We made a reservation, which is recommended. The directions as provided are good but if you have your Google Earth with the voice prompts it will help. Coming off the bridge leads you into residential areas with many turns and roundabouts. We had a space which backed to the Navy residences rather than the water. Acceptable since we were gone most of the time touring San Diego. Kids playing in the back yards and dogs barking can be a...

We stayed one night each on the way to and from San Diego. Three miles south on South Highway 85. Easy to find the FamCamp. The gate guard provides directions to the campground. If you cannot find the office, ask a resident. They will point to it. The nightly rate is $10 for full hookups. Some of the spaces require a tool to turn on the water. Be sure to ask. They have a reverse osmosis system because of...

OK for one night. Rather spartan, bare bones in appearance and aesthetics. Range 14 is near the sport shooting facility and is off base. No host or management presence at the site. You must go to Outdoor Rec to register. To get there we got telephonic directions which were complicated by construction. We also got verbal directions to Range 14 once we got to Outdoor Rec. The sites are grassy/sandy/dirt but because of visible...

This FamCamp was a pleasant surprise. Level concrete pads with FHU. Sewer connection was a bit odd; middle of the rear end of the concrete parking pad. There was a second sewer on the side which we used. We made our reservation on line and it worked well. We extended one day by calling Chris at the number given. Chris had a packet of information waiting for us at Security, just after passing through...

There are three gates North, Main, and Commercial; north to south. The North gate was not open on the weekend but we came in that gate on Friday with our 25' motorhome. I would not see a problem with a larger one. On Saturday, when we left base and reentered through the Main Gate, Base police had me back up from the left entry point (the only one of the three open when we pulled up) and...

We did not know that this FamCam existed until we went to the visitor center in Fort Walton Beach. A volunteer who was ex military guided us expertly. Luckily a vacancy was available and we loved it. We paid $20 for the night. No commissary etc, but that's OK. A diamond in the rough for us, but a staple for anyone who is local.

We stopped by Keesler RV FamCamp after driving around for half an hour. We missed a turn and went on base. Big Mistake. The FamCamp is not on base and hard to find. We entered the FamCamp and found the office closed. The sign said to see the Camp Host but no site was listed. We drove around the campground and a woman came out of one of the bathrooms and unlocked the office. ...

We stayed at Shields FamCamp Mar 2/3 after stopping by nearby Keesler AFB. Keesler has no facilities, is off base, and hard to find. Shields is easy to locate, has nice, wide cement pads, nice laundry. We were able to bike to the BX/Commissary facility and use the beauty salon, who accommodated us by bringing in a hairdresser a half hour before opening. We did not use the fitness center which is also nearby. We rode...

Plusses: Nice to see a nearby fitness center. Well done bathrooms, well maintained. Express and gas station (quick mart a few hundred feet nearby). Lots of space between sites. Big Laundry. Thanks for acknowledging the Golden Access card holders. Minuses: Lots of homesteaders (6 months one told us). Daily RVers should be apart from the "family homesteaders".

The amenities offset the high daily rate. Free WiFi, Laundry, morning Coffee and paper and general beauty make for a great experience. The expansion of the park to double its capacity is in litigation and not scheduled to open in the near future, but we had no problem making a weekday reservation.

This new FamCamp will only improve over time. It has only been open for a few weeks so the facility and the administration are in their infancy. Directions. The base has no markings showing the entrance. Stay in the left-hand lane when crossing Tower. There are two left-hand turn lanes going into the base. Do not follow the commercial trucks into the base. Stay left and just show your ID cards Continue with the...

Directions: Use exit 120 and take the ramp to North Fort Lewis. Go thru the gate, ID required, and a right at the first light. Bear right after 100 yards on to NCO Beach road. Campground on the left after about a quarter mile. We stayed three nights in space 202. WiFi is not available campground-wide. If you need it, make sure you reserve a site in the "commons". Staff is helpful....
