Feb 2022 - Sigsbee has been a favorite place for us for many years but this year we are to a point where we are probably not going to return any more. The incompetency of the office staff and the Gestapo attitude of many but not all of the camp hosts is at an all time high. As things are currently being run I really do not recommend this location to any one any more and it breaks my heart to say this because we really have loved the place and the people that we have met here. Unless the commander and the MWR director are able to drain the swamp in the camp grounds office and get the place running like an MWR facility should run, many many folks we know will not return. I would bet you that none of the people in the office even know what MWR stands for and I find that very sad. There are so many examples of why I am saying this that I don't want to use up that much space and time but I assure all of you that I am not some disgruntled ticked offed camper with a chip on my shoulder. I do feel however that there used to be a time when the camp hosts used to welcome guests and not spend their day looking for issues to harass the campers about. They are so petty about some of the things they jump on people about it is just ridiculous. I believe that the numbers of campers in the camp ground bears out what I am saying also, because I have never seen so few people in the camp grounds this time of the year ever. February is normally one of the busiest months down here and this year they have never been full even though the office will tell you otherwise. I have counted the empty sites almost on a daily basis and the dry camp has had at least 25 to 45 empty sites since January and this is very unusual. I really hope that the powers to be wake up and see that the office managers at Sigsbee are not doing what they were hired to do and get this place straightened out before it is ruined. People like myself that really love coming to this place will only tolerate so much incompetence and dishonesty before they give up on Sigsbee and find other places to go. I hope and pray that MWR at Sigsbee finds a way to return to caring for it's retirees and vets and active duty as they should because they deserve it.

I am active duty and vacation with my family at Sigsbee usually twice a year. I made our reservations while stationed in Korea this year. I arrived at midnight. I didn't want to bother the camp host with calling him until a reasonable hour so I figured I would call him around 0900hrs on Saturday morning. The camp host arrived to get me at 0700hrs and show me to my spot on the water. I can't remember his name only that his last name started with an "O". Awesome, super friendly guy. We pulled into a spot on the water and the views were amazing. We noticed lots of upgrades to Sigsbee since our last visit. The first we noticed was the internet. The WIFI was far faster and easier to access than in years past. We did notice many of the people did not come outside during the nice days. We just figured they were in their coaches surfing the internet. The bathrooms were clean and had been remodeled since our last visit. We saw a lady cleaning them daily. There is a laundry facility that costs a couple bucks in quarters to use and was adequate (which is why we didn't give it 5 stars). We went to NAS Boca Chica to use the beach. Anyone who complains about Sigsbee really needs a reality check on life and be a little more appreciative for what Sigsbee and the surrounding area has to offer. This is an amazing place for $24 a night. As for the complainers. I was reading some of the reviews about people coming to Sigsbee for the last 20+ years, it seems like they are taking the place for granted and just like to complain to have something to complain about. We did notice a lot of people who appeared to "holding themselves at bay" in their coaches, meaning they didn't come out much and when they did they seemed moody or sour. Instead of complaining about the grass around your lot, borrow a mower from the camp host and cut it. It would take you a total of 5 minutes. Instead of complaining about trash, help police it up. Instead of complaining about generators, use some of the money your hoarding and invest in solar. Instead of staying logged on to the internet all day long, log off so others can enjoy it. Be part of the solution not the problem. As I head back to Korea I can't help but wish I could spend one more day at Sigsbee.

Sigsbee MWR has gone downhill in the last couple of years. All they care about now is making money off the campers. 1. No more grass cutting by the base or MWR. Place looks like crap everywhere. This is in all 3 Sigsbee campgrounds. 2. No more MWR sponsored cookouts or picnics. The pig roast that used to be every year is no longer being put on. 3.No moving to other sites that may be empty. I guess it is too much to ask of the 5 or 6 people sitting in the office. 4.Roads need maintenance bad. Big pot holes and when it rains floods everywhere. Nobody gives a damn I guess. 5.They should build another bath house at the east end of the dry campground. Can you imagine 225 dry campers (rigs, probably at least 400 guests), and 15-20 tent sites using a bathroom with two (2) commodes, 2 urinals and 3 showers for the men. Four (4) toilets and 3 showers for the women. This would violate all codes in the civilian community. 6. This year they added additional boundary lines in the 100 section and prevented the rigs from backing up too far. This was supposed to be for storage which never was used. Campers were harassed if they were a couple of inches too far back which no effect on anybody else. I personally saw a handicapped person forced to move his trailer because it was a couple of inches too far past the line going towards and empty grass area. Ridiculous to say the least but nobody will say anything because they are afraid of the camp manager throwing them out. 7. Laundry room maintenance in the circle is hit and miss. Washers and dryers are overworked and not fixed in a timely manner. The change machine has been broke for 2 years, MWR could care less. 8.Rough estimate would put the camping fees collected at 180K per month. I am sure the employees aren't that high paid so where is all this money going. Surely not back into improvements in the campground. 9. Many sites in dry camping now do not have picnic tables. Last few years every site had a table. I guess they will not spend the money to buy any more. 10. This year the circle campground is over run by Key West chickens. They crow starting at 0300 and continue all day. The chicken feces is around the camp sites posing a health risk but I guess the Navy thinks this is acceptable. It is impossible to get a full nights sleep unless you are in full hookup with the air conditioning running to block the crowing and cockle-do-do noise. Why isn't the Navy health dept. looking into this? This list is just the tip of the iceberg about what is going on down here. It is still a good deal for the price but it sure could be better. Compare this place to Mayport Naval Station campground and the difference is night and day. I believe they are both under the same MWR management. After talking to many campers here most feel the same way but are too afraid to say anything since they might get asked to leave. One person had the Security Police called by the staff to kick him off base when he was given conflicting information by the staff members. When he disagreed politely the gestapo was called on him.

