My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the Lackland FamCamp during my short stint at JBSA-Lackland. Staff was helpful and kept us posted on availability even though they do not take reservations. Highly recommend this RV park and don't believe the hype on the homesteading. I have seen a few families there but they rotate out like everyone else.

We stayed in the family campground for 8 days and was a very nice experience. The campground is kept very neat and clean and everyone we talked with were very nice and courteous. They do not take reservations but we called ahead and spoke with Daniel before we left home and he asked us to give Dave a call on our way in on Saturday morning. Dave had a choice of 2 pull throughs available when we arrived. They both were very helpful and again courteous. there were always sites available during our stay and there are 3 overflow spots that for the most part were not used. We were there for our grandsons graduation from BMT and look forward to returning with another grandson graduating in 2022. There are 2 museums on base that are well worth seeing. One is for the Security forces and the other is for the Air Force info. The rate are very reasonable and well located to downtown San Antonio, the Alamo and river walk. Looking forward to our next stay but not the drive. Its 20 hours pulling a camper from NC. Still worth the stay.

first thing is that the types of sites available has changed... there are no longer any partial sites, they were upgraded to include sewer now... so there are now 41 full hook-up sites... the former 12 partial sites are pull-thrus while the 29 original full sites are back-ins... not sure if the 29 have CATV but the 12 do not... and the rates are different now... $20/night, $120/week and $440/month... since they recently added sewer to the pull-thru sites the ground is still soft, the office staff stated they will be adding concrete pads in the future... when we were coming into town we called the office to check availability, that was about 2pm, we left a message asking to be called back, we arrived at about 3pm and no one was still in the office. there was 1 site open so we took it (first come, first served), set up and went to the office about 4pm to register/pay and he was in the shower??? office hours are supposedly Mon-Thur 0900-1700, Closed Fri & Sat, Sun 1000-1400. Looks like there are several homesteaders that have been in their site for more than 30 days...

VERY happy with our stay at Lackland FamCamp! It is very quiet and serene. More full hookups are being added. The Fisher House is across the street and it is nice to walk our dogs there and read all the plaques about people's gifts and sacrifices. Staff is nice and courteous. Close to WH and shuttle bus can take you to BS; Commissary; etc. There is also a shuttle from WH to BAMC. Do NOT follow the directions to the camp. Enter through Luke Gate, go all the way until you reach dead end. Turn left and you are there!!!

First stay at Lackland. No vacancies but office mgmr saved us the remaining "partial" space since we were driving down from Killeen that same day. Our "partial" site had everything but sewer. Bathhouse is clean & ok, but old in need of paint and repairs. Shower stalls could be replaced too. We used the commercial gate coming & going. The sites have big trees nearby making it a pretty RV park. Nothing to rally complain about or rave about either. Why oh Why don't FAmcamps take some reservations ? Maybe reserve half, leave half open. Something , anything so you could plan on having a place to park at the end of a long day. I'd come back IF Ft Sam weren't here in S.A.

We are here for our granddaughters graduation from BMTS. There have been a lot of changes in the past 42 years when I went through Boot Camp. The only thing that I recognized was Wilford Hall the base hospital. Entry through the commercial gate is recommended I think due to the amount of traffic through the "Luke" gate. I will be egressing the commercial gate as well due to a very tight serpentine setup on the outbound side of the Luke gate. The Fam Camp facility is pretty nice. The FHU sites were all taken when we arrived. We were asked if we wanted to go on a list to move "in a few days" but we declined as we were only staying a week and had water and electric. There were a couple of longer term residence that were moved out of there sites as they had already stayed their allotted 30 days. So it would appear the office personnel are paying attention to the rules. The laundry room has 4ea Washer/Dryers @ $1.50 per load. The machines were all operational and clean. It wasn't until after we started all four machines (we were the only ones in there at the time) did we see a posted sign asking patrons to use maximum of 2 machines. Oops! The combined showers and restrooms were clean however were in serious need of a paint job. Paint was peeling and falling from the ceiling. There is no Diesel available on base. Office staff was very helpful, but they could sure use a bigger office (or smaller desk)! One other negative is there are no picnic tables in the area with no sewer (East side). All in all, a Great place it stay! Can you do anything about the humidity?

Easy access. No red-tape/inspections. Very Friendly. BX/Commissary, Gateway Club, Pool facilities, etc all easy access nearby. Also close to San Antonio attractions. Camp is clean and hosts are helpful and friendly. Arrived after hours. Selected site under shade trees, hooked up and checked in next morning. Clean showers, free laundry facility. Safe, secure. Will return.

Tried calling all day, no answer, showed up and took a partial hook up, FHU all taken. Stayed 2 nights, no host or FamCamp employee around. Called a couple days later to pay by credit card, told all sites now are 25 dollars a night. This page needs to be updated. Wifi was poor to non existence. Large Exchange and Commissary.

