Also had some problems with damages to the sticker when I cleaned the windows or in heavy rains that faded it. So when I recently got a new one, I covered them with acetate and stuck the package next to the window on the inside of the windshield. It's a snug fit and you can hardly see that it's not on the outside. I've been thru 1/2 dozen checkpoints and no one has denied me entrance.

Just renewed one vehicle at Ft. Belvoir. They stated that there are no plans to stop issuing stickers. Ft.Belvoir is the closest military installation (and home to our commissary) and have been very gracious and helpful supporting this Navy family.. (ID cards, stickers, legal docs)

Thanks for the info. The nearest base to me is about 100 miles away and it's USAF. Didn't know if we were 1000 miles from home near an Army, Navy, or Marine base and asked for a base sticker if they'd question why we weren't going closer to our home or trying where we've never been stationed.
Appreciate the info.

Sometimes, but not always, a vehicle must be registered in the state where the base is located ... unless you have active duty orders to that base. Before anyone travels to another state to get a sticker, you might want to call and check. When I went to Otis Air Base in Mass and still had California plates on my truck, the base would issue no sticker until I got new registration as I was retired and had no orders. Then, couple weeks later, I drove to Newport Naval Base (the closest commissary) and still with my California plates, and they did issue a sticker... so, it depends upon the command, apparently.

I purchased my RV in Dec and did not have a decal because AF doesn't do that anymore. When I drove to the first military campground (CG @ Elizabeth City) I explained my situation and the civilian guard said if I had a few minutes, they would give me a sticker instead of a temp pass. I said sure!!! They closed my lane down and let me stay in the RV while they did all the paperwork and even stuck the sticker on for me! WOW! It took them only 3 minutes. So I am an AF retiree with a CG sticker. I like it - it is colorful! I found it depends on the base if they will give you a sticker, give you a temp pass or disallow access completly.

Got a new truck this summer to haul the 5th wheel with and got new sticker at the "Barracks" here in PA......Dock asked about the sticker issue and they told him the same thing about "Homeland Security" rules.....so no change there.....
