Cherokee Campground...about 5 miles from downtown Helen. Nice couple run the place, FHU, pull throughs, very reasonable price. Here's their website:

Have fun!

The only thing wrong with being retired is that you never get a day off!

RiverBend Campground is an awesome campground. It is about 2-3 miles from Hiawassee, GA. It can be accessed from either US 76 or GA 17. It rests on the banks of the Hiawassee River, which the kids loved to wade and swim in. They also allow some fishing. Quite a few FHU and some "homesteaders". But you better reserve early. They take reservations 12 months out and they are booked for this fall.

We spent 2 weeks in Helen last month. Stayed at Creekwood Resort. It is a small RV Park clean well cared for lots of shade. Good cable and strong wifi. The owners are great. It is 6 miles North of downtown Helen. Unicoi State Park is there too and their lodge has great food at a decent price. Creekwood has a website too.
Happy travels.... Clarence & Judy

Thanks for all your replies. We were lucky enough to get a cancellation at Creekwood for 5 nights. This will be our third camping trip. The other two have been only 2 & 3 hours away from home, so we're very excited to be going farther away and getting out of hot Florida! It's not really camping until we have a firepit & make s'mores, as far as I'm concerned! Looking forward to Oktoberfest in Helen, seeing Anna Ruby Falls, and hopefully hubby will get to do some fishing.

You will enjoy Helen and Creekwood Resort. Tell Melisa the old happy guy (Mr Cotton) with the remote controlled Skunk recommended you to stay there. They do have fire pits there. Great little place right across the road that makes fresh cinnamon rolls in the mornings. Recommend going straight thru Atlanta, but not during rush hours and Creek wood has good directions on their site.
Happy travels... Clarence & Judy
