Barney Quote: "There is a two week limit in the E/W and E/W/S sites and the longest we spent in the field was about 8 or 9 days. We did this for two months and then shortly after ..."
But the question is: How many site are in the rotation, and how many sites are filled for four or five months with the exact same individual who does not have to rotate -- if it is to be fair, EVERYONE should rotate... but at MacDill, many do not.
If you look at Tyndal AFB for example, they have full sites all winter, but every site rotates, so that the overflow is only a coulpe days for each -- then, even when a site is used for the maximum stay, the occupant must move to another site to keep individuals from "homesteading" one site.

I fail to see the fairness when people can't get in because of others who are allowed to stay 6 months. This kills almost an entire season for some travelers. I think when there begins to be a waiting list then the 6 months needs to be cut to 1 month with 1 month out and going to the end of the line. To bad we can't find out how many people called and was told that there was a year waiting list for full hookup. The manager needs to be fired and replaced with someone who believes in rotation not homesteading. But, I guess homesteading or 6 month stays means less paper work for the manager.

We stayed at Kessler AFB in Mississippi last March, and the host said they do have the one day reservation system. If you call them in the morning they will tell you if they have a space and will hold it for you that day. The host said they had finally convinced the manager that it was the proper thing to do since the campground is some distance from I 10, and few public campgrounds available since Katrina. I wish all the campgrounds would adopt this policy. We have had to stay in overflow (which is okay), and have also been turned away because of no vacancies.

Am bring this up to the top again because of observations made at Shields RV Park, Gulfport, MS. (see Shields RV Park thread.) Another 1st come, 1st service, place...reservations..even 1 day out...and an overflow...would help folks wanting to visit the area...with almost 70 sites and no overflow..they are turning people away...doesn't matter weither they are active duty, retired, etc....and as stated in the other thread...homesteaders of over 4-5 years keep it like this......in a nut shell...the 1st come, 1st served policy should be done away with....after a full day of driving, we want to drive in with a spot waiting for us, not spend the rest of the evening looking for a place to hang our hats...

I agree with the 1 day reservation request if you are traveling to ensure you have a place to park, and even if the Mil CG is full they should have a area on the installation to allow you to stay overnight to be safe and also this allows everyone to support the facilities on post, Lengthy reservations has always been a problem due to various changes in ones plans and they never call the Mil CG to cancel their reservations so it can be available to a 1 day reservation traveler, also I will go as far out as 4 day reservation because you cann travel in a RV in 4 days as far as from Va - Texas and make your reservation obligation, and request a 2 day min deposit to be charged if you fail to check-in. But all Mil CGs need to go to a Max of 2 week stay in the summer and a Max 4 Week stay in Winter to make the 1 day reservations work, and Homesteading will have to be a thing of the past.

I am surprised at the number of people who make reservations and pay for those reservations and then never show up. They do not get their money back and they deny the spot that they paid for to someone else who actually wants to be there.
I guess I am just so cheap that this bothers me. I hate wasting money for something I will never use.