***Note: The Growden gate has working hours and is NOT open 24/7. We arrived late, around 9pm and the Growden gate for large commercial vehicles was closed already. Went back on the highway to find another gate and entered via the Luke gate with our military ID. It was a tight squeeze for our 31ft motor coach but the sentry were patient since there was no traffic. We followed the helpful map posted in the photos below pulled thru the loop and parked in the first vacant spot (they have little placards that show if they are occupied) set up for the night and paid for our 2 day stay the following morning. The office is only open from 8-4pm so plan accordingly. Most of the partial hook up sites were available, a plus cosidering there are no reservations. There are some permanent/full time RV residents but they are polite and helpful. We ventured out to the BX and commissary on the second day and wish we would have gone earlier it's like a big shopping mall with food court and shops and everything one could need at post/tax free prices! The commissary is a great place to restock as the prices are great, and it is quite large and very well stocked and has nice employees. Overall we enjoyed our 2-day stay and actually considered adding an add'l day just to check out the base and PX. We will definitely return here when in San Antonio. Also, The host assisted us in obtaining info for a rental car to checkout the local sights (Alamo and River Walk) and there is one on base with complimentary pick up from the camp ground. If you want a day weekday rental it's about $45/day for their smallest car w/military discount.

We love this FamCamp. The manager is such a nice guy and so very helpful. The rates might be a little higher compared to some other FamCamps, BUT, it includes wi-fi, cable and laundry. The spaces are nice and roomy. A very pleasant place and I definitely recommend it! Very pet-friendly. There are even doggie bag posts throughout.

We really enjoyed it here.  All of the folks that worked in the office were great.  It stayed clean, the facilities were spotless and the flow here was great.  There are allot of people here for long periods of time but we, and all of the others that came here, had no problems getting a spot.  Also, there are a few AD here, but, what does that matter?  We enjoyed it and would definitely return.

Stayed two weeks. This is a well run Famcamp with what appears to be a few homesteaders. While I spent the entire time in overflow it was by choice as many sites opened during my stay. There are two small museums on the BMT (RTC) side worth the visit. GPS coordinates for the gate tell you that you have arrived about a mile before the gate. Don’t worry just keep heading down the road. This is an excellent base to see San Antonio from.

I am retired Air Force and have enjoyed using Military Famcamps for many years. Until I stayed at Lackland Famcamp, I had been extremely satisfied with all of them. The manager, Greg, does absolutely nothing to ensure that the facility is maintained in a clean and orderly manner. While I was there, I saw only one person pick up the droppings when walking her dog. You can imagine what that does to a campground over the period of months/years. The "quiet time" listed on their rules is definitely not enforced. If you are seeking a place to play your loud music, run a generator, work on your car, etc. any time of the day or night, this is the place. Personally, I would not stay at the Lackland Famcamp if it was free! My next stay in San Antonio will be at Ft Sam. I sincerely hope this helps you escape the same unpleasantness that we had...

This is the second time we have stayed at this Famcamp. We enjoyed it both times. The staff are very helpful and Daniel is constantly around taking care of things in the park. There are a lot of what seem to be permanent residents here. It seems like someone has decided it is ok for this to be an extension of base housing. Too bad because it is supposed to be a recreational facility.

Great FAMCamp. Sites are well spaced. Staff rotates partial hookups to full hookups efficiently. Glad the 30-day limit keeps snowbirds from occupying all the spaces in the winter unlike other southern FAMCamps. Views of Kelly AFB and downtown San Antonio are spectacular at night. Laundry is free with new machines. Proximity to San Antonio is great. Base facilities are wonderful. Will stay here again when we visit San Antonio or pass through Texas.

We're here at Lackland now and we're sorry we have to leave tomorrow. It is very peaceful and quiet here and the weather is great. We were very pleasantly surprised when we got here to find several full-service slabs open to choose from! All the facilities are in very nice shape, and the wifi works! The staff here is very helpful, and they don't bother you with a lot of rules, they just let you relax. Also, my wife dropped a small purse with most of her cash in it. One of the workers found it and turned it over to Craig. He came right to our RV and returned it! That's integrity!
This is our third trip here, and we'll be back often. Steve & Lise Trahan.

Checked in about 4pm. No one around all day. A gentleman named Bill told us that someone would be here about 5pm to check people in. Thanks Bill. When I checked in Gary was in the office and charged me $40.00 for two nights. Very pleasant guy. The laundry room has 4 washers and 4 dryers and an Ironing board and iron for you use as well. I personally like wash and wear! Cost for washers and dryers are $1.50 per wash or dry. TV in there too. All areas were nice and clean. It was a great morning to take a walk in the rain. They also have a take one give one book/DVD rack. Though there were no DVD's in sight. Oh BTW this was our first stop on Marie and I's, adventure called retirement and full timing.

Very nice place under new management, check in went very smoothly. Facility was very clean and the laundry room had plenty of machines. Staff was very helpful and courteous. Watch for snakes, there was a rattlesnake found by our neighbors but pest control was called out and they took care of it right away. No complaints, it was very quiet and this camp is well kept up. We will return next year.

Stayed here for 6 nights to enjoy San Antonio. Pros: well groomed facility; layout was pretty simple and basic - drive around the ring and find an appropriate spot to back-in; lots of sites surrounded by trees that offer sufficient shade during the hot summer days; location within the city of San Antonio was excellent since it was close to downtown and other attractions in the South and West side of the city; great deal for $20 a night. Cons: pull-through sites had no water/sewer drops and were out in the middle of the blacktop without any trees nearby to block the hot Texas sunshine; location on base was very far from the BX/Commissary; WiFi was intermittent at my location, however the signal when working was pretty strong. We did not know about the Growden Gate requirement and pulled through the Luke Gate without any hassle from the Security Police.

Not really impressed with this camp, a lot of homesteading and active duty personal who are taking all the spots away from others. Dog feces was all over the place. The camp host was not very friendly or welcoming. Thankfully we only stayed one night.
