We are full time RVers and travel from famcamp to famcamp. First of all, make sure you use the right gate, it’s listed above in the directions. The RV gate is closed. The only issue with this famcamp is that it’s in the back of the base all the way around the airfield. We had a mix up with the host as far as dates go, but they let us boondock one night and we really appreciated that because some bases do not allow boondocking! Sites are pretty close together, but the area is clean and bathrooms were typical famcamp. The base is very nice with lots to do! We would def go back to this base!

Great location for visiting the USAF Museum and junction of I70/I75 when traveling. Improved campground appearance. Bathroom/laundry cleaned up from our last visit. Homesteaders still living there. Guess management hasn't heard of AFI regarding long term "housing" at FamCamps. Same rude campground host. Same useless MWR.

Two night stay. We were last here in 2015 and the place has not changed much at all. The sites are level and well kept. The utilities work well (water pressure has improved since 2015). The grass is plentiful, well kept and green with dog stations in various places. The camp host is friendly and informative. We were there during the lead-up to the Dayton Air Show so things were picking up a bit, but it was still quiet and friendly. We focused on the Wright Brothers history this visit and it was well worth a very full day. We enjoyed our stay and will stay again if our routing brings us this way.

The Rv gate at the coordinate is permanently closed. The campground is very busy we arrived without a reservation and spent the night dry camping, no hook up at all. Camp host said they are full year round.

Husband and I decided stop and try this FamCamp on our way back to Michigan from West Virginia. We stayed 2 nights...on 2 different sites. Our thought was that because we made a reservation so close to our arrival day is the reason we had to move. We arrived to our first site, which was a pull-through, and set up was really easy. Our first time dealing with a water syphon pump (or something like that). Love the close proximity to the Air Museum...echoing others as a must do when you stay. I'm guessing if you go for a longer stay then they won't move you around as much, but it seemed to be a common practice. The morning we left, our neighbor said, "you guys heading out or just to a different spot" Happy Camping!

Overall we liked the campground but it's not very kid friendly. No playground or anything of the sort but there is a lake to go fishing in. There is also a rather decent size dog park. We didn't see the Camp Hosts, we did come in at 1900 on friday but never got greeted. Some of the other FamCamps had a community fire ring and 'Happy Hour" for us adults and that is something they should start there. Nice place to stop if you are on a longer trip. Google took us to a closed gate so if you are going there Google Hope Hotel and it will take you to the Main Gate. A must see and do is the Air Museum!!!

This was a great campground to spend the week. The directions provided to the campground were spot on and navigation in the campground was easy. Excellent commissary, exchange, class six and gas station. This campground had the best Wi-Fi of any military FamCamp I've stayed in. I was able to stream and get things done online the whole time I was there. The camp host was very helpful, kind and kept the grounds clean. The bathhouse and laundry were in good shape. The shower and bath could use a major overhaul. Very dated and falling apart, but functional and clean. The concrete pads were level, water, power and sewer were stable. Keep in mind you are at a military base. There is a loudspeaker at the FamCamp that is very loud, so be prepared for bugle calls; 0730 morning Reveille, call "To the Colors" at 1700 and "Taps" at 2200. (Brings back memories). Plenty of restaurants close by and the Air Force Air Museum is a must see.

Stayed here for two weeks in a 40 ft. Class A. The sites were very level, clean and well groomed. The entire experience was as if we were in a high end commercial campground. WIFI was excellent, as was ATT, The camp hosts were over the top in service and information, I wish all our stays could be as excellent as this was.

