We live in a rural area. There are no sidewalks or dog parks but we do have a street light at all 3 intersections on the main road. The village is so small the largest road junction is a "T" and controlled by a stop sign when the snow plow hasn't buried it. My neighbors a couple properties down from me had experienced a slip, trip and fall that resulted in his wife Jane breaking her ankle. As my wife was driving by one day she saw Janie in the driveway and stopped in to see how she was doing. This was an unusually warm day in March when the temperature was above freezing. Here in Northeast PA we have 9 months of winter and three months of bad sledding. Anyway, Caroline was talking to Janie when she noticed Jimmy was selling one of his motorhomes. They chatted some more and when my wife got home she informed me Jimmy is selling one of his motorhomes and that I ought to go talk to him because he could probably give us a better deal than he was publicly asking for it. So being the dutiful husband I went and talked with Jimmy while my wife was away visiting her mother for Easter. Her mom lives in Ireland and I remained behind and went to work everyday. Well...Jimmy and I got around to discussing his 1994 28' Ford Coachmen Santara motorhome and where it has been, what condition it is in, and most importantly how much he wanted for it. I left there interested but not committed. I did some research and discovered he was below book value on his asking price and it seemed to be in fairly good condition. I have seen some party wagons that were so trashed there was more aluminum in the sacks inside than there was on the entire coach exterior. At any rate, I go back down to see Jimmy and talk him down almost 20% from his original proposed price and he accepts my cash offer. I go off to the bank, get the money and come back and we complete the deal and transfer the title and all. I call my wife who is still in Ireland and tell her I purchased the motorhome. She responded with an "Oh My God! That thing is huge. Where are we going to park it? What will Dave and Linda next door say?" and she expressed a few other concerns as well. So I ask her if she was serious when she told me I should go down and talk to Jimmy to which she replied yes and I breathed a huge sigh of relief. My son, who is in Ireland with my wife visiting his Nana, remembered back when he was in junior high and high school and we were stationed in West Texas and I had an old cab over camper in the back of "Old Ugly" our pickup truck. The camper was so badly hail dented it looked like it had spent years sitting 150 yards or so out on a driving range. Man we had a lot of fun fishing, hunting and camping with that thing. He is asking mom "What did dad buy? Please say it isn't like the last one. You know dad would camp in a 55 gallon drum if he was warm and dry." So I emailed them pictures and the fears of a single wide trailer with three wheels melted from their imaginations. I am told my wife wants to go watch our son play in some paintball tournaments and we can use the motorhome for that. My son has laid claim to it for at least two Penn State tailgate functions that he and his alumni multi-family of friends and vehicles attend each year. My dad is feeling a bit nostalgic and has decided he would like to travel around New England and visit places from his youth. So I am now a new motorhome owner with "plans". But first, I need to get the motorhome back from the mechanic with a couple of new tires, a new drive line center bearing, a fresh inspection sticker, and then get a front end alignment done while I read the manual to refresh my memory on where all the switches are and what they operate so I can fulfill everyone's travel dreams.

HI! I am J.P., retired from the Air Force but still work for DoD as a civilian, and I purchased a motorhome and have good intentions to travel with it.

I put the fun in dysFUNctional.
