Best value I’ve seen in a long time for a military campground. All sites FHU , level, paved and large. New cement patios. Not much in the area. But be sure to eat at The Mocha House in Warren.

The campground is on the Youngstown ARS Reserve base in Ohio. There are 16 total full hookup sites, 5 pull-throughs, and 11 back-ins. The entrance is tight (we have a 43-foot 5th wheel). Security Forces can pull up the lane posts if needed. The Rec office (they run the FamCamp) is closed on the weekends. We arrived on Sunday and just went to our site (it tells you on your email receipt). We just went back on Monday to check in with Jason. The rec office is inside the base gym. Jason is GREAT! We plan on returning and signing out a couple of bicycles to ride around. They have many other items you can rent or check out for use. The campground is nothing to write home about, but for $15.00 a day, what can you ask for. They offer weekly and monthly discounts. The pull-through sites are narrow and have crushed asphalt for the patio area. The guy mowing runs right over the loose asphalt rocks and doesn't mind if it might be shooting rocks toward any of the RVs. He was very friendly, though. We did hear that repaving all the sites might be in the works. Not all sites are big rig friendly. The campground has a 1/4 mile running track around it, and it is great to walk/run on (made of spongy material). The restrooms/showers are in the Fieldhouse. While it is kept clean, the showers could have been better designed. The water soaks the floor beyond the shower pan area. I learned not to keep towels or clothes there (they got wet). There is no place to keep your stuff off the floor and near your shower (unless it's the handicap stall). Shower curtains that went to the floor would fix this. ***Laundry: All the paperwork says we could use on-base laundry facilities in the lodging buildings (111 & 112). We went there, and all the signs posted said we could not use them. We called Jason (rec office), who told us they no longer allowed the campground customers to use any on-base laundry facilities. The closest laundromat was Vienna (289 Youngstown Kingsville Rd, Vienna Center, OH 44473). The great thing about this laundromat is that it is right across the street from AmVets Post 290. We walked over to the AmVets, and they were SUPER friendly. Even if you are not a paying AmVets member, they will welcome you with open arms. Please visit the AmVets and support them (struggling to stay open). Their address is AmVets Post 290 - 290 Youngstown Kingsville Rd, Vienna, OH 44473
The base has a very small BX / Shoppette. It has a decent selection of beer, wine, and liquor but not much else. There is a great Gaint Eagle grocery store (12 min from FamCamp) a few miles down from the AmVets (4700 Belmont Ave, Youngstown, OH 44505). Be aware that there will be random detonations (loud booms that will rock your RV) and aircraft noise at all hours. If you have any issues with detonations (PTSD), be prepared. We almost jumped out of our skins on the one that rocked the 5th wheel. Overall, I would stay here again. For the price and the AmVets post so close, you can't beat it.

Small campground, but easy pull-through sites. FHU conveniently placed. Background noise throughout the weekday evening but not too distracting. Amazing bargain though right inside Ohio, six miles off Interstate 80. Additionally, make sure that registration is done when the FamCamp office is open, M-F, 9am-4pm. There is NO reservations taken on the weekend, nor is same-day reservations available after hours. But, the FamCamp office is really quite helpful when open, but do not expect any email reservation confirmation, so take notes when making the reservation.

This is one of the best values we have found in our travels. We spent 2 weeks here and would have stayed longer, but we had to get on with our schedule. This facility is big rig friendly, with electricity, water, some sites with sewer, super clean shower facilities, asphalt pads, and very friendly, helpful staff (Jason), all for $10 per night. The base itself has very little in the way of services, so no commissary, but It is conveniently close to almost anything you might need just a few mile's drive down the main road leading to the entrance. There is a small exchange convenience store on the base that carries Class 6 and other items at good prices. The campground is completely encircled by a large asphalt running track that runs right behind many of the sites, as well as a tactical exercise area, and it was fun to watch some of our nation's finest staying in shape at the facility. The showers are just a short walk from the sites, maybe 250 yards away. There were at least 6 showers including 1 handicap shower on the men's side in what is essentially a locker room setting. During our entire stay of 2 weeks, we rarely saw anyone using the showers which were very clean. Overall, this is a very pleasant place to stay and was very quiet most of the time, except for the sound of freedom during daily flight operations. We hope that our travels will take us back to this place again.

We found this Fampcamp on another site called and they returned our later in the day. They had one spot available for the night. We tend to travel back roads and stay off of interstate highways, so this fit right in with our travels. Most nights we never know how far or where we will be for the night. Again this was a great choice for us. It is very clean and nice sites. All are hard surface parking with elect and water, some with sewer. The dump station is easy to use. There is no place on base to eat but a short trip into town and you can find anything you want.

