We are planning to drive to Alaska next year, probably leaving from Montana sometime in June 2009. Is anyone interested in caravanning up with us? We are retired CG, have a 38' Dutchstar and have been full-timing since April 2008. We take our time traveling, usually stopping by 3 p.m. We plan to spend the entire summer in Alaska, heading back south in late August or early September.

Don - We are planning to head up Alaska next year too (while we can still afford diesel fuel - 37 foot Monaco). Our plan is to leave Bellingham on May 25th so will be a little ahead of you. I would be willing to bet we will cross paths someplace along the way. We are driving up AND back (no ferry). Plan to be up there 2 to 3 months or until the "termination dust" appears, whichever is first. Let us know your location as you go ([email protected]). We will have email the whole way (including an HF connection when there is no cell phone coverage). Would enjoy visiting with you.

We are also planning to go to Alaska for this summer. We are full-time in a Monaco Knight (40 ft - 4 slides) since Oct 2007. We're currently in southern California until the end of February. We're also planning on spending the entire summer either there or on our way through Canada. We won't be traveling by ferry because of our two cats. We're thinking of going through Glacier National Park on our way but haven't firmly decided upon that yet. Feel free to reply via this website for our email address.

AM currently in Florida heading west for the winter - and have wanted to do Alaska for years but was too busy raising a son. SO, keep me in this loop and if I can deal with some family issues (recent) I'll be willing to tag along for some company, some safety, and a good time ... been about half-timing it for several years, but began fulltiming in October last year.

Don't know what I'll be driving then, am 'taking a peek' as I cruise around and deciding what looks good.

The wife and I are also making the Alaska "trek", beginning in mid May if all goes well. We seem to be the only 5'ver in this group. We would love to keep in touch with those of you also doing this. Were planning on as much as 3 to 4 months. Were retired, but not full timers as we love our home. (After 30 years, there's just too much invested there.) We drive a 2K8 Chevy Turbo Diesel, (with transfer flow tank) and have a 2K7 Komfort 241fs with 1 slide. Our internet is an air card with a Cradlepoint router. Our Honda Eu2000 and Garmin GPS's round out most of the major toys as I don't hold out much hope for our HD satellite. This is our first land based trip to Alaska.
Regards
Bill and Carole

I'm envious of all those going to Alaska, or have already been. It's been one of goals since fulltiming (4+ years). Our current plans "hope" to take the summer off (we seasonal work) in 2011 or 2012 and finally make the trip.

For those making the trip this summer, I look forward to reading your reviews of any military campgrounds you visit. Also, please submit any photos and updates on the campground information so we're providing current info here.
