The facility itself is a great location and very nice. The thing I found disheartening was the current camp ground host who apparently just took over. He is not a nice man and has no compassion and was arrogant when I spoke with him. We aren’t use to this when dealing with the military and in my opinion, there should be no place for people like this who serve our men and women in the armed forces. We had booked 2 nights at Hill Family Camp. The night before we were scheduled to arrive, our engine died in 117 degree weather and we were stranded in the middle of the dessert for 7 hours. After 3 hours of waiting for Good Sam to find us someone who would come out that far, both our AC went out so we had to sit in our tow car for 4 more hours. Our smallest dog almost died in the heat. It was terrifying! The next day we were fortunate enough to stay in billeting on Barstow Marine Corp Base. They were AMAZING. The lady at the front desk even waited beyond her work day to check us in. She even went into the unit and turned on the AC so it would be cool for us. We called Hill Family Camp at 8am our time to let them know what happened. They not only still charged us claiming they weren’t able to resell the spot (people there told us it was FULL that night) but when we arrived the next day they charged us again for DRY CAMPING since the campground was supposedly full again. Site 22 was empty even when we went to bed. Since we had paid for a spot that we never used and we had proof of the nightmare in the dessert you would THINK a little compassion could have been extended. Also, we literally just camped there with no electricity water or sewer. I hope they replace this man with someone who is actually just nice. Our military members deserve nice.

We have been to Hill’s FamCamp several times and have always enjoyed our stay and this time was no exception. After an easy check in through the south gate (the SP guard asked us to turn off our dash cam) and getting registered in at the office, we got parked in space #33 with no problems. We had called several days ago to shorten our stay by one day. Debbie told us that if she rented the site for that day she would refund all our deposit for that day minus $10. When checking in the manager he actually refunded $15 keeping only a $5 processing fee. One thing we noticed that we didn’t experience the last few times here was the weak Verizon cell service. Sometimes we got two bars of 4g, sometime 1 bar and then sometimes we couldn’t connect at all. Our MiFi device dropped the signal several times during the busy times of the day. There is no WiFi except in or near the office. If you want to go out for something to eat in the area we highly recommend Goodwood Barbecue up in Riverdale. Best b-b-q we have had this side of Texas.

Very nice FamCamp. Only about 10 minutes off of the Interstate 15. Entry was a little difficult; the Air Force Military Police have barricades at the Main Gate and I needed to twist my truck and travel trailer around these to get to the guard for the ID check. But the camp is level, asphalt parking spaces for the RV. Showers/Restrooms clean and nice. There is a big grassy/shaded dog run area. We arrived on a Sunday and the office was closed, but they had our name and reserved space posted on the wall so we had no trouble settling in. $22/night; great bargain. Stayed 2 nights to rest. We went to the Base Exchange and Commissary for some needed things, and got Diesel fuel at the base gas station for a good price. Staff are all very friendly and base staff family members (ours was the spouse of a F35 Fighter pilot assigned to Hill AFB). We will stay here again.

