We dropped the kids off at camp in San Diego and my wife and I towed the Toy Hauler to Fairways RV Resort. Whenever the word "Resort" is in the title, you will pay more, $30 a night. Yes, it is expensive than most but you get what you pay for. The grounds are beautiful and well manicured. The spaces are wide with nice grass between sites. In addition, they have coffee and doughnuts at the office in the morning and a free laundry mat. We brought our two doberman's and there was places to run the dogs at night. The rules say that there is a maximum of two dogs per site and they must be on a leash at all times. At the camp site there is full hook ups with cable TV. The pad is relatively level with plenty of extra parking. Also at the camp site is a fixed charcoal BBQ. We saw the new part of Fairways almost completed. It is planned to be completed in August. It is as nice or nicer than the old part. Also the base theater is being remodeled as well and should be open by now. They offer free WiFi, however I could never get it to connect. There is no fire ring at the site, nevertheless we brought our own. Overall we enjoyed our time at Fairways and would go back again. I wished more military installations were as nice as Fairways. We enjoy camping at military installation as they are safe, other campers are friendly and there is no riffraff. Fly your American flag and enjoy your benefits.

The amenities offset the high daily rate. Free WiFi, Laundry, morning Coffee and paper and general beauty make for a great experience. The expansion of the park to double its capacity is in litigation and not scheduled to open in the near future, but we had no problem making a weekday reservation.

Great facility! Well maintained. Free WIFI, Cable and full hookups. The only detraction was it's location. You definitely need a TOAD to get around after setting up. Loved the free coffee and newspaper in the morning.

We called to make reservations on Tuesday for a weekend stay and I was happy spaces were available. I was surprised when I arrived and found the park only about half full with a lot of choices, from along the fairways to an entire empty row. The facility is well maintained, the staff are curious and friendly and our stay there was relaxing and enjoyable. The weather was mostly overcast which didn't matter to use because it moderated the temp and the sun still poked through occasionally. The chain-link fence is still surrounding the newly constructed, but still unavailable, spaces they've built. As mentioned in previous reviews the contractor filed bankruptcy and left most of the electrical and landscaping undone. The new spaces appear to be shorter than the old ones and I'm not sure that a Class A 34' or longer will fit. They are wider such that one could almost put two RV's side by side but by the time the aluminum picnic tables, which are sitting un-assembled inside the fence, are put in place half of that wide pad will be likely be patio. Hopefully they will find funding and a contractor to finish the job soon. But we did wonder why the local Construction Battalions don't step up and provide the labor to use as training and finish the job. Overall, we had a great weekend at Fairways. Note: the URL listed above doesn't take one anywhere useful. The guy I spoke with when making the reservation said to use this one to make online reservations: http://get.dodlodging.net/propertys/Fairways-RV-Resort-(Port-Hueneme)

This is a well-maintained, well-laid out campground. The interior roads and sites are paved. All sites are pull-thru. There is good spacing between sites. Free laundry is provided, as is a free daily, local newspaper. The staff is friendly and helpful. Base facilities, i.e., commissary, exchange, theater, car wash, etc are close. The new famcamp extension is on an indefinite hold: the contractor went bankrupt, and a replacement has to be found. During our stay, the current campground was only 1/4 full.

We just camped here for 5 days visiting family in the area. Fairways is one of our favorite military RV parks and it did not disappoint. There were very few campers in this time, probably because the registration fee has been raised to $30 a day. I do not believe it was that much last time we were here. That is more than we have paid at ANY military installation. The grass was perfect, not unwatered like another review mentioned. It is thick and healthy, though your car and rig will get wet when the automatic sprinklers come on during the night. The new construction of additional spaces looks close to being finished. There are 18 sites which are not yet sodded but the rest of the grass is in. The bathhouse is finished on the outside but it looks like the electrical work is not complete. There are wires lying about and one extension cord running from one of the current RV sites to the new bathroom. They have set aside room for two fenced in doggie parks but it does not look like they will put in grass as the gates are not wide enough for their riding mower to enter. I'm hoping that is incorrect, it is much easier to get a dog to do their business on grass instead of gravel. Rethink this please. We applied for and received permanent stickers to make entry to the base much easier next time we visit. Be forewarned, you will have to get a base pass before you will be allowed to enter the base. We have had no problems at Air Force bases by just showing our ID cards and being passed through. Not here. You must show ID cards for everyone in the car, insurance card and registration card to even be issued a temporary pass. You might as well go ahead and get a permanent sticker. Ours is now good until 2015. When the construction is finished, this will be one of the nicest RV facilities in the entire military. We will definitely stay here again and again as the civilian parks in the area are outlandishly expensive.

We drove through to check it out and are glad we had reservations for a private rv park. Since our granddaughter lives with us our need for family type parks is essential. This park has absolutely nothing for families with young children. The grass appeared to need water. They have a temporary fence around the new area, which appeared to be finished. We did not get out to check the facilities. If you're need is to just park your rv & sightsee then this would be ok. I wouldn't want to have to spend by entire vacation here unless they add a playground area. Was easy to get on base (we have a base sticker & id's for everyone). Also, station on left right after entry was easy to get into with our rig (55 ft). They do have diesel - look for pump as diesel was not at every pump.

