This was a perfect stay for us. At $30 a night we were able to get a spot for 3 nights so that we could visit the surrounding area. The camp host Laurie was amazing. While the facility itself might not be aesthetically pleasing it serves it's purpose for camping. I am told that this summer there are going to be upgrades and more spots added. If you need lots of trees and shade this is not for you. The bathrooms were well maintained as well as showers and laundry. Everyone was super friendly with lot's of military TDY staying there. It's quiet and easily accessible from the highway. Just remember to take the FAR RIGHT lane to enter through the S curves. They will come scan ID and open the gate for you to get in.

Nice RV park near White Sands National Park. Bathrooms and laundry are clean and well maintained and the washer/dryer, only one of each, are free. The $20 fee is a plus. Nice well stocked commissary and exchange with a food court a short distance away. You should check out Mc Ginn's Pistachio Ranch, NM Museum of Space History, Cloudcroft Mad Jacks BBQ-mouth watering brisket, the Very Large Array.

Nice RV park near White Sands. Bathrooms and laundry are clean and well maintained and the washer/dryer, only one of each, are free. The $20 fee is a plus. Nice well stocked commissary and exchange with a food court a short distance away. The White Sands are a fun place to visit, but I would recommend doing when the weather is around 70-80 degrees. The wind makes it cold and we did not stay out very long due to it getting cold early.

The directions for coming in the main gate are correct. However, the far right lane should be used even if it is closed. The guards expect large rigs to use this lane and may search the vehicles. There is less chance of striking the tall curbing in this lane. After going through the gate, immediately change to the left lane to take the first left on Alamogordo Ave. A lot of the street signs are unreadable because of fading. Cable is available through a local company if you subscribe to it. Fitness facilities seem marginal since nothing seems to get fixed - fans, water coolers, cardio equipment. Staff is not knowledgeable in the use of the equipment. Reservations are recommended as the campgrounds are usually full.

This FamCamp is close to SR70 and easy to get to. It is within 10 miles of White Sands National Park and just outside Alamogordo which has tons of stores and restaurants. The sites have concrete pads and are level. The sites are close together but we did have enough space so we did not need to unhook our ~30' trailer and could park our 2nd vehicle on the spot as well. One thing this FamCamp did have was children and it was nice to see them playing and hear their laughter. After hours was very quiet other than the occasional hum of traffic on the highway but even that was minimal and not disruptive.

We did a 2 night stay at Hollomon's FamCamp. It is close to Hwy. 70, but our trailer is fairly soundproof and the traffic noise wasn't bothersome at night. As the directions say, there is a tight space to get in through the main gate. We have a 27' trailer, and we had to go slow with less than a foot on each side of the trailer at the gate! The hookups are great and there was free laundry which we needed to do after travelling for 2 weeks. For $20, it was a great place to charge everything up, have a good cell signal for streaming (we could never get into the campground Wifi system; it didn't even come up on my phone), and visit the commissary and gas station. VERY close to White Sands National Park too which was our destination for this area.

This was definitely a different famcamp. It is pretty decent but right next to the main highway so it can be a little noisy. There really isn't any staff or camp host there. You just go into the laundry room and fill out a card, put your money in the envelope and put it in the box. They do have surprisingly fast Internet there though. We posted a video tour here as well.

Nowhere on the website does it state that anyone having been outside the state of New Mexico in the last two weeks must be medically cleared by Public Health or they will have to leave the camp site per Wing Commander Policy. However, such a notice is posted in the laundry room. Having reviewed the web site before traveling from AZ with the expectation of an overnight rest, I had already put my envelope and fee in the lock box before seeing the notice posted on the bottom of the fee chart. It being after hours I was unable to contact the camp manager. Being unwilling to settle in for an overnight rest and risk the possibility of being asked to leave in the middle of the night, we packed up and left making our visit an expensive bathroom break. When using your website to plan a stop over such information would be extremely valuable.

This is our 4th stay over several years. The only improvements are the cement pads in the 'new' area. The facility is more rundown than our last stay. The laundry room is totally nonfunctional. There are no clear registration directions. We were trying to register before 3pm on a weekday. Host was not on-site. Found the registration material hidden by disabled washers in the laundry room. Filled out envelope and dropped in small wooden lock-box. My main gripe is the height of the sewer connection. If you use the sewer connection, you have to 'milk' the sewer hose to ensure it is truly empty before you disconnect. Yes, we will come back when next in the Alamogordo area.