Very small CG that's very easy to get to off I-80. No issue getting through the gate in a 44ft 5th wheel toy hauler. Easy to back into site and people there were friendly. So you wonder why I only give it 3-star on a few categories. They should make all sites 50 amp. Our site had a 20/30/50 amp breaker, but no 50 amp plug. Thats an easy issue to fix. Only 5 sites were FHU with 50 amp and occupied by homesteaders, 2 out of the 5 were 30 amp trailers. With only 30 amp service in my site and the temps, I had to run the generator for a few hrs to cool it down, once the sun and temp dropped I could run off the 30 with 1 a/c unit. The price is excellent and cant be beat. This CG has so much to offer if they would change a few things. Need to limit the homesteaders and keep 3 out of 5 FHU sites open. I would come back depending on what time of year. I would recommend making a reservation which we did. With it being a small CG you will want to reserve a spot. Good luck getting a FHU with 50 amp because they are full.

We spent 3 weeks visiting family and friends not seen in many years, Jason was very helpful and maintenance was always well done, Everyone we came in contact with was pleasant and professional, Small base and a small CG with only 5 FHU sites (2 were held by PP) and 11 W/E sites (at least 2 held by PP and 1 held by one deployed I was told), If back in the area it would be nice to stay here again, The base got a new commander during summer and is scheduled for more 130s and 1400 more personel, Hopefully the need to expand the CG for travelers and visitors is seen along with the growth of the base.

It is a very clean and organized place. It is very open and spacious. It has a nice 1/2 mile track that I enjoyed walking every other day. My husband and I have to stay here for 15 days due to trailer problem. Jason at the famcamp is very helpful and accommodating. Overall, we have a good stay and hope to come back in the future.

Conveniently located off SH 193 slightly north of I-80, and somewhat south of I-90 via OH-11 South. 15 sites: #1-5 are FHU, 30/50 amps. #6-15 are 30amps, electric/water. Clean bathhouse 100’ walk away. Great athletic center with gym, racquetball and weights; FamCamp checkin located within, Jason runs the show. Base is almost identical to Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, my “home port” and another AFRC base. Well worth the visit, and an outstanding value. We stayed for four nights on site #6.

I like it. It's a well kept small installation. Has a small convenience store size BX, sells just some essentials. We stayed on our way out to Wisconsin from the Poconos 1 night and on our way back (12 July 2021). Some of the sites have no sewer, but for one night it can't be beat! There are no picnic tables, but our camper has a table that tucks in over the storage cabinet if we needed it. Nice quite place to pedal bikes around. The manager had lost our e-mail reserving our spot the second night, but since we beat the other booking in and he found (I had a printed copy) our e-mail from him confirming our stay, the over booked unit went into overflow. They only stayed one night too.

I have to agree that Jason was fabulous. The only thing about this site is not having very many stations with Sewage Dumping capability. There is a community facility for dumping, but it’s kind of inconvenient to disconnect everything to go dump every few days. The ability to book one of the 5 stations that has dumping capability is next to impossible due to some of them being used continuously by base personnel. Otherwise, it is very quiet, with the exception of the occasional siren for drills. I do highly recommend this site for a stay.

Great little campground on a very quiet base. Stopped for one night. Nothing was open. We went to Outdoor Rec to pay but since it was the weekend, it was closed. We called on Monday when we were on the road and made the $10 payment. Only complaint was the O6 "leaders" who want to be above everyone else and not following the rules. (You really can't enforce rules if the O6's don't want to follow them, right?). This should definitely be an IG complaint. They occupy 2 of the 5 50 AMP sites. Would stop again. We stayed in a 45' 5th wheel and the guards opened the gates for us to get through easily. Restaurants and shopping about 15 minutes from the base.

Very, very nice little campground. It's new (opened in May of 2018) with asphalt sites and asphalt road, grass between each site, well spaced and utilities in good location and good working order. There are 5 pull through sites that are FHU and the back in sites are 30 amp with no sewer. There is a conveniently located dump station. Our only complaint was no wifi. (There is no cable either, but we have satellite so don't care about cable.) As we pulled in off the road towards the gate, they started opening the side gate that we didn't have the obstacles. That made entry very easy. It's best to go to your site before you check in because there really isn't anywhere to park at the MWR office. Jason at the FamCamp office was terrific. We wouldn't hesitate to go there again.

