Sportsman's Beach is a BLM campground on Walker Lake north of Hawthorne. If you have any of the Access Passes, the cost is $3.50 a night. However, the last two times we stopped there, the Iron Ranger was so stuffed with envelopes that we couldn't force our payment into it. So we just kept it and waited for a ranger to come by and collect. They never did.

If you use US-95 to move north and south, this place is very convenient. It is usually almost deserted every time we have stopped there, but is clean and neat. There are two distinct sections - an upper section with back-in spots, and a lower section with pull-throughs. There are tables and shade shelters at all sites. There is also an undeveloped parking area (costs less) in the lower section that many people utilize.

NO WATER. NO DUMP. Pit toilets and trash service are provided. Big Rig Friendly. Ample services in Hawthorne, about 10 miles south. There is a dump station and drinking water at El Capitan Casino in Hawthorne for no charge, but it would be nice if you ate a meal in their restruant - pretty good food, actually.

Some people wonder all their lives if they've made a difference. The Marines don't have that problem.” Ronald Reagan
