Larry, FYI -- the URL for Carr Point listed on the campgrounds page seems to be a dead link. 63.134.229.108/navsta_mwr_rv.aspx

Also, I called today to make a reservation for September and they told me they are not accepting reservations for that month because the date to break ground on a new campground is undertermined. She said they will be building a new 30 site CG. I saw on your info page that Carr Point does not presently have a dump site. I asked the lady on the phone today how the restrooms were. She said they don't have those either. My spousal unit could deal with not dumping but no shower facilities are a deal breaker for us. Thanks for a great website.

Ok, I see that someone said that they are going to pass on Newport because they do not have full hook ups. DO NOT PASS ON THIS PLACE! Go for at least a weekend, you will not regret it. There is a place to dump out about 2 miles away, they charged $10 to dump last year. Even if you see just one sunset from Carr Point it is worth the trip. I went last year with a 8 months pregnant spousal unit, and we stayed for a weekend, took showers all 3 mornings and used the bathroom. We only have one 40 gallon tank and we were full when we went to dump, but not overflowing. For us the key was not washing a single dish the entire weekend. Whatever you decide, good luck.

Just did 3 days in June 2008. First time. Will be back again. Even though no shower or in-site dump, it is still a place NOT TO BE PASSED UP. The cool weather and sitting outside looking over the water is fantastic. Drive to Historic Newport and Wickford is worth it. The small inconvienances are easily over shadowed by the evening sights of boats cruising on the bay and the town lights across the bay. What a way to vegitate. DO VISIT but leave a place for us.

I know this is an old subject, but I thought this was worth posting. Having spent a few weeks in Newport when my son was attending the NWC, we did some touring around. Carr Is a nice setting, but as stated it does not have sewer, but the dump station is as stated a few miles away.

As an alternative, we did tour Fisherman's Memorial State Park , 1011 Point Judith Rd, Narragansett, RI?., is about 20 minutes away from Downtown Newport and it is a very nice place. Spacious sites with full hookup.

We have reservations at Carr Pt. in a few weeks. This thread has been idle for a long time and I hope to re-vitilize it after we get home with some updated and current information. I can deal with the shortcomings that have been mentioned and will let you all know the scoop after we get home.