This is my first review as I have never felt a need to leave one, even though we use this site to read what others have written. We have stayed at Hill AFB several times before in our camper and never had any issues. It always seems to be crowded in the Spring/Summer. Until recently all staff members have been friendly, and courteous. Our stay this weekend was in a tent and a first for us at Hill. We had planned to stay 2 nights, but due to the actions of the host left early. When we came in on Saturday the office was closed. The host Barbara (who is new and I was told a volunteer), informed of us of the locations of facilities and ice machine. She stated we could get ice & as much as we needed for our cooler in the laundry facility. With a toddler we had milk to keep cool. She was gruff in her welcome, but we passed it off as being her nature. On Saturday we went to the local water park. Upon our return we needed ice and went to the ice machine. As the ice in our cooler had melted I took everything out and turned it upside down by our vehicle to drain. I went inside the laundry facility, & filled a half bag of ice. In the process of tying it off Barbra entered. She was upset and started yelling I couldn't fill my cooler with ice, and take it all. The signs states one bag of ice per customer, and you can pay for any extra. At that point I only had a half bag. I tried to explain that I had no intentions of filing my (almost empty cooler). She seemed to not understand, and continued to yell. Another camper stepped in and tried to explain, and calm her, but she would not listen. I stated I would pay for the ice if it had her that upset. From the laundry facility, while I re-packed our cooler, until we got in our vehicle she was yelling about the ice. We drove across the lot to Howard’s office to pay for our half-bag of ice. We explained the situation to Howard, & tried to pay for the ice. Howard said not worry about it, and get as much as we needed. When we went to get into our vehicle Barbra was parked beside us in the golf cart. She started yelling again, about not taking the ice. I told her she had great customer service and I would be sure to share my experience with those online. She then proceeded to yell how the site sucks. I closed the door as I sat in our vehicle waiting for my husband to come out of the office. Once he did Barbra attacked him verbally about the ice, and resumed yelling. He again tried to explain, but she wouldn't listen. After I rolled the window down to tell him it was a waste of time to try to reason with her, to get in and ignore her she approached our vehicle and begin to yell at me again. My husband asked her several times to please move so he could get into our vehicle.. As I tried to roll the window up she put her hand on it to block it while shaking her finger in my face. We left and went to a hotel immediately! The next morning we went to the outdoor recreation office and reported all of this to Steve. From what both of us gathered there seems to be some confusion as to who is in charge and a battle for that job. Barbra had nothing but bad things to say about Howard, the Famcamp, and the area in her yelling escapade. We are PCSing in a couple of months and had planned to stay in the Famcamp as we passed through. We will find other arrangements if she is still there!

Nice campground, very friendly and helpful host. Definitely recommend reservations. The sites are long and level. Only complaint, there does not seem to be any speed limit posted in the FamCamp. Don't think anyone did under 20 mph. There are children and pets to consider. Know that most do not follow the limit signs, but it would help. Was told upon check-in, Wifi only worked at camp office. This was really inconvenient and we were forced to use our "hotspot". Not sure if this is a permanent problem or temporary. Tip: When entering the base on Southgate, first left, then take first drive past the park. Camp office is located at the end of the drive. Second drive takes you directly in the camp, but you still must register at the office.

The Manager Howard is worthless in many ways. Let me list them for you. 1. the price is 600 dollars a month, why? the place is not worth it when you can go 5 to 10 minutes down the road pay 436 and get more for less. 2. The restrooms are never cleaned unless you complain to the Support SQ commander and then it was done once with the promise to make sure it be done from now own. 3. long term camper are put in rocks while short term people are allowed to use the concert pads, please some explain that one to me other places do it the other way. 4. no internet, well ok let me explain it has crappy internet that the manager steals for himself when he wants that if you not close enough to the building you do not get a signal, while other places you get outstanding free wifi. 5. the manager use's a government vehicle to personal use and gain and nothing is done about it, and yes there are pics of it. the sad part it was a snow plow that HOWARD used while it was snowing outside to go to breakfast for 4 hours instead of cleaning the roads in the famcamp while there 6 inches of snow on the road. 6. If you piss off Howard or he does not like you, he stalks you harass you until you leave or he forces you out of the famcamp. 7. Steve, Howards boss will not do not anything at outdoor rec. to help you only try to bury you and agree with Howard and force you out the famcamp. 8. there is no HOST and Howard is never at work during the sad hours he does keep and he gets paid for this which should make you mad in the first place. 9. Howard loves to use a snow plow to move dirt around which in my eyes is abuse of government equipment. 10. In all honesty stay some place else do not stay there it not worth it. For the price they charge compare to other places and the way they treat you like crap and make you feel like you should feel like you be lucky to even stay their.

Great RV Park, one of the best we have stayed in for military parks. Directions were great and hospitality was fantastic. Nice level sites with plenty of room. We stayed in a 40 ft class A motorhome.

We have been here since November 2018 and have found this site recently. I called and asked the fam camp why are we paying 20.00 a day instead of 500.00 a month. Was told they only charge by the day. So you guys might want to change the pricing on here. (Editors note: Will do! - Thanks!)

I've been staying at this Fam Camp many times over the years. I never had a problem with Howard. The young lady currently running the Camp is doing a great job, always available. The Camp Hosts Terry and Debbie were great and helped me get a two day extension when the day I was to leave I experienced problems with my MH. Terry directed me to a retired Marine in the Camp who works on RV's. After having Scott check over my MH we found that the 4 6 volt house batteries were in real bad shape. I drove down the road and bought 4 new batteries from Sam's club and Scott installed them for me. After checking everything we found that I was good to go the next day. Love the improvements in the old area. Too bad there is a 14 day stay limit. Scott really needs to be able to stay, he's helped a lot of folks with RV problems. I had to force him to take money for helping me out.