Been camping at the NASKW (Sigsbee) RV Campgrounds for a number of years. We typically stay 2-4 weeks. Our latest stay was in Oct 2019. A few updates. There were a bit more full hook-ups available this year vs. the last two years. Still a number of homesteaders. One welcome change: they've hired contractors to cut the grass. Years past, each camper was responsible for cutting the grass at their respective RV site. Another change, no more FHU to FHU site moves/changes allowed. Only dry camping to FHU or vice versa. Choose carefully when you arrive. They've reduced the number of dry camping sites at Trumbo Point (only open during the Oct-Apr high-season). I'd guess-estimate a 30% reduction. A number of sites adjacent to the Coast Guard station were turned into vehicle/RV/boat storage. Also, several rows of sites next to the helicopter pad were taken out of service due to RV's being damaged by helicopter rotor wash. Even before this site reduction, Trumbo Point was typically at capacity from Dec-Feb. This site reduction is going to make availability even more difficult going forward. If you have plans to spend the winter at NASKW, I'd suggest making reservations at navygetaway.com or calling ahead to check on availability before heading down the Keys. Dry camping and FHU rates (for Active Duty/Retired) remain the same as last year at $17 and $27, respectively. On another topic, a previous reviewer was very critical of the NASKW campgrounds (no beaches and limited space). I believe they would have been disappointed staying anywhere in the Florida Keys. First, there are no real "beaches" in the Florida Keys (only small, man-made snip-its of non-indigenous sand). Secondly, EVERYTHING in the Florida Keys (especially the lower Keys) is "crunched" together--lol (land is scarce and very expensive)! IMO, The NASKW RV Campgrounds continue to offer significant value and convenience. Public RV campgrounds in the Florida Keys can easily run more than a $100 a night. The Florida State Park RV campgrounds in the Florida Keys do offer substantial value and ambiance at $30-$40 a night; unfortunately, they're typically booked up to a year (or more) in advance. Safe travels! Be safe!

This is just an old soldier's opinion - here goes. We are back at NASKW for our 3rd year in a row. Love it. The rules seem as straight forward this year as they have been in the past with the addition of a consideration for active service members. I remind my fellow retirees of 2 items: 1. If it wasn't for the active service at all locations the FamCamps more than likely wouldn't exist. Remembering the numerous PCSs we made, I appreciate the active service members staying here with their kids. Great time for mom/dad time before the next deployment. 2. If we don't like the conditions here, we always have the option to try to find a spot in some of the local campgrounds. Price average about $115/day and RVers are in their neighbors living room (very tight quarters). Will we come back - almost positively. PS: we have stayed at numerous FamCamps across the US. Some are better than other but all contain my fellow military family brothers and sister that have always felt like family. And thanks to www.MilitaryCampground.us for a great service. Added a pic of sunset from Sunset Lounge.

