just a friendly warning to my military family. about a week ago my wife bought a virgin mobile hotspot to use while on the road. it came with a folder telling her to call the 800 number listed to activate the device.
she called the number and was connected to some guy in india. he was friendly enough, led her throough the activation process, and sold her 30 days of service on her credit card. now we have used virgin mobil for years with no problems.
the next morning we awoke to a $3,400.00 charge on her card at a botique in Dubai. the moron from india, the employee of virgin mobile, had stolen the number and began using it all over the world.
we are now involved in the process of getting the charges dropped and waiting for fed ex to bring new cards.
the moral of this story is, NEVER ! EVER ! give anyone your card number over the phone. its not secure, and these sleaze balls from india are theives. and what does virgin mobile have to say ? well to paraphrase a pile of e-mails to them "gosh we are sorry but thats pretty much what you get for giving "OUR" employee your credit card number.
