This is primarily a short-stay, boating and fishing facility for Shaw AFB. (Crappie fishing was great while we were there.) However, it is certainly suitable for snow birds who want to stay near a lake in a moderate winter climate. It can drop below freezing in winter, so be prepared to drip the water when the weather report so predicts. And Curt and his staff are energetic and highly motivated to make it a great experience for everyone, regardless....

A tiny RV park on the Marine Recruit Depot that is utilized primarily for families of graduating recruits. It is a no-host camp, so if you are into social life with fellow campers this is not for you. But we loved it. You can see recruits in maneuvers and watch a graduation on Fridays. BX and Commissary are fine, and Port Royal and Beaufort have everything else you need, including fine restaurants. The remoteness is...

Close enough to Jacksonville, but not too close. Sites are large with fireplaces. Nice lake for canoeing and bird watching. Site hosts are great, with special kudos to Charlie and Betty. Wireless recently upgraded, and generally excellent connection. They have won top Eastern CG for 3 years running, with good reason.

This CG is huge! Must be one of the biggest in the MWR system. Dry camp is large, and they have both partial and full hookups. We got into PHU on arrival, but when we left after 14 days, in late Jan 2011, the dry camp was starting to fill up. Bath house and laundry is appropriately large, spartan, but kept clean. My wife said the washers were not maintained well. MacDill is not a large base, but...

Relatively small CG, but great location for the Atlantic coast and the Space coast. Dry camp area is easy to access, and close to the dump station. Hookup sites are a bit tight, especially some with trees on the corner. Bathhouse is old, but clean and functional. Camp Host Jim is excellent, and takes the job seriously. FamCamp staffer Ken is great. Dining hall is superb, as others have reported.

Although the sites are small, with some care they can be negotiated. Some of the office staff act as though they would rather be somewhere else, but if you are nice you can find out what you need. Facilities are spotless. There are nice walking trails and great restaurants in Pensacola. Check Joe Patti's for fresh seafood for cooking.

Sites are a bit small and there are signs and trees than can make navigating some of the sites difficult. BX/Commissary are about a 10 minute drive. Right across the street from the Naval Aviation Museum. Highly recommend it. Bath and laundry facilities are outstanding.

This was our second visit to Onslow Beach. The biggest asset of this CG is the beach. You really cannot ask for a better, bigger, cleaner beach experience. During the high season there are actually lifeguards posted at various locations. The sites themselves are Spartan. If you are looking for a beautiful site to camp, this is not it. The camp host friendly and helpful. We did not use the bathhouse because it smelled. That seems...
