Motorcycle/Tent camping

I'm new to Miltary Campgrounds but am retired and have a motorcycle. I plan on doing some touring next season and wander if it's going to be a problem staying at bases. I expect the helmet, long shirt, goggles and other requirements neccessary when I was AD. Do many campgrounds prohibit motorcycles? I heard some civilian ones do. Any comments or assistance would be appreciated.

yes, all of the stuff you had to do while on active duty goes here also. It would be best if you register and have the sticker on your bike from any military base. That is the only thing that would be of benifit to you. Everything else on this site and in the military campground book apply the same to you as for any other camper. :)

I'm retired, and have had my bike on several bases and in MCG camping -- never had a problem but always need a sticker on the bike and the MC certification on license. You do need long sleeves, boots, and all the typical safety gear ... same as active. But the retired and in the military campgrounds is same as active far as a bike goes.

Never seen street legal motorcycles prohibited from a military campground. There's some very efficient camping trailers available for motorcycles.

John ? If you have one of those tent/trailer combinations, you should have no problem, and we?ve seen many at numerous FamCamps. While we have seen tenters at many FamCamps (many have separate tent areas), I do not believe that tents, by themselves, are allowed at some FamCamps. I just asked the camp host here at Laughlin AFB, where we are currently staying. He said that this campground, for example is not set up for tents ? no shower facilities, but that he would probably not turn the individual(s) away, depending on occupancy and how long the individual wished to remain. He did suggest that a tenter should most certainly always call ahead to verify whether or not tents are allowed. Good luck, and enjoy your travels!
