review using the Directory software: I called on 2-14-2011 for a reservation on 2-28-2011. Rick took my reservation, and was very cordial and friendly. He told me there would be no problem if we arrived early or late. Arrived as scheduled, but after sundown, and found the site difficult to find in the dark on our first visit. Daylight would have made a big difference. Flashing lights at the Kelly St. gate and on the end of the runway tend to intimidate if you're towing; you like to know you won't be driving into a dead end somewhere. On your first visit, try to arrive in the daylight; it will be much easier to find (This is true of arriving anywhere, not just here). The park itself is well laid out with lots of wide open grassy fields adjacent to the sites, a playground at the end, and a small, man-made lake at the other end. It is very clean and well-kept. It's a great place for our two grandsons to play! At the other end, they are expanding, putting in 13 new sites. Their WiFi network works great, with a very strong signal at our site (56). They are planning upgrade to the WiFi network, anyway. (Being a computer guy, I prefer when networks are secured, but open networks are fine, if you are careful; i.e., banking should not be done on an open network. Hopefully, they will install security as part of the upgrade.) Rest rooms and showers are in individual small rooms with excellent privacy. Laundry room could be better - there is no place to sit or fold clothes. But, rates were very reasonable ($.75 per load in washers and dryers). We found our stay here to be such a pleasant experience that we decided to stay a whole week instead of the four days originally planned!

Follow the directions carefully as the area adjacent to Maxwell is under construction. Base is guarded by Air Force SP's who provide a map and directions. Camp is on far west side of the base, adjacent to golf course and running track. Outdoor activities abound, although BX and Commissary will require a vehicle as they are about 2-3 miles back to the main part of the base. Very helpful camp host. Arrived mid afternoon and camp was 100% sold out, but there were four overflow sites (no sewer) and we got the last one! Most sites were back in, and about half the camp had little or no tree cover so rooftop satellite dishes work well. Plenty of local TV channels with an antenna are available. No wi-fi, but Verizon 3G card works fine. Camp Manager said half of the camp sites are reserved for students who attend one of several schools - Squadron Officer School, Air Command & Staff, and Air War College, and a few others. These are virtually always sold out except for between school times. The other half is your basic FamCamp for retirees, TDY's, military on leave, and a handful of assigned personnel awaiting housing. Because the camp allows all eligible users to make reservations up to a year in advance, and its central location on I-65 & I-85 the camp stays near sold out all the time. Wise to always make a reservation. Will definitely stay here again. Lots of good facilities on base, although the usual local stuff - fast foods, shopping, etc., are several miles away on I-65 & US-231.

Nice camp. Easy to get to on the far side of the runway. Concrete pads are level. Bathroom/showers are very clean. Only negative is camp is close to a train track and the trains may disturb you.

CALL IN ADVANCE!! Stayed here at the end of 2013. A lot of improvements have been mad and still being made. Like before, the staff was extremely pleasant and helpful. We called in advance and made our reservation, so glad we did.. When we arrived they had only one additional space left and before I left the office it was taken. They said that the place pretty much stays full year round, so be sure to call in advance to make sure you can get a space. Since the last visit, the restrooms have been finished, more sites have been added and more trees for shade. The wifi has been apparently been upgraded. We were in site 47 and the signal was great, no matter what time of day it was. Some of the downfalls; the homesteading is still here. The building roof by the office has been ripped off by a motorhome not watching (massive damage to coach). BE AWARE OF THE LEFT SIDE ENTERING FamCamp !!!! Over-all a good stay...  Oh, one more thing... They acquired the old youth ball field at the end of the famcamp.... Now its a Dog Park!!! Its Hugh!! The dogs love it... All fenced, benches, trash cans and poop bags....(just wish people would use them) I would and have come back here... Can't wait to see what new improvements are made by our next visit.

Were there Memorial Day weekend. Had reservations so we were able to go to our site. Nice accessible sites. However, minimal shade trees in the new section. Our site (#54) had direct sun all day long. Not able to get shade even under our canopy and it was dreadfully hot that weekend. Shower facilities and laundry decent. However, it appears they are in the process of building new facilities. Heed the warning about water pressure. It is HIGH. Commissary/BX very convenient to the famcamp. Overall, a decent place to stay--just would try to get a different facing site next time.

We stayed here for 3 days Thu. thru Sunday. We came in the Maxwell Gate which was an easy go to the CG. Go to the end of Maxwell keeping to the left as you go. At the end or T junction turn left and follow Kelley St. passing the BX and Commissary which will be on your left as you travel. Nearly at the end of this street and just before the gate you’ll make a right and follow the road as described on the web site. The park is nice as described. We stayed in the newer area. Wi-Fi was great. The water pressure was high with a warning on the window at the office. The office, we couldn’t catch open which was a negative. The attendant was gone a lot. The laundry’s need serious attention. One of the machines we use, new area, would only fill about a third of the way. We put a sign on it. The trash in the lower laundry area was over flowing when we got there and was worse when we left. Venting seemed to be a problem in both laundries. Cleaning behind the machines hasn’t happened in quite some time. Other than that we had a pleasant stay.

Stayed one night while traveling from GA to TX. Made our reservation easily and found the site level and easy to get into. The directions were very good, although the gate guard (not military) said we came in the wrong gate ..... it was the one in the directions! It's a very nice campground that we will come back to for a longer visit.

G.P. left this review using the Directory software: We were en-route to FL. Stopped here for one night. We called about 4 hours prior to arrival and were given a site number by phone. Staff very friendly and helpful. Several new concrete pads were under construction as we arrived.

There are a lot of people that live at the campgrounds, so it's more like a community there. The people that I met were very nice and I look forward to staying there again. The campsites are tiny and out in the open but trees have been planted, so someday, it will be shaded. The commissary, shoppette, and bx are located a few minutes away, so that makes it very nice. There is a nice lake and a play ground. The bathrooms are smelly, but I didn't have to use them (thank goodness) because we have a bathroom in our camper. But, I wouldn't be happy if I was camping in a tent and had to use them. We got a few channels, the basic ones, so that was nice. The Montgomery zoo is very close by and that is an amazing zoo- that' actually what brought us to Montgomery, and we will be back. The library on base was small but the people that worked at the library were so friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed our stay at the Fam camp and will stay there again!

OK...Great campground. Problem is, it is saturated with senior officers going to school and they don't think that they have to be responsible for their pets (dogs). We are full timers (senior officer retired Navy) and checked in for a couple of days. Just touring around..spot was a little tough but nothing we couldn't deal with and knew in advance that we would need extensions. No problem. Had been on the road about 3 hours so our pups (2) need to do their "thing". We got positioned and parked and took our pups out for a stroll (poop bags in hand). First thing we noticed was MUCH dog crap in the grass around the RV's and then one dog charged ours because "it" was not on a leash. I think that a leash is required but not sure because we were never given any rules for the park. Maybe it's OK for your dog to crap where people walk (and no human pickup) and not be on a leash. Don't think so...then later another dog (bulldog) came into our space (at our RV no leash) and our border collie (on a leash) went nuts. Now I know that dogs should be socialized but when an aggressive bulldog charges...anyway we will definitely NOT be back because of the dog issue. Could be a GREAT park for retired (they know dog etiquette). Park host, or whatever he is, SHOULD enforce pet rules and he doesn't. Overworked..?? I think not. Leaving 2 days before we should. SUCKS man!!
