If you're ever in the northwest corner of Nevada and need a relaxing place to stay, try the Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge's Virgin Valley Campground. It's located off Highway 140 about 90 miles south of Lakeview, OR and about 25 miles west of Denio Junction, NV. It's a 2 mile drive on a dirt road from 140 to the campground.
We've been going to Virgin Valley for about 20 years to dig at the opal mines there. The campground is free. It's a primitive campground. Ensure you have water in your tanks (there is a water source if needed). There are no dumps, so make sure you're not full when you get there. Pit-style toilets are available. Generators are allowed between certain hours.
There is a nice warm spring at the campground. It's a great place to soak and relax after a long day of driving or digging opals. There is a shower house near the warm spring. Water is provided from the same well supplying the warm spring. A campground host is on-site.
All in all, this is a nice, relaxing spot. It is out in the boonies and may not appeal to all.
