Seabreeze at Seal Beach, CA had their grand opening on June 23, 2005. While staying in the area, we stopped by to visit in February 2007. There had been some recent confusion on directions to the RV Park and which gate to use. We encountered some of this confusion when we arrived. Between the security and RV Park management, we got the correct directions posted now. Upon arrival, this is one of those RV Parks that make you go “wow” when you arrive.
Although word is slowly getting spread about this wonderful new park, it was only 50% occupied during our visit. I’m sure it won’t be long that you won’t be able to arrive and get a site without a reservation. Reservations are accepted and recommended, although the park has never been full (yet). The entire park is modern and new. There are 86 FHU sites that include water, 30 and 50amp electric, sewer, and cable TV. The sites are HUGE, with concrete pads and patios with BBQ’s, grass between the sites, and paved streets. While there are trees scattered about, they’re all young and don’t provide any shade.
This is a full featured RV Park, with plenty of amenities. In addition to the provided cable TV, there’s a very clean shower and bath house, a large modern laundry room (with FREE laundry), a picnic pavilion and BBQ, and even a RV wash rack. There’s an exercise track that surrounds the RV Park. The check-in office has some snacks for sale and there’s a computer and printer for guests use (15 minute time limit). Wifi Internet is also available throughout the park, but is a little pricey at $4/hr, $10/day, or $55/month. About the only amenity lacking is a recreation room/lounge. The base also has a wide variety of recreation opportunities, but only a small exchange and no commissary. There is a golf course with a new clubhouse. The beach, stores, and a wide variety of dining choices are very close to the base.
The rate structure can be a little confusing. There’s 3 rates posted, with the lowest rate for military, the mid-range rate for DoD guests, and the highest rate for civilian guests. This is one of the few military campgrounds that allow an authorized user sponsor a civilian guest to have their own RV site. In addition to the nightly rates, there’s an additional $1.50 per night if you want 50amp electric. There also can be additional fees if you have more people staying on a site than what is included in the base rate. This can also be a little confusing. The base nightly rate for military is for 4 people. But the base nightly rate for DoD and civilian guests is only for 2 people. If the number of people staying on a site exceeds this, there’s another $1.50 per night fee for each additional person. For a DoD guest, using 50amp electric and having 2 teenagers with them, the nightly rate isn’t $26 as it first appears. The nightly rate is $30.50 per night. While this may appear a tad high, it’s actually competitive for this area.
The office staff was very helpful and there were many workers around the park. To me, this is a sign that they take pride in their facilities. Marilou, the assistant park manager was extremely helpful in answering all of my questions. She made it obvious that they want this RV Park to become the best in the Navy. They’re off to a very good start. A very highly recommended military campground to visit.
