Would love to hear from/chat with military retirees who are fulltiming. Since DH lost his job in January & is having no luck finding anything, we're considering starting our RV dream a few years earlier than planned. We would sell our house & most of what's in it, & fulltime in our TT. (Rig is paid for, we have no debt other than the house) We are young to retire, 53 & 56, so we would be living on military retirement only for 6 years, but would love to do workamping half the year. Our concerns -- money, obviously. Also the availability of & liklihood that we could actually get a workkamping job for 6 months out of the year, and the chances of traveling from MCG to MCG almost exclusively -- as our budget will not allow for more expensive campgrounds. Don't like the idea of Boondocking too much. With the military retirement pay & Tricare, we feel very fortunate to even be able to consider this. Any thoughts/advice/input is welcome.

Hi RVDreamers,

We started just like you 9 years ago, but I was only 47 years old at the time. We've been full-timing since with no "sticks and bricks" house. At first, my enlisted retirement was our only source of income, so we've been workamping every summer. I've worked my way into management, taking care of USFS campgrounds in the summer.

If you wish, much of our story can be found on our personal website . However, I haven't kept it current for the past few years (since Facebook). There's a section there with our financial expenses for the first 4 or 5 years on the road. You might find it interesting on what it was costing us to full-time in the RV.

I hire about 60 employees each summer. Contact me in October if you're interested in working the following summer in the Inyo National Forest,, CA.

Thank you Larry, Lori, and Bob! I so appreciate your quick responses. I feel more reassured after reading your posts & visiting your websites. Workamping 6 months out of the year is a definite, providing we can find something. I have elderly parents in FL & so we would look for something in the Southeast at first. But ultimately, we hope to GO WEST! So thank you again for your reassurance. Our minds are made up, it's just a matter of time.

Looks like it's really happening! We've made the decision to sell the house & everything in it & get out there! Terrifying & exciting!