We needed an overnight spot in the Salt Lake area and the reviews suggested Hill would be a good one. They were right. What a nice Famcamp. They were very accommodating. The host that checked us in was so nice and helpful. They gave us our site number when we made the reservation and told us to just go to the site and hook up then check in. We had a pull through site. Some of them had shade, but all were long enough for both out 35’ motorhome and outer toad. There was a lot of lateral space between sites as well. The campground and facility were very clean and maintained. The fame amp is not large, so be sure and call and reserve a site, it seems pretty popular and ended up as almost full the night we were there. The only WiFi is in the office right now, but they are working on it. Bathrooms were clean and well kept, but a little dated. The gym is across the street if you are so inclined. The directions are great. Will stay here again.

I have read the previous comments and was concerned about using this facility. However, as I expected the service was excellent and good communication is the key. We did have some difficulty contacting Howard by phone. The communications via email was excellent and prompt. We encountered some snow and had our departure time delayed prior to arrival in Hill AFB. We contacted Howard and he stayed and guided us into our sites after normal working hours. The next day we met with him and completed the proper paper work. This one man show was very professional and cordial. This FAMCAMP is Big Rig friendly. The facilities were great and the BX, Commissary, Gas Station (DIESEL), Church, exercise facilities were very close and convenient. The hours of operation were no problem, as long as you read those ahead of time and know of the limitations. Another camp host will be coming soon and should allow for more flexibility. We were placed on the concrete sites and had good hook-ups. We would visit this facility again.

Thank you for updating the directions to the Famcamp. Please UPDATE the cost for full hook-ups, they are $22. now, overflow is still $15. The showers, bathroom and laundry is very clean, better than most famcamps. Debbie in the office was very helpful and got us into FHU after 1 night dry camping.

Bad first - Only thing that is really poor is the wifi. Getting bumped off 8 times in an hr is ridiculous especially when I'm sitting 10 feet from the comm equipment. It is so bad, having no wifi would be better, IMO. At least then you would know you have to use a fast food joint (or something else) for connectivity. Now to the good; really nice grassy/shady/fenced off leash dog area. I just wish everyone would use the provided items to clean up after their dogs. At least most people do. Good water pressure. Wide loop road. My site was concrete, some are gravel. Good antenna tv reception. There are a couple sites that are drive in/back out, so you are nose to nose with the coach opposite you, but I saw only 4 sites like that. My site was well away from the road, so no road noise. Those closer to the road may have a different experience. As for getting here, if you're on I-15, I strongly suggest using Exit 331, then head east. That exit is Hill Field Rd. When you head east, it takes you straight to the South Gate. No muss, no fuss, no turns, no counting traffic lights. I would stay here again if in the newer section. No shade, but I like the concrete pads better than gravel. I had no problems maneuvering my 40' fifth wheel and long bed dually. It was a little tight parking the truck on the pad with the coach, but I made it.

We have stayed there 4 times now. It's frequently on our route from A to B and just convenient. The base is great and easy to get on and off (well - you have to get the gate guards to move the anti-tank barriers so you can get off the base with a large rig- but they are nice and do it pretty quickly. It's the folks that pile up behind you who get grumpy) First - a site with full hook-ups is $20/night. Can't beat that at all. Nice paved walking/running trails that run right by the Fam Camp and that's wonderful. 15 minutes to Costco and In-N-Out Burger. What more could you want? Goat Heads galore. Your dogs, shoes and carpet will be full of them. It appears that they are beginning to think about getting them under control. Twice now, someone else has been in our reserved site. They reluctantly and slowly moved to their appropriate site, but this appears to be a clerical problem. The office staff is nice and the camp host are very nice, but the office staff is frequently not around to fix the problems - such as someone being in your site. The paved pull through sites are a little close together, but not a big deal. We usually only stay a night or maybe 2. The camp is slowly but surely being kept up, put back in order, updated - hard to say. It really is fine. There's a new manager and I think he is trying to get things squared away. The laundry is clean and spacious. Internet only in the office area. (But really, we should not expect to be provided internet). We will continue to use this Fam Camp and are very glad it's available.