This was our first time in Key West FL since we live in CA. (It's a long way to go for an East Coast Ocean view campsite.) We can't say enough good things about the NASKW RV Campground; (Sigsbee RV Park). The Camp Host (Mark) was so helpful and spent the extra time and effort to ensure our Campsite and accommodations were perfect. Since we arrived late due to traffic, Mark was very accommodating and quickly met us at the RV parking area and escorted us to our site. He helped with parking, and gave us very thorough explanation of the facilities etc. since this was our first time in the area. The Staff was very helpful on check-in the next morning and clarified many logistic issues that apparently were incorrect given in the reviews etc. Yes you do have to fill out lots of paperwork etc but that's a normal procedure for most Military installations. I would like to clarify the reservation system; 1. If you book via the https://hmsnvreservations.dodlodging.net website, You receive the site that you booked on those dates! We did a 5 month booking in advance since we were traveling 40 days on the road and had to lock in dates for our route. 2. Many reviews (older now) stated that when you first arrive you might be placed in a holding area for up to a few days before you can get into your site. NOT true. This might have been an issue prior to the reservation system but no longer. 3. This was one of the main reasons why I only booked for a few days. We are in a 2019 Newmar RV which is basically controlled by electronics/Solar etc and I did not want to run a diesel generator all day to keep the wife and 2 small dogs cool in AUG. 4. Booking with the reservation system is the only way to secure you have a full hookup site on the dates you have selected. 5. If you don't use the reservation system then it will be a random event if you can get a site during off and on season. The Amenities/Facilities are fantastic for the price you pay! For what we paid during the week would have cost us one night in the Keys at many of the local RV resorts. Granted you must be a Military affiliate to be able to stay at this location but our service is being rewarded for the 20+ years we spent in the Military. As some reviews stated best to go to the Base family Ticket office right next door to purchase discount tickets for various activities in Key West. Some Favorite attractions were the THE KEY WEST BUTTERFLY & NATURE CONSERVATORY and Key West Shipwreck Treasure Museum. Additional information: https://www.navymwrkeywest.com. Effect February 1, 2020 this was a major change in the way the campground operates. In the future you will NOT be rotating to full hooks from dry camping; you will be in one or the other--only! Secondly, after this season you will only be allowed to stay in this campground for 90 days and then you have to leave for at least 60 days. Just make sure you understand the new rules that just went into affect.

Reservations in advance now MANDATORY. Do NOT arrive without reservations in advance. Contractor type generators will not pass new decibel restrictions of 74 db at 10 feet. Either bring quiet RV type portable generator or expect to be told not to run it or being asked to leave. Bring enough power cord to meet new mandate of all portable generators MUST be placed front center of the RV (no longer optional placement). When you arrive you will be given a pamphlet of the on board NASKW rules - PLEASE actually read it. Busy season is here. With over 70 in dry camp on Sigsbee as of today, at this time expect no more than 2 weeks in full hook up and at LEAST 2 weeks in dry camp (up to 6 weeks as it gets even busier). Upon arrival you will start in dry camp. Please watch your speeds in the campgrounds - (5 mph). Lot's of kids here this year.

Here they go again, making up the rules as they go. Dry camp has been empty for awhile now. We have had empty full hook-ups for a few days. A friend went to request a different site and was told that they couldn't move because it would screw up the rotation of everyone else. Nobody has rotated in weeks! They would still have the same number of empty sites if they let them move. I think that Dawn is holding the sites for her friends when they come over from Trumbo. It should be first come first served to be fair to everyone. This place has really gone down hill since she took over. They don't cut the grass, rarely do they trim the trees, when they do they just leave the trimmings lay where they fall for weeks. The roads are terrible gigantic pot holes that turn into mud holes 6 to 12 inches deep. This place needs a complete makeover starting with the office workers. The other thing is the chickens, not to mention the health issues for the kids and pets they get on your RV, tables, chairs and anything else you have outside and craped all over them. 12 ecicks were just hatched, about 10 are still alive 7 of which are Roosters, we will never get any sleep next season!