J.B. left this review using the Directory software: - Have stayed at nearly 20 different military RV parks and so far, this is THE BEST! Great amenities, friendly staff, beautiful location, new laundry and bath facilities - and they are adding more spaces! Some strategic netting to protect RVs from golf balls. Unused perimeter road (just inside base fencing) was great for walking, jogging, bike riding, etc. Great stay except WiFi was not always reliable and food on base is fair, not excellent. We will definitely be back!!

T.H. left this review using the Directory software: This is a beautiful, well maintained park. We stayed for 9 days and wished we could have stayed longer. The sites are roomy with nice grassy areas between each site. The Wifi reception in the campground (in the west area anyway) was a little iffy, but a USB Wifi plug-in with an external antenna fixed that (everyone has one of those, right?). Note that although the fees have gone up to $30, they have tried to compensate a little by making the laundry and newspapers free. I'll admit that the lack of a monthly rate is a little off-putting, but given the state of the Federal budget these days, I'll swallow hard and pay for the services I get.

We have stayed here several times and wanted to add a few updates. Loc: A short trip to Channel Island Visitor Ctr and close to Hwy. Clean/Hosp: Great as always. Amn/Fac: As already noted, being expanded in size, we think it will still get filled fairly well. Base has everything and recommend utilizing the little bar/grill at the golf course. Value: Even at the price, to be coastal, this is still a good value. Similar State Parks, some without hookups are $50 and more a night.

We stayed Mother's Day weekend and they had a great buffet at the historic Bard House located on base..very good. A must go-to is the Channel Islands Farmers Market on Sunday. Fresh fruits and veggies from the locals. Also fresh fish on the dock. The following weekend was the California Strawberry Festival in Oxnard with a large number of vendors and entertainment. The area has lots to see and do. We liked Ventura, a nice, layed-back town. The FamCamp has gone through renovation and has the best bathhouse I've seen. Very large and very clean. The sites are pull-thru and are large enough to park your towed out of the road. Large community room with big screen tv and computer terminals. WiFi worked well on my site. I recommend this FamCamp and will go back again, when in the area.

Stayed here for 3 years. Park is nice, and over time developed good relationship with hosts. Nothing bad to say about the park, other reviews are accurate. However, watch your wallet. Price to increase to 900 dollars a month for active, 1050 for civilian. WOW!!! That's 30 a night, 35 civ. This in itself is highway robbery. A shame to charge this much for what is supposed to be a military benefit. Anyway, we kiss this place and MuGu goodbye in a few days. Good luck expanding this park 45 more slots when they don't fill it now, at 23 a night. Hopefully, someone will wake up when they start losing money.

Great park wide deep sites. Clean rest rooms. Hosts are very nice and helpful. Only problem was the rate increase to 30-35 dollars. Construction has started to double the size of the park. I have visited twice and will return.

Great park and facilities. However, do not go to Victoria Gate. Go to the main gate on Ventura and get your registration first even after 5 p.m. The base commander has set the security level to such that you need a pass. Take your usual stuff, ID, license, proof of insurance. ID card alone won't do it though you show it anyway besides pass.

R.R. left this review using the Directory software: Paul, the manager, said that by this time next year there will be 45 additional sites as well as an overflow area. Funds have been appropriated, nearly $3 million. This is a great park with wonderful facilities that will only get better. Its very neat and well maintained. Full service base with everything you need.

This is one of the nicer military RV parks we have stayed in. Check-in at the office (at the front of the park) was painless and parking into one of the wide 40 foot sites was easy. All of the hook ups are where they should be and there is a picnic table and b-b-q grill provided. The park is next to the base golf course and a short walk to the club house and a gym. Naps Grill in the All Hands Club has good b-b-q. Base gas station has diesel and propane. Large NEX and Commissary. Close to tourists spots; President Ronald Reagan’s Library, Channel Island National Park and Santa Barbara.

This was our 2nd and 3rd time staying here and we will return again. There are many long term RV'ers staying here, but during both visits, once they had reached the 30 day mark, they were requiring them to leave for a week (VERY unusual for many military parks, but great to see them enforce the rules vice ignore them!). Talked to many of the people staying and everyone was really happy about their stay.

We really enjoyed our stay at this park, very clean and modern. Location: a little off of Hwy 101, but near Channel Island shops and marina area. Clean/Hosp: Kept quite clean, lounge/laundry/rest rooms plus grounds nice. Very friendly staff. Amen/Fac: All concrete pads, mostly level, full base facilities all close to park, seabee museum. A nice area, we will return.

We agree with many of the reviewers that this is an exceptionally nice park. It is on the smaller side but there is plenty of space between sites. If you like to golf, you can't beat the location, although, if you are looking for a campground on the water, this isn't it. Beach access is close by, however. It is sparse with trees at the actual campground, if you like green there is a nice patch of grass at each site and lots of trees to look at on the golf course side. The campground requires a fair amount of "in city" driving to get to (it is in CA, after all), but the effort is well worth it. Once you arrive, you no longer have to use the Victoria gate as there is now access via the front gate. The BX and commissary are great and, since this is a small base, other services are close by. There is even a place to wash your rv upon arrival/departure at the base car wash on the south side of the main road. There are laundry facilities here which I do not believe is listed. Be prepared for much cooler temperatures here as compared to just a few miles inland, even during the summer. We woke up several mornings in August where there was a definite chill in the air in the am when temperatures later soared to the mid-90's further inland during the day. This is due to the ever present ocean breezes. A very nice stay for us. Highly recommended.