As stated below, the FamCamp is open for business. We arrived on the 20th and departed on the 24th. Howard is no longer the campground host, but still works for the base/FSS and is supposed to take care of things like the bathhouse – we’ll be watching! A new host is hired, but was not yet on duty while we were there. The young lady in the office is, unfortunately about to PCS, so it remains to be seen what will happen once she departs. Again, as stated below, the rest of the Famcamp was clean and well maintained – trees were being trimmed along the back of the back-in sites while we were there. New washers and dryers. $1.00 per load. Internet was very poor – a common trait among most FamCamps we have visited. John

For Cleanliness I would give it a 5; however, for hospitality, a 1 is fair rating. The "service" reminds me of those "do it yourself" parking lots sans attendant. Check in and check out are completely on your own. We arrived after 2200 and after hearing nothing back from whats-his-name neither by email and certainly not by phone!, we did a drive through, picked an appropriate spot, and hunkered down for the evening. Departure the next day was the same - in fact, there was an "Open" sign hanging from the tightly-locked-and-no-answer-when-I-knocked door! Man, how do I get this guy's job!?!! If you're self-sufficient like we are, this is fine, as long as there are no disproportionate responses for you making such command decisions. If you think you need a little help, don't even bother. The base itself was awesome - we enjoyed the gym, the kids loved the sprinkler park. PX, Commissary, 24-hr gas station, the museum...this base provides all creature comforts. And as active duty Navy, I can never quite get over the awesome Air Force facilities we keep running across! Finally, because we never heard from him, I'm not sure if we're paid up or not...but he had a credit card to hold it, so I'm guessing he ran and charged it...who can say, really?

Site 18 was our spot for the entire reservation. The site was level and wide; however, the site hookups (water, electric, and sewer) were all very far away. This seems to be true for back-to-back sites. Some sites are not back-to-back (Site 19, Site 21, Site 1, Sites 32-45) and seem to have closer access to the hookups. We have a 36' motorhome and lacked about three feet to reach the sewer. Keep that in mind when traveling here! The dog park is large enough and convenient. The laundry is nice with ice available. The campground is next to the base running track,5K, and 2.5K walking paths. We enjoyed the 5K path which takes you around three different fishing ponds! The campground is quiet but is also near the flight line. The Commissary, BX, and gas/diesel station are all close to the campground (within a mile or so).

Very mediocre CG run on a shoestring with only temporary management. Management is not particularly friendly or helpful either with making reservations or during check in. To say there are extended stays is an understatement. Some folks have multiple vehicles, four wheelers, and a host of junk under and around their 5th Wheel. There are no rules and pet owners do whatever they want to include leaving their parking dogs leashed to picnic tables all day long - inhumane. Others were outside caged in 90 degree heat. I would not stay here again until they get serious in managing the CG and enforcing a modicum of rules.

Location is good. New bath house and office at the Fam Camp. We call it new because was not there last time we stopped in years ago. ****** is still there and still being RUDE to campers. He should have been fired years ago. Got me how this guy gets away with treating people the way he does. The Fam Camp is in a good location for a cross country trip in RV. Clean Fam Camp. Improved some what over the years.

First off, TENTER's BEWARE!!!!!! Hill AFB only has a few tent sites and they look as though they were added as an after-thought. They are right in the median between two rows of RV'ers, under a bunch of pine trees with multiple veins of roots sticking up for your torturous sleeping displeasure. Then, there is the highway 50 yards away, plus the Rec hall and the rest of the RV crowd to keep you awake at night. Granted, it's a convenient rest stop for RV'ers, the Bx/Commissary, and Mini-Mart are very close, and the scenery is beautiful, but that's about where the accolades end. I think there are far too many people who just arbitrarily give this campground 5 stars because of its proximity to civilization, instead of taking into account what CAMPING is all about. We drove through, walked around, scouted it all out, and promptly left. In my estimation, this was a poor site selection for a CAMP-GROUND (right next to a busy highway? Come on!)!!! I did give 3 stars for the location because of the scenery, but it is a lousy location for a CAMPGROUND! And, the amenities offered were close by and the facilities looked well cared for, but if it weren't for those factors, I give this place negative numbers, if I could!