Value: considering it is KW, you can't beat the price. Civilian places cost! Hospitality: Camp hosts are ok. Not the best but ok. One host there should get a job at the county jail He is rude and his NAZI approach to you is horrible. He has his good old boy club. When anything went wrong and he wanted to nail you for some mickey mouse thing he always made sure to tell his good olde boy club members (the RVers he loved). This guy is bad news. Name is *****. Base: has all you need. Commissary, NEX, gas station etc. Only problem with Sigsbee location is there are no longer guards on the gate. Job Blow the civilian can drive through all they want now. Yes base security caught a few of them and escorted them off base. But still not a good feeling. The ladies in the office are great. The camp ground hosts need to improve on their manners and customer service. Some of these host never made it past E3 in the military and now being the all mighty host they want to play CSM (E9). ((Thrumbo still has gate guards)) Bath house: most of the time was dirty. Over used. Laundry: broken machines that never seemed to get fixed. People brought their dogs into the laundry. Even got hostile when told no pets in the laundry room. Guess this is how military camping is these days. Guests: Lots, repeat lots, of CIVILIANS signed in by a authorized sponsor (i.e. retiree, base member etc) are staying in the Fam Camp. You will not notice these types until you ask their status and how they got on base. Few told us "we were signed in by some guy we met who is in the Navy." Worse is these sponsors are never to be seen again and leave these CIVILIAN to be on their own. Sign these civilians into the Fam Camp and never come back. THIS IS WRONG. MWR should be more about taking care of the military instead of worrying about making money. Military have earned the privilege to use such a place. I agree sponsoring a CIVILIAN is ok IF they are related to or immediate guests of the military person signing them in. This is a get over system by civilians (don't mean civil service folks...mean civilians who have not worked or served in the military) to get a huge savings on camping in Key West on base. Tent camping: tent campers are not allowed at Thrumbo. Was nice when they could camp next to the pool. But new commander, so we were told, decided NO tent camping at Thrumbo now. Few tent camping areas at Sigsbee. One is along the water in front of the RVers. The RVers whine and cry about tent campers and their POVs "blocking their view" Well folks the tent campers didn't make that location for tent camping. If you want to whine, whine to the office NOT the tent camper. The hosts are not the nicest bunch of guys towards tent campers. Guess these guys graduated from Howard's Univ (at Hill Fam Camp) with a degree in how to be rude. They are building a tent area on the far side of the FamCamp. Will be a &_#&@( to tent camp where they are making this area now. No view. No breeze. Parking will be tight. Can already see the RVers act like they own all of the spaces along the street where the new tent area is being made. We would NEVER tent camp there.
Overall Experience: KW is great. Love downtown. Most of the RVers are ok. Great number of them are snotty. Generators running all the time. Despite turn off hours. Again its who you know and b&@% if you can get over on the rules. Majority of the RVers never go far from base and their RVs. Seem to have their "groups - clubs - who is who gangs" Sad thing is when asked many of them do not know beans about KW. Never been to Fort Jefferson or anywhere in the area. Few are town drunks. Thrumbo: Thank God ***** the head NAZI is no longer a host there. The " I know everything in the world" maint guy (or wanna be maint guy) at Thrumbo is still there. And still rude as ever. Suggestion: if MWR even reads this page -- put a time limit on how long a host can be a host in KW. The longer they stay as host the more they start to think they are the base commander and make rules up as they go along. That is exactly what host named ***** was doing last winter. Making up rules as he went. WRONG.

We've visited the NASKW Sigsbee Campground with our RV a number of times during the last 8 years. We're currently 2 weeks into a 4 week stay in the "Circle" area (full hook-up). With the Fantasy Fest (18-28 Oct) a few days away, Sigsbee's full hook-up sites are nearing capacity. Mandatory "rotations" from full hook-ups to dry, and vice versa, will likely start in the next week or so. With the recent implementation of the 180 day maximum stay limit (requiring a 14 "night" departure before returning) homesteaders are a bit less prevalent than in the past. FYI, the rates for full hookup sites increased a dollar to $27 (for retired/active) on 01 Oct 2018. I believe the dry camping rate went up a dollar to $17, too, but haven't confirmed that yet. The GoWiFi (free) has been up and running (in the Circle) with little to no downtime (~2.0 mbps down/~.80 mbps up). Operationally, everything is more or less back to normal after the hurricane last year. The most noticeable change is the loss of vegetation and trees in the "Circle" (Maine Rd.) and "Hollywood" (NW corner of Arthur Sawyer Dr.) areas. The "Rock Pile" (far east corner of Arthur Sawyer Rd.) had very little vegetation to begin with so not much change there. As for Key West itself, it doesn't appear last year's hurricane has had any lasting effect. All the fun and festivities seem to be on par with years past :) Update/correction: Previously I posted that the management at the Sigsbee Campground had sent out a 25 Oct 2018 flyer stating generators will be allowed to run 24/7 in the dry camping areas---no more generator quiet hours. On 26 Oct 2018, they sent out another flyer reversing policy, stating the 11pm - 7am "generator quiet hours have been reinstated." Hhmm, not sure what to make of this flip-flop.

We absolutely loved our stay at Sigsbee! We've been anxiously awaiting the reopening post-pandemic and are so excited to hear they are taking reservations again 6/1/2021. We'll be on the line making our winter reservations! Retirees can reserve sites up to 6 months in advance. Please note there have been some major changes posted from the command this week. Maximum stay is now 3 months and there is so more "shuffle." Instead you make reservations for FHU or dry camping. We hope to get FHU, but we loved our stay there so much, we're willing to dry camp for 3 months as well. The great thing is they have a nice large dump station with two lanes and plenty of potable water stations. Sigsbee is basically a housing annex and it has a small exchange and commissary that we found to be adequate for our needs. If you want to receive mail you have to pay for a mailbox at the exchange. It was a reasonable fee though. Most importantly, bring your bikes! We rode our bikes all over Key West. We have a fifth wheel and dually pick up. It was so nice to leave the truck on base and ride the bikes everywhere.