We knew we would be late arriving due to equipment problems and called ahead to let them know. The host was very pleasant and helpful, even texting us directions to the campground for after entering the base. The sites were fairly level and clean, the grounds were in good condition, and there were no obstructions near the road so I had no problem backing my 40-footer into a site. It is a bit of a drive around the flight line to get to the campground but not overly burdensome. The road that one must first turn left on (Spruce Way) from Gate 12A was closed for construction, which necessitated driving through a residential area to get to/from the campground if using that gate; usually after hours. We spoke to one of the guards who told us that we could exit through Gate 26A (Commercial Gate) if it's open when leaving with our coach. That advice was very helpful and got us on the road home a lot quicker. I'm a less than 100% disabled veteran and had no problem getting on the base. We arrived after Pass and Registration (and Gate 15A) had closed so entered through Gate 12A. They let us in with only a look at my VA Health Card and advised us to get properly checked-in as soon as possible, which we did. The check-in at Pass and Registration was quick and simple. They scan your VA Health ID Card and look at your other ID and guests' ID, fingerprint and take a photo of you and your guests for a background check, issue a pass to your guest(s), and explain how to enter the base. Your VHIC is good for entry for 3 years but the guest's pass is only 24 hours so they have to check-in at Pass and Registration every day. That's a bit of a hassle but never took very long. The AF Museum was great (as usual) and we even got a flyover by a flight of F-16s as we were leaving.

Be prepared for a 15-20 minute drive to the CG even after getting through the gate. The CG is on the smallish side and sites are fairly close together, with interior roads a bit tight. We did not use any facilities so cannot comment on them, but for the reason we were there (NMUSAF), it was a great place at a good price.

As a retired DoD Civilian with a DoD Civilian Retiree ID card, I generally have access to MWR facilities, including Air Force FamCamps. However, per official Air Force policy, my access is at the discretion of each base commander. Furthermore, my ID does not always allow me to sponsor my wife onto the bases where the base commander has chosen to allow me access to the base. For that reason, I generally call the base's Pass and ID office before a planned stay to determine whether or not I have access to the RV park and whether or not I can sponsor my wife onto the base or, alternatively, she is eligible for a visitor pass. When I called Wright-Patterson, I was told that I could sponsor my wife onto the base as long as she had a valid driver's license. Upon arrival, we showed our IDs and were waved onto base. After setting up at the FamCamp, we decided to visit the Wright Brothers shop in Dayton and have dinner off-base. When we returned to the gate, however, we were told that official base policy did NOT allow me to sponsor my wife onto the base and that she would have to wait at the (off-base) Air Force Inn while I packed up the RV. Finally, after considerable discussion, we were allowed an exception to base policy and allowed to complete our planned stay. That experience explains my individual ratings, fours across the board except for a one on the overall experience. Needless to say, we won't be visiting again.

We came by way of Cincinnati, OH during rush hour and it was not a pleasant experience. When we finally made it to Wright-Patterson, we were glad to see our name on the site all ready for us at the Famcamp. I had used Google Earth to locate the Famcamp and the gates and had a picture to guide me. We attended a military reunion located at a Hotel nearby and it was not really inconvenient for us going all the way around the flight line to get to the gate. Our neighbor next to us at the Famcamp was also going to the same reunion and this gave us an instant companion. It was reasonably quiet and aircraft traffic very light.

We enjoyed our week stay at this FamCamp. Of course, we visited the museum for a few days. The FamCamp is very reasonably priced and is kept in good condition. There were no signs of "homesteading", although you're allowed to stay up to 6 months. Camp hosts were nice and helpful. Sure, the drive to the FamCamp seems long, but you're on the other side of the base, on the lake, away from the main base action. Commissary and Exchange are good. WiFi was okay, but we did have some problems connecting at times. We used the laundry and all worked fine. Restrooms were kept clean. Although not a fancy "resort", the campground is comfortable and priced right.

So the big thing for me with this campsite is the the basic functions of a military institution. I understand that there are patrons that enjoy to visit due to the museum and maybe even work on base, but allowing long term stays for 6 months without taking into consideration of family PCS moves is ridiculous! Overall cleanliness is great, sites are decent, and facilities are okay but require major updates. Some of the sites are placed in a manner that you have to back in against traffic and then drive down the street and pull a hard uturn if you need to enter the actual camp area to go dump...and unfortunately, all of these sites are not full hookups! The other big problem that this campsite can't help is that you will be driving for 15 minutes around the airstrip. Sites are priced very well. Nearby lake is okay. The camp host/managers are very nice. This base is so large! WHY is the famcamp as small as other small bases around the air force! Overall decent campsite.

