We stayed one night on our way to San Antonio. The full hookup sites (non reservation) were full and seemed to be long term folks. The reservation sites (water and electric only) were mostly full by evening. For one night and $15, it was fine. The only drawback is there is no shade. In the summer it would be miserable! Some of the power pedestals were missing covers, including the site we had. I told the lady in the checkin office and she was aware of it, but kind of a ho hum attitude about it. With witer coming I would think it could be a problem if not repaired.

We were able to get a pull through with shade! The facility is old, but functional. The water connection is in a hole and the handle is broken, so had to use pliers to turn it on. The washers & dryers (2 each) are old, but worked fine. The 2 young people in the office are very friendly, but new.

Hadn't stayed here since the new sites were added. Glad they were and some are reservable - with a winter 175 day length of stay limit I don't think many first come first serve sites full hook-up or not ever open. They all stayed full during our stay. I can understand why sewer wasn't put in with the new ones - major permitting issues near the lake I'm sure and then there's the work required. But, why not put in a wifi extender????. Bath house / laundry old but clean. Good Verizon, great staff.

The more I think about it the more absurd our experience here becomes. We arrived yesterday afternoon, reservation email from 9 days ago in hand, only to be told that there were no sites available. Mind you the reserved sites are water and electric only while the first come first served sites are FHU. 9 of the 20 FHU spaces show no signs of life. No towing vehicles, no people. They're merely being stored. One has a freezer outside the rig! So we're in a makeshift unlevel site hoping that someone will leave the "reserved" area this morning. It's a beautiful location with a very gracious staff but, until the homesteaders get uprooted and the reservation "system" gets fixed, don't waste your time. ---- Oct. 13th, 2019 Update: Full disclosure. We ended up in a first come first serve FHU site that came open this morning. We'll probably be here for at least a week. 5 on cleanliness/hospitality is for Dustin and Destiny. Excellent customer service. They do the best they can given the constraints of the processes they find themselves dealing with.

All I can say is wow...this is the worst military campsite I have experienced. How do you not take reservations for full hook ups...and only take reservations for partial, and then stick people a 1/4 mile away from actual restrooms! I cannot believe that these extensions are not full hook up, and can't believe the layout here. By far the worst layout I have seen traveling through the US and staying at 13 other military campsites. So now I stay here two nights collecting waste, and then have to dump by all the other campers on the other side of this mess!!! Don't care that there's a lake...I would rather have the security of knowing that I'm going to have a full hook up upon arrival. This is the last time I'll stay here. I should have reserved the KOA or other place...but now I'm out of luck. Give the guy a promotion that runs this place!!!

Great place for a pull through with 50 amp electric hook up. No one on duty to process you in. Seemed as though there were squatters. Rules Need to be enforced on this situation.

Read some harsh reviews on this place; we almost passed it by. Reservations were easy, we had a site with water/electric, it was a pull thru on gravel with plenty of maneuvering room. Power worked fine, the grass was mowed and the dumpsters were emptied. Maybe they got the message because, though it was nothing special, it was an adequate site. We didn’t use the showers/restrooms but the dump station was accessible and easy to use. We would stop by again if in the area.

Our site was water/electric only at $15/night which was a good value as we needed somewhere to spend the night. Directions on this site and Google Maps got us to the campground with no problem. Once there, we were greeted by the campground host (after hours check-in). He was very friendly and oriented us to our campsite. Beyond that, this campground is in need of repair. The camping spot we were in was mostly gravel and the grass between the sites was very high. Recreational areas near the water are in need of repair. There was one kid's playground closed down with overgrown weeds. A second playground was available. There was no dog park available; although we were told one was there but damaged and hasn't been replaced. The sites for long-term stays are turned around all different directions. Beyond the gate, there were no sidewalks or amenities besides a gas station close by. This was probably the most dilapidated FamCamp we've experienced so far in our travels.

Very disappointing, but typical of Air Force FamCamps we have been to. The facilities here are in need of maintenance. We stayed in the pull through area with water and power only. You can make reservations for this area. Roads and sites in this area are paved. The FHU area is mostly dirt and gravel roads. FHU sites do have a cement pad for your RV. On our fist site the voltage on one leg of the 50 amp service only had 7 volts. Moved to a second site it had an open ground. Moved to a third site to get good power. Check you power before hooking up to electrical here. Laundry room only had one working washer. $1 to wash and $1 to dry. Lots of dog poo around the Laundry Room. Pool was open and lots of people using it. There is a marina here. I don't have a boat, but the marina looks good. Previous reviews mention the amount of 'seasonals' living here. Just a rough guess is that near 50 percent are seasonals. Overall appearance of FHU area needs some cleanup.

We arrived at Goodfellow Rec Camp on a Wednesday afternoon for a two-night stay. We had made telephonic reservations 45 days out. However, the Office is closed on Wednesday, so when we arrived the Camp Host directed us to a couple 50A FHU back-in sites from which we could select. We parked and connected. Sites were concrete, however they had not been swept or edged in some time. Trees had not been trimmed, grass mowing, weed-eating, edging and cleanliness through-out the park was not a priority. An oddity was the enormous cast steel ground box with lid that covered the water hook-up. It had to be manipulated to access the water hydrant. No idea why that was there, it was so hot from the sun, when we arrived that you couldn't lift it without gloves. Trash cans had overflown near the restrooms. Camp host was very friendly and offered his assistance several times. I visited the Office the next morning to pay, they were not welcoming nor informative. Just took my payment. No welcome, do you have any questions, here is what we offer, etc. This park is in an excellent location, and with some work could be an outstanding park, however, currently it is not.

