Westport Lighthouse Campground and RV Park

It took 2 days to reach someone to get a reservation. Nobody returned my messages I left at all 3 phone numbers. One outgoing message had an announcement that was dated in January. I wasn't sure that number was valid but left a message anyway. We were originally scheduled to depart on the 18th but left on the 16th. Site 4 did not work for us, we were unable to open our slides, the site was too narrow. There was nobody else in that area of the campground so we took site #6 and tried again for 2 days to contact MWR. Once again, nobody returned my calls. I did finally get through, only to be told that someone would be coming in to site 6 on Monday the 16th (in a few hours). It was just easier to leave. Greg Barnes deserves a special shout-out for his outstanding grounds keeping. It is, I'm sure quite a chore to keep all that vegetation under control.

This is not a traditional RV campground. A closed lighthouse that requires a key to unlock a gate when you come and go is not traditional. However, we found our visit to be quite pleasant. If you have an RV, it better not be too big or you will be challenged getting in. Getting through the front gate is tight and manuevering to your site and getting level can be a challenge. We stayed at Site 6 in a 31 ft Class A. When you arrive in your RV, I recommend walking from the gate to your site and leave the RV on the side of the street, where there is a large shoulder before cresting the hill. You will be glad you performed a recon of both the route in and site. It's only 1/4 mile. Having said that, we stayed for three nights in the middle of the week, and had no one else near us. NO ONE! Can't say you will have the same, but to get an electric and water campsite and be totally alone is "not traditional", but nice. Considering the extra step to get the key and the challenges to setup at one's site, I recommend staying two or three nights, but definitely not worth the hassle for a one night visit. You can obviously tour the lighthouse if it's open and the Maritime Museum in town. There is also a great walk along the beach at the Lighthouse State Park with a paved biking or walking trail. In addition, within convenient walking distance, are the Lighthouse Bistro and Blackbeard Brewery, which we recommend. 

Power went out the first day and never came back on. Any commercial site would have fixed the problem or refunded your payment. In the future, on a short stay I will use the nearby Walmart parking lot. I recommend you do the same.

Comments from 2010 are still valid. Watch out for mosquitoes! Other than that, a great little campground. We were in site #2, directly under the lighthouse. Lots of shade, beautiful trees. Bathroom and showers could use some updating but I've been in much worse. Can get foggy and cold at night.

A Coast Guard famcamp with 5 sites under a lighthouse. The sites are laid out close together with 30 amp only. The lighthouse is open for tours with a great view from the top. The restroom facilities are dated with no laundry room. The campground is behind a locked gate to the lighthouse without a camp host. The location is good for day tripping and local maritime history buffs. Will stay here again if in the area.

Having come from Cliffside (NAS Whidbey) earlier this week, this place probably seems worse than it is, but there isn't much here...I was in Tent Site 8 - couldn't find a level area for my tent. Other than that, it was quiet...when I got to the lighthouse originally, I wasn't sure that I was in the right place because despite the great directions, there are no signs. The lighthouse volunteer tried to chase me off - "no private cars allowed"...this is an okay place if you are in the area and need a place to stay.
