IF you're thinking only about military campgrounds because of cost, there are a lot of options beyond MCGs ... we stay at a lot of MCGs all over the country, but also national parks and state parks. NP and SP always accept bikes and tents. The cost is very similar, or even less in the public parks in the country. Plus, and nothing against MCGs specifically, but you've probably seen a lot of military bases in your career, so a change of scenery to the wilderness area will be eye-candy for anyone that likes the outdoors. Take a look at the annual passes for national parks too - gets admission to all parks at no cost once you buy the pass. The passes are annual or lifetime depending on your age and if you are a disabled vet ... happy camping !!

We have been using military campgrounds for almost 20 years in various sizes of RV's and have never heard anyone make a negative comment about tents at the campgrounds. No idea why some do not have a tenting area but could be they do not make enough money from tenting. The "stink eye" comment made us feel uncomfortable as we all have choices to make and no matter if you are in an RV or a TENT you will always be a friend to us. Some of the tenters are neater than the homesteaders in RV's, just saying.............................