The only reason this stop is on our list is that it is on the way. The locations is good, It's a military base, and I am retired military.. Anything else is a zero. 1. There is no host. If you find a spot, pull in, go to the laundry, fill out an envelope. 2. The connections are "on the ground", (very short posts) This is difficult because I am disabled and have mobility issues. 3. The park is a secondary housing area for active duty members, as evidenced by the RV with the permanently mounted canvas sun screen which has been there for at least two years. 4. The "free cable and wi-fi" was non functional, even after I repaired the connections I had to set up my .portable satellite system. In my opinion, the USAF needs to take another look at the so called "FAMCAMPs'. They are rapidly becoming a secondary "sub-standard" housing area within the military. Several states, Oregon, Montana, and others are looking at RV Parks and placing severe restrictions on the RV'ers, such as, 30 to 60 day limits, must move out for 30 days before returning, etc. Wake up people, this may be a pleasant experience in the short term, but it is not a way to raise a family.

I couldn't leave a comment unless I rated the facility, even though we were there only for 1/2 hour. Arrived at Holloman AFB FAMCAMP 20 December 2020 at 1500. Arrived at registration, only to find out that anyone coming in from another state (we were coming from Luke AFB FAMCAMP) needs to be quarantined 14 days before allowed to request a spot. You can secure a spot if you have a letter from a health facility stating you have not been exposed to or have had C-19. Plenty of spots available, but they were all coned off. The person giving us this information was very pleasant, going the extra mile to help us fine another location. The only problem is, that New Mexico is only allowing their RV locations for RV'ers only 40% of their total spots to be occupied. Holloman AFB web page does not have any information on their C-19 restrictions for FAMCAMP. If it had, we would not be spending the night at a Wal-Mart parking lot. PS: Started calling the FAMCAMP on early Friday to find out any kind of information, no one answering the telephone or email address.

Was trying to decide between Holloman and Fort Bliss for a short stopover on the way to Fort Huachuca when I read the last two reviews. "Can't be that bad", I thought. Well, guess what, it was. The host was in church when I pulled in at 1230 on a Sunday so, with advice from a resident, I went ahead and pulled into one of two vacant sites, very happy to have found a place to drop anchor for three nights. (The host WAS available at other times.) I particularly second the observation about FamCamps morphing into mobile home parks. Base commanders (and DOD in general) need to consider the purpose (the "mission") of on-base RV parks. Are they to be constructed and maintained as FamCamps or mobile home parks. If the former, than there should be a time limit on stays. From the Holloman Outdoor Web Page: "It [the FamCamp] is a place to stay while in transit or on vacation". Contrary to this mission statement, there seem to be PCS families staying in the FamCamp. For sure, there are resident families occupying sites while the military member is undergoing 9 months of TDY training. One of the Outdoor Rec office personnel told me that the 'T' in TDY satisfies the "transit" requirement in the mission statement. Disagree. (I have submitted a similar note to ICE at ice.disa.mil.) A correction: The Outdoor Rec web address is now hollomanfss.com/odr.
For info: The listed telephone # rings a phone in the Outdoor Rec office. There will be no one to answer when the office is closed (see web site for hours). Neither is there any canned answer, the phone just rings and rings and rings.

Definitely no frills here. Basic tight camping sites, gravel with concrete pads, and picnic table, fairly level, couple trees here and there, all hook ups. Sewer pipe is too high off the ground, with my class C, hose has to go up hill. Even too high for those hose ramps. Cable totally inop! Get few local stations off the air. Wifi is total JUNK! Had to waist my limited phone data to search for our much needed house. Good thing we aren’t paying a lot, $100/week, because if it was more, I’d be standing on someone’s desk. It is in a bad location. It is right next to the main highway. Very loud and constant, even at night.