Our second stay in the last 2 years. The sites are mostly level and the wifi is actually pretty good. We were able to watch Netflix and other streaming services with no issue and the park is actually full. They also take reservations which is a really nice thing. There are a few long term campers here but nothing is junky. The biggest issue is that it is a LONG drive from the nearest gate to the famcamp. There is nothing near the famcamp either. BX/Commissary/Gas is a 15 minute drive. They are building a new gate much closer to the famcamp and it should within the next 12 months or so.

We used this as a stop on our way home from the east coast and visit the National Museum of the USAF. Facilities were very nice; WIFI worked and we had good cell phone reception. Only issues is you have to go through the main gate for Area A (Gate 1A) to access the base. It is a bit if a challenge to get through the base until you get to Loop Road. They are building a new commercial gate near the old RV gate. Hopefully campers can use this gate once it is complete.

This was my second stay at WP Fam Camp. Both were great. Vicki doing a excellent job. A little tick on facilities, because the site that I was in did not have septic port. But otherwise all was good.

The previous reply must have a beef with new management or someone. This place has improved tremendously since Larry and Vicki took over managing it. Slowly improving things. New electric posts at sites, not all done yet. New picinic tables at all sites, no more concrete benches and tables. All sites have new posts with boxes that they put the name of Reservation and check in, check out. WIFI has improved greatly from 2 years ago, yes it could be better, but it's better than most campgrounds we have stayed at, might need an extender to pick up the signal better. The price of $25 is still good, Famcamps nationwide have been raising their rates and this one is still better than some of the others that are $30 to $35. Private RV parks are in the $40-50 range now. I don't remember anyone managing this campground in the past, I think some people became self appointed managers and if I remember correct, created some of the problems. Homesteading doesn't appear to be as bad as it was in the past. The grass and campground was in shambles 4 or 5 years ago. It has come along way since. Most sites are level, some will pool water during heavy rains. Electric and bathrooms are good. Also, no all Famcamps have dog runs or playgrounds. This place is great for the Museum and area and price is right. Reservations recommended.

The hidden Gem of Gem City is tarnished...the overall cost of WPAFB FAMCAMP is now too high IMHO. This used to be a very reasonable campground that charged about $17/night. New policies in place and the nightly rate has skyrocketed to $25/night. The overall cost doesn't sound ridiculous, but the campground doesn't offer much of anything in the way of amenities. The only thing going is free electric and you get to hear the National Anthem played every evening at 1700. There are no playgrounds, there are no dog runs, the water pressure is beyond poor, and you can't even fully enjoy Bass Lake because the floating dock is submerged because the contractor didn't build it right during the last fix. They do have decent bathrooms with showers, and there is a small laundry facility on site, and they do have a very limited WIFI connection (you have to be sitting right outside the shower house to get a signal). We enjoy the company of folks who stayed at and managed this campground in the past. We frequent this campground to visit family in the local area almost yearly, so it pains me to see it heading this route. I'm sure a few of our friends are still camping and working at the campground as well. We even helped maintain the campground by cutting grass and helping with landscaping when we stayed here in 2016. The sense of community and the amount of effort folks put in to keep the campground looking good and being a friendly place to stay was remarkable.

The sites are ok, not the most levelest as water can pundle if u have one of those site and days. The week I stayed Dayton broke its coldest temp, new one is -7. That being said the water did freeze up, if I would have had enough water in my tank i would have been fine. I just used the bath house which was very clean. On my site I never did get water so I ran hose over to the next site, which was working, I believe my water handle was inop, no biggy. Getting on base can be tricky, just use main gate off. 444 and Chidlaw Rd,which enters the base, next look for Mitchell Rd and Riverview Rd, you’ll see the campers from there. Reading directions can be confusing so just find these points and use ur google map.