A bit disappointing to say the least! All available pull-thrus are filled by long term residents. You'd think that the "homesteaders" would be put in the back-ins since they aren't going anywhere any time soon! What a shame to those that don't want to drop a toad just to have full hookups when needed. When you've been on the road 4+ hours you'd just like to pull in and unwind. It was more work than it should have been to get to the dump station with a large rig, so, we dropped the toad and took a back in for the night to have full hook-up. We needed to dump! We were facing the lake and the view should have been beautiful except for the trash! Walking our small dog was unnerving when you have all these others with unleashed dogs because they are too lazy to walk their dogs. The girls next to us had a dog that would lunge at us every time we came to/from our rig! And the fecal smell is awful. Guess people don't think they need to pick up after their dogs! Women's bathhouse - DISGUSTING! Toothpaste and spit in the sink, one shower had 2 large clumps of hair and the other one a dirty diaper and kids skivvies on the floor. And they smelled telling me they had been there for more than a day! Wish I had taken pictures to share!! Stick to the interstates and bases not off the beaten path. We were so disappointed we did not stay longer than one night. Would have been nice to see the base, but, yuck!!!

We stayed here out in the partial hookups site ( W/E dump station access) because there was nothing available in the FHU sites. We didn’t really mind because the FHU site was crowded and full of long term renters it appeared and the partial lots were much larger. I thought it was very odd that the dump station was located on a corner in the middle of the crowded FHU site though, which makes it difficult to get to with larger RVs. We enjoyed the location, which is right on the lake and very pretty. My only big issue was that people staying out in the partial hookup lot, who also appeared to be permanent residents, just let their dogs wander all over the lot off leash and didn’t clean up after them. It made walking our dogs a little difficult, not knowing when a random dog would come running at us. I’m not a big fan of allowing full time residents at the rec camps, they tend to ignore the rules. Overall it was a decent stay but I wouldn’t stay again bc of the dump station location and the off leash dogs.

We stayed here as a quick stop over. There was nothing available in FHU sites (which seemed to be a lot of long term people) so we grabbed a site in overflow. We had W/E hookups and access to dump station. That was weird in itself.... *Dump station is on the corner / end of one of the FHU rows. Being a 40' 5th wheel it was more than awkward fitting there to dump, but we managed. We actually preferred the overflow sites to the FHU as the area was less crowded and the sites were roomier. The lake looked beautiful. I don't know if we'd stay here again, but this was also a quick stop. (BTW...we never did find the laundry room.)

We'd planned a 3 day stay but left after one night. The full service sites are full of long time stays. The layout there is kind of odd with half circle pull thrus. The part along the water is ok. We got partial hookup in a large gravel parking lot. The wind came up overnight and even with the slides put in the noise and rocking was uncomfortable. I know that's not management's fault but the place just didn't appeal to us.

This FamCamp is not on base so do not follow GPS to the AFB. In fact its the opposite direction but easy to get to. Upon arrival we were assigned overflow. This was ok with us as it had 50 amps and water. The next day while walking in the park we found a couple leaving so we pulled our slides in and waited for them to leave and we moved in to a FHU site. This FamCamp is very busy on weekends and especially holidays. The wifi didn't work very good until everyone left then it was satisfactory. The staff was very helpful with information.  If you have a fairly large unit I would not recommend using the back-in site as it is very tight. A class "C" or "A" can make ok. There is no commissary of exchange at this location. The pull-thru sites are large and will accommodate most units but watch out for overhanging branches, although most of them have been pruned. We will return for another stay next year.

I had scheduled 2 one night stays. First night was 6-9-15 and second night was to be 6-13-15. I knew that I was scheduled for overflow sites for both nights in advance. I had talked to the office folks three times about arriving on a Tuesday, when we arrived (1500) and no one was in the office to help. I finally found a maintenance person who told me the office was closed both Tuesday and Wednesday. I paid him the $15.00 and when to my overflow site. The overflow area is no better than a parking lot with electric and water. Looking at the other sites, I felt they were poor at best. The photos on the web site are way out of date. Looks like they were taken in 2007/2008 and do not show what the campground looks like today. I would never have booked the location if the photos were up to date. (Editors note - send me new photos and I'll post them). I found a KOA campground just down the road and booked them for the second date and canceled the date back here on the 13th. We were very disappointed and would not book stays here again.

This was our first stay and found it to be very relaxing. We were in site 14 across from office and picnic area facing lake. W-Fi very good and staff very friendly and helpful. Suggest you do drive to Fort Chadbourne up 277. They are open Tues-Sat. Also in San Angelo, Fort Concho near the historic district on Oakes. For last minute items, Stripes is across from campground and convenient for gas. All types of lake craft for rent.. kayaks, paddle boards and boats. The park was full, so glad we had reservations. We had to stay in overflow, as FHU sites were all taken. Sites long, wide, and hard surface. They do not contact you when a FHU site becomes available. We stayed in overflow the whole week. But overflow sites have 50 amp, and the cost is $15 a day (Larry - your page needs to be updated). The base is about 10 miles away, and we only went there once. Good shopping and eating in San Angelo. My MIFI worked well (4G). Would stay again.
