I recently recieved my CD from RV bookstore. I installed the CD but when I try to run it it says "Cant Identify OS Version. Than when I click ok on that it comes back half a dozen times than it says "File does not exist" than click ok on that one another half dozen times and it comes back with "Data Base Not Open" than click ok on that and it goes back and forth between Data base not open and file does not exist and finally it gives me a map of the US and you click on a state and it gives me one of them famous internet pages that says "Navigation to the web page was cancelled". Ok is it the windows vista, or the disk itself or is there some other info I needed to do during the installation?
thanks for any assistance

Can't answer your question nor advise -- but I do know this ... Wdw Vista really sucks and I can't get half my programs to operate properly ... I'm almost ready take this new laptop and re-install XP on it just so I can use what I already have. I don't want to buy all new programs, and I'm too computer stupid to try to adjust and repair all this stuff. I wonder why MS can't just leave a good OS alone, and just upgrade it as they deveop new concepts. When they re-do a complete new OS, it certainly does screw a lot of people up.

Lee,

The CD version you received isn't Vista compatible, hence all of the errors. There should have been a label on the front of your CD case with instructions on how to obtain the Vista patch.
  • First install the version from the CD. (You already did this).
  • Then download and install the Vista patch from the H-W Enterprises website. The CD version MUST be installed first.

Once you've received your Premium Subscription registration, be sure to perfrom an update. This will bring your software to the most recent version available.

I have attempted to download the update but it keeps giving me not responding. I even downloaded it to a download file on my pc but still would not respond when attempting to open it.
I sent HW an email and I will continue to try and continue to open it. I will let you know tomorrow if I have succeeded or not.

I have found the answer to the problem and it worked well. So for anyone in the future who may have the same problem try this.

To run a program in the compatibility mode, you need to locate the executable (.exe) file for the program you want to run. For example, if you want to run an old version of Adobe Photoshop, go to the Adobe sub-directory in your Program Files folder and locate Photoshop?s .exe file. Note: This trick will not work on the shortcut you may have created on your desktop for Photoshop. You have to manually locate the main .exe file in the directory where you installed the software. Once you have located the .exe file, right click on it and select Properties. Go to the Compatibility tab and select the option of "Run this program in compatibility mode for." Below the checkbox, you will see a drop down list. Choose the operating system you were using the program with earlier and that?s it. Now, your old program is good to run with Windows Vista.

I went to the downloaded copy of the Vista fix given me yesterday and right clicked in its icon than followed the directions given here.