I have read the reviews and agree with most. noticed a lot of candy coating and I think i know why. Management for the past two years has gone down hill biased attitudes, tenants fear that if they complain they will be tossed out. I agree with the last review from Phanomil, however I will add some observations, CHICKENS have took over, ROOSTERS sometimes start crowing 3 or 4 am and don't stop all day. it started a little over two years ago with the feeding of one hen named Henrietta. The person feeding the hen {alledged} arranged somehow for a rooster to join up with the hen. She has been told by management to stop feeding the many chickens we have now and she still sneaks around and feeds the flock. The manager knows her very well and appears to do nothing about it. Feeding and cottling wild game is prohibited but still goes on. the chickens fecal is on the picnic table, on our rugs and roofs We have  young children here that are exposed to the fecal piles; environment unhealthy for all. THE ONLY THING GOOD ABOUT NASKW campground is the PRICE and LOCATION since about two and one half years ago. The other important observation is another health issue, they do not clean the bathrooms on weekends, holiday weekends. No bathroom maintenance on weekends, holiday weekends either. We have but one Handicap toilet and one handicap shower in dry camping. both have been broke through the weekend.

Very nice location for us snow birds. The reasons for not giving Sigsbee an overall 5 rating is due to the maintance of the campgrounds. The grass areas, except the sports area, needs to be mowed and the dirts roads needs to be fixed. There are some mud holes that are 6 to 8 inches deep, even in Hollywood and Pebble Beach area. With the park being full, the monthly income is around $150,000 a month. You would think they could afford to fix the roads. That's my opinion.

Important update for those with reservations (or plans) to Dry Camp at NASKW Campgrounds (Sigsbee and Trumbo Point), Key West FL, this winter (Oct 2021 - Apr 2022). Due to the significant uptick in Covid19 cases in Florida, management has reduced the availability of dry camping spaces for this winter season dramatically (only 25% of dry camping sites will be available for use). This necessitated cancelling a number of existing dry camping reservations that had already been made over the last few months. It's my understanding this reduction in dry camping availability was necessary to meet the social distancing requirements for the communal bath houses. It's also my understanding that Full Hook-Up (FHU) sites will not be affected and should have 100% availability. If you made reservations to dry camp at Sigsbee or Trumbo Point during the last few months you may want to call the NASKW campground office at (305) 293-4432/3 to reconfirm your reservation.

We have been coming here for many years now to escape the winters at home. We really love being here, and have made life long new friends in the process. There is no other camp ground we have ever been to that almost everyone is like family. Sadly though, since Irma last year, and MWR initiating the reservation system, things are rapidly changing. The Gateway reservation system has been a real mess, and many people that tried to get reservations this year were told that nothing was available and the camp was full. Well that was never true because the camp never totally filled, and though it came close in February for only a couple of weeks, they had spaces available all winter, yet many were turned away because Gateway reported the camp being full. Also we had many new 1st time NASKW campers here that were told by Gateway they would be able to go right into hook up sites when they arrived. This was another not true story. They were shocked when they arrived and had to spend three weeks or longer in dry camp working their way up the rotation list to be able to get their 14 day limit on full hook up sites. Those of us who come every year understand the rotation policy, but the new folks in most cases did not come prepared to be able to make it for weeks in dry camp. Many had no generators or the type of items that make living in a dry camp possible. The rumors are running rampant about the future of this camp. We are now hearing that for the next winter season the rates are going to take a huge jump, and that rotations are not going to happen any more. This may sound good to some, but if you think about it, and someone arrives in December and gets a site with no rotations, he will have it all season. With the limited number of full hook up sites it will keep hundreds of others out of luck. I don't pretend to have all the answers, but I just want folks that are considering Sigsbee for the winter of 2019 season to check things out before you come down. There is a very good chance that it will not be as it has been in the past. The past increases have been small at a dollar or two a day more than previous years. Now the powers to be are talking about huge increases of possibly double what the current rates are per day. And if the rumor is true about the rotations being ended, that will mean that the normal 200 plus rigs they have in dry camp working their way up the rotation list will have to stay in dry camp all winter, and believe me that can get pretty uncomfortable for sleeping at night. This is just a wake up call for everyone to watch for, as I said at the start, we do love it here. It is just that when you know you will get 2 weeks of hook ups every few weeks or so it makes it easier to take. Four or five months of dry camp is a totally different story. Anyway be sure to check things out thouroughly before coming down thinking things are as usual.
