I am curious also. We have reservations for this fall, but looking at alternate plans at this time just in case.

Arrived on Feb 1 and sent to "the field" to dry-camp with probably more than 20 others. Office said 3-7 days in dry camp. There are still lots of vacant FHU sites but word in there are still major electrical problems - and cable and water issues. They installed all new white multi posts (W/E/C) but did not connect the water so still using the old water hydrants.

As for the 'new' office, well construction was to start last spring, then last fall now who knows.

So it says reservations are recommended a year in advance. HH6 and I are retiring this summer and have a workcamping gig in north central Florida at the end of the year through the winter. We were going to stop there for a few days before we start work. Does anyone think things will improve or be ready by 1 Sep 16? Is it worth making reservations now, or should we just move on to something else? Thanks.

For what it's worth, we've never had a good experience at MacDill. Lots of favoritism there, and the lack of progress on upgrades makes it worse. Although it's great campground, marina, golf, full base services (Commissary, fuel, BX, etc) the CG staff is uncaring and less involved in the issues that make a stay pleasant.

We've lived in Florida for five years, and part-timed in Florida for over fifteen years (since 1999) and pass by Tampa pretty often traveling around the state in the RV. After a few times camping at MacDill early on, we gave it up completely.

We're not surprised at construction delays and off-schedule. We'd expect it won't change, and will probably interfere with any concrete planning you may depend on. Personally, we'd recommend other bases in the panhandle or Jacksonville area if you come to Florida and want to spend time at MCG's.

Been here nearly a week and figured a few things. "Rotation" only goes from dry to either partial or full - which ever is available on your rotation day. Spend 14 days and then back to dry, no more dry to partial to full. Things are still a mess as the contractor who installed the fancy new multi-post cut the cable lines while digging. All you get from the new post is electric, still have to connect to old water hydrant and old box for cable.

No signs of a 'new' office building. Feel sorry for the office having to work in a cramped old construction trailer with no restroom facilities. Considering how much the park brings in daily they could at lest provide decent facilities to the office - that might help improve the attitude they some times have.

We will probably spend our next two weeks here and then move on, won a week of cheap camping at an RV resort near Lake City and that will put us on the way back home.

Was just at MacDill last week and it is still the same, electric from new post everything else from old stuff and I didn't see anybody working on anything new. It was our first time there and the grumpy guy at the office didn't bother to tell us the new post didn't have all the new hookups and we were scratching our heads why we didn't have any water for a few minutes. We had a lot of fun there for a few days and then went on down to the keys.
