Monkey – Yes the Ellsworth FamCamp is open, and yes they are FULL at the moment – due primarily to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. We are not there now, but we were the camp hosts there for several years. We decided after last year not to return due to management issues. Your telephone experience is just one indication of management failures at Ellsworth. Having said that, if you are in the area and would like to stop at EAFB, in addition to the 37 FHU sites, they do have twelve powered (30 A) sites for overflow and another twelve dry (no hook-up) sites. Unless things have changed, overflow gets first choice for FHU sites as they open. It’s a very nice FamCamp, and the area (Rapid City/Black Hills) is not to be missed!
Hope this helps you,
John

Yeah, we just drove thru Badlands, and stopped here. We took a couple nights in overflow (a parking lot with power) and will shop and do laundry and head out. Looks like a nice CG, but nearly full. WE could have had a FHU for $20, but took the EHU overflow for $10 ...

When the MCG didn't answer enough times, I called MWR, and they had the guy call me back. He gave me some song and dance about moving trailers (Three days??) and was not in the office when we arrived either.

But when we drove up, he came out and took care -- not a big deal, but I can see why no one answers, he's at his trailer instead. No way to leave message, always says "call back" ... but no one answers. At least make a way to leave a message - makes no sense.

Not trying to beat a dead horse here, Monkey, but the numerous management issues at EAFB are hurting an otherwise very nice campground! Too bad, because due to its proximity to the Rapid City/Black Hills folks will continue to use the FamCamp and the management issues will continue to fester. :(

The last couple of reviews for Ellsworth FamCamp gave "Amy" (temporary manager?) good comments. Maybe she'll be the new fulltime manager????

We're here two days - was nearly full Sunday, half empty today. We're leaving tomorrow for the Black Hills and Custer, but won't come back here to stay unless we can't get a CG up there. It's not far, but we'd rather stay closer.

So, not sure of management, but the place is pretty clean, although one washer is 'broken' ... I don't know what the management issues are, so can't comment. The guy that greeted us came over when we drove up, but was at this trailer, not in the office.

We're in the overflow (half price) looks like a parking lot with 12 power pedestals, no water or sewer - but the loud-speakers are correctly named - Revile and the SSB will blast you out of your camper. Don't know if you can hear it at the main CG, which is quite a distance away.

One thing, they don't ever answer the phone - and you can't leave a message, it always says "Call us back" but we did that several times - never an answer.

The new part looks great, nice pads, full service, and a medium commissary and BX, and gas station. Looks like it could become a 'full most of the time' MCG if they operate it effectively, at least three seasons anyway. Snow probably knock everyone out during winter.