The previous review that stated this FAMCAMP is a hidden gem is absolutely correct! Very easy to find. The SP's removed the barriers when we entered and departed to make it easy to get our 45' fifth wheel through the gate. FAMCAMP was very clean, very quiet and peaceful. We were there on a Saturday so the field house and outdoor rec were closed. I couldn't pay the $10 fee since both were closed but we called Jason on Monday and he took the payment over the phone. Electric and water were fine, although the water had some rust in it. Dump station on the way out was well maintained. Nothing close to the base but 10-15 minutes from the gate is plenty of restaurants and shopping. Here is my biggest gripe (and no fault on Jason, since he inherited the problem)...two homesteaders in prime spots (two of five 50amp spots). The 5th wheels in the picture at the top of the page are the two I am referring to. These two homesteaders are both O6's and don't appear to have to follow the rules. They should be the examples, not the exceptions. Overall, a nice stay and would definitely return.

Not much to do around here but centrally located between Cleveland, OH and Pittsburgh, PA., about 90 mins to either one. Clean facilities, laundry must be by the office at Outdoor Rec. (We have our own so I didn't bother looking.) Sites are narrow and the asphalt is VERY soft, your Jack's will sink. Our neighbor was kind enough to help us get some very solid planks to place under our Jack's after the front one left about a 6-8 inch hole behind. Coming in the gate the guard opened the "closed gate" entrance for us. Would NOT recommend driving in until they open the gate for you, it would be too hard to maneuver the barriers otherwise. Another RV had an incident when a guard wouldn't open it for him.

The bathrooms were clean; the electricity at our site was fine. We didn't use the water - didn't need it for our tent. I can't comment on the other Amenities since there were none. Not even a picnic table at each site. On the other hand, the price was great and the place was quiet. We did hear the sound of jets taking off and landing until late, but that wasn't noise - it was the sound of freedom!

Our son is stationed at this base, so the location could have not been better. It is quiet (except 1st weekend of the month for drill) and close enough to "town" for all amenities. Previous reviews of the sites are accurate...50A FHU pull-thrus are narrow and the 30A W/E back-ins have more room. The showers & restrooms are immaculate. There is no wi-fi or cable on the site and the amenities are limited on base, but definitely worth the $10/15 a night. The two 5th wheels that are parked permanently in the pull-thrus are active duty Commanders that come and go as they please but are also keep an eye on things (good and bad). Jason from Outdoor Rec could have been nicer. We did have problems with rust in the water which our water filter actually turned rusty. Went to rinse out the water filter at the water hydrate at the next site, only to have rusty water come out immediately which gave away to clean water. We reported the water issue to Jason but one of the Commanders mentioned that the water issue had been a problem for the last year on base.

Jayson at outdoor Rec made our visit very easy, I had a harder time finding his office than the CG. Easy reservation and check-in I just dropped the camper at the Famcamp, and then drove back to Outdoor rec. The FamCamp was clean, comfortable. 50A FHU Pull Thru sites very narrow, You step out of you rig on to the grass. Overall we enjoyed our visit of 5 nights. Only one place to eat on base, lunch only except Thursday (bar night). We spend winters in Tyndal AFB and at NAS Jacksonville, so the QUIET here was a nice surprise. (Only one to two flights in or out each day.) Toured Mill Creek Park in Youngstown for the day and the Butler Institute of American Art, both well worth the drive. Shopping and dining were two exits down rte 11 at Eastwood Mall in Niles. We will be back again in the Fall

This place is a hidden gem! Although the layout of the CG is not the best, it is extremely quite and well maintained. We were in one of the 5 FHU/Pull-Through spots, but 3 of them seemed to be occupied by 5th-wheels with no occupants! The area and shopping around the base is also excellent and very nice neighborhoods! Biggest let-down was no WiFi, so we had to use a data-hotspot...

Stayed here for one very rainy night in June 2018. Arrived late and was escorted to the FAMCamp by Security Forces - which was nice considering the visibility. Called to make reservations in advance and the Outdoor Recreations specialist (Jason I believe) was very courteous and accommodating. It was a Saturday night and the base was pretty much deserted and quiet. The RV Park looked nice, well laid out and clean and adjacent to a Civil Engineering work area. Electrical panel was new and water was easily accessed as well. The base gate was set up with bollards so you have to go slow on the way in and out to make sure you don't hit anything, but it was not hard to do - I was towing a 30' fifth wheel trailer. Great spot for an overnight stop if you are passing through the area.
