Is TikTok safe to use on campground WiFi? was created by danielmartinhq
I’ve seen a lot of talk about TikTok collecting data, and it makes me a bit uneasy using it while connected to public or campground WiFi. Some folks say it tracks way more than other apps, and I’m not sure how true that is.Does anyone here actually use TikTok while staying at military campgrounds? Do you take any extra steps like a VPN or just avoid the app altogether on shared networks? I’d like to hear what others are doing when it comes to privacy and security.

personally avoid using TikTok on campground or public WiFi. Even if the network seems safe, TikTok is known to collect a lot of metadata—location, device info, app usage—and on a shared network that could make you more exposed. If you really want to use it, I’d suggest at least using a VPN and limiting app permissions (like location and background data) as much as possible. Better safe than sorry, especially on military or public networks

I use TikTok occasionally while traveling, but I’m careful. I turn off location access, disable background data, and connect through a VPN whenever I’m on campground WiFi. It’s not perfect, but it reduces the risk. Some people just avoid the app entirely on shared networks—that’s the safest route. Really depends on how much you care about privacy vs. convenience