Holloman is not a destination location. So with 35 FHU sites you would think there would be no problem getting a spot. Guess again. We were lucky to get one of 2 open spots upon arrival. Of the 35 sites we counted 30 occupied by full time active duty with a few retirees thrown in. We have watched this and many famcamps slowly morph into trailer parks, but this is the worse circumstance we have ever witnessed. No limit on stay. Some have been here "years". All ranks from A1C to LtCol. The camp host is an active duty family. I have no idea what they do other than occupy a spot at likely no cost. The grounds are one big weed patch with most of the trees and shrubs all but dead. There are no enforced standards here. Dogs run loosley and drop their waste with no pickup. Very young children are left unattended to play in the roads. Trailers are in disrepair and many appear as though they have been set up with steps and shade cloth to be a final home. It is a true trailer park with no standards to speak of. If they are going to allow it to be used as a permanent housing area, simply take the famcamp sign down, charge full housing allowance for those living here and drawing Quarters. Unfortunately this is becoming the new famcamp model for services throughout the AF. Shameful and Sad....

We came in on a Saturday, planning to stay three nights. Our experience at the main gate initiated the frustration. As noted in the description above, using the main gate is tricky, very tricky. We have a 36' motorhome, pulling a small SUV toad. I am pleased to report that using our mirrors and taking it slow, we were able to make it through the "S" curves and narrowness of this gate without jumping a curb or hitting the concrete supports at the awning. We made it to the FamCamp, greeted with a sign to check in with the Camp Host at site #___ (10, I believe) before selecting a site. I walked to the Camp Host site only to find a sign directing me to another Camp Host site. When I walked to that site, I was greeted with another sign telling me to self-check in at the laundry room. The laundry facilities seemed well kept. We didn't use the facilities but others were using them and seemed to have no problem. We selected our site, which was one of the newest ones with no covered picnic area (sites with covered picnic areas are the first two rows of spots; we took a space on the third row), and proceeded to hook everything up. We had a cable box and connection, but the cable did not work. We wanted to ask the Camp Host about the cable and a couple other items but I could never catch them at their site. I tried both hosts three different times over the course of several hours that afternoon. Because of all this, we decided to shorten our trip from three nights to one. We left out the next morning. A block wall is the only thing separating you from the Interstate. However, the noise from the highway was surprisingly not that bad. There is no dog park in the FamCamp and the spaces to walk the dogs were not well kept, all dirt and rocks with trash mixed in. There was really no grass to find (my dogs really like grass)! One star on Cleanliness/Hospitality was specifically due to Camp Hosts not being available. The camp, overall, is clean. A FHU site, $20 is a good deal. WiFi was not strong at our site, which was on the back row. The location is great, though! You are a short distance from the White Sands Monument and the missile testing areas. We will consider staying here again and hope future reviews are more positive than the experience we had on this one particular day.

Visited the FamCamp on March 8, 2019. It had been quite a few years since we've been here. I was stationed at Holloman AFB back in the late 90's. They had already installed the additional 12 FHU sites, but still needed to add the shelters at each site. They also plan to build a BBQ Pavilion and do some landscaping. The RV Park was about 50% occupied. There is evidence of some long-term campers here, but only a few. This is really a no-frills RV Park, but does meet the basics. Too bad the location isn't away form the highway. Coming in the commercial gate is the easiest way with a large RV, but it's only open weekdays from 0600 - 1800hrs. Large BX and Commissary on base, along many other amenities.

Stayed last week while traveling through. Two nights. It is as close as you can get to White Sands National Monument about 7-8 miles away. That in itself made the boring camp worthwhile. Wifi was strong when near the laundry facility -very nice amenity to have to catch up with email. The laundry facility was helpful, but could use some work inside with perhaps installation maps and other pamphlets for tourists. The impression is that the camp is very low priority for this installation. If you venture out to the base, they have a really great library, golf course, running areas and base exchange, commissary. I'll stay here again if in the area - enjoyed the view of the mountains with sunrise and the close proximity to highways to travel to my next destination.

Well its a place to be and have the essentials - pretty its not, kinda scruffy actually. Interesting as I think the rest of the post has spruced up since our last stay. Definite homesteading presence. But, everything we used worked and I didn't see any out of order signs. I had a great Verizon signal so didn't bother with the wifi or cable. Long term rates have been reduced (!) week is now $100, a month is $400.

Open dry campsites, only amenities are BX, commissary and gas station, no diesel and no propane on base. Base commander should provide funding to cleanup the area.
