Rambling Observations

The problem will always be the abuse of the MCG system. If a CO feels the DOD are eligible, and a DoD wants to use a site for vacation when a site is empty, then that helps support the upkeep and overhead -- so it's a benefit.

But, in many cases, the sites are not available because DOD over-stays, same as the "good ole boy" network at MacDill. IF the rule states "two months" then out for a specific time, like Kings Bay does -- then that should be it for everyone. However, I see here at Kings Bay empty sites every day at this point in time (today) -- so, filling it with a DOD does increase revenue. But last week it was full, so I'm sure some people (possibly) could have been turned away -- I have no way to know that.

But if a few sites are occasionally left empty so that some traveling AD or Retired can get a site without a reservation for a few days when they want it ... then that's the way is should be run.

As you can see by my status, I'm a "newbie" so forgive me, but here goes; What is ICE? How can it help us in the complaint dept? :-

Don't worry about the "newbie" designation, we were all newbies at one time.

ICE stands for "Interactive Customer Evaluation". This is a DoD ran program where military installations can VOLUNTARILY participate in. This includes MWR, and military campgrounds. Customers can fill out an evaluation which goes to DoD. The evaluation is then forwarded down the channels to the installations ICE Manager (who usually works for installation commander). Local policies dictate how the evaluations are handled, but eventually a responsible manager/person is supposed to receive them and take necessary action. If requested, this also means getting a reply.

For full information, you can view the DoD ICE web site. Also search these forums for more discussions on ICE.

On this website, IF a military recreation facility participates ion the ICE program, there's an ICE web link included in the campground's information page. This ICE link takes you directly to the online ICE form for that facility.

If the famcamp can't be found on ICE, go to the Famcamp Internet site, they usually have a place for comments, and example here is Kings Bay comment page . qol.persnet.navy.mil/commentpage I feel if we can comment on the problems we discuss here to the "horses mouth", so to speak, maybe if they get enough comments, they will make the changes, we complain about. I know I was told they had so many complaints at Ft Meade they made changes. They are full of homesteaders, but they make them move every 2 weeks, and if someone wants a space, and the park is full, the homesteader goes to the parking lot. I would prefer they would not allow homesteaders at all, but at least they try to discourage it, by not letting them junk up one space and making it there's. Don't like what you see or experience, start typing, and speaking out to the right people.

Thanks gang, I'll definately participate in the program.

Chief's Wife, we'll be at Kings Bay 25 Dec-4 Jan, maybe we'll run into you. We'll be in site B-7. Just look for a family of four with a pickup loaded like the Beverly Hillbillies. ;D We'll also have a long time flight school buddy and his family beside us. He'll say they are the refined ones, as they are GA Bulldog fans. I think that is an oxymoron.

;D Hi,
Tried to send you a personal message, but came back with an error. Here it is if you didn't get it:
Hi,
We will be at Kings Bay, Dec 19 to the 27th. Maybe we can say, hi up close. We don't know our site number, but we will be in a Brown 2003 Mountain Air, with a silver Saturn tow. Most people remember us by our dog, Susie. She is mixed black and silver, with an attitude. There will be a very handsome man walking. ( I know, my personal opinion) ::)

This message is for anyone else that will be at Kings Bay and wants to say hi. Monkey, I hope you got your message too.
