House sitting was created by Suzq
We used to know a couple who rv'ed and house sat to escape the snow. We want to spend more time rving but worry about our home all by itself while we are away. We live just north of Tampa Bay and might consider some house sitters with good refs. Anyone know a reliable couple who house sit to escape the cold winters? Or like summer in Florida?

Any reason you can't just notify the local cops, shut off the water, and leave? Are you very rural?

We leave anywhere from a couple weeks to four months, or longer.

We live in JAX, and the neighbor keeps his eye out while we're gone. We do the same for his place. Although, we now live in a condo, we did the same thing when living in a house before selling it. We asked the cop on our route to keep his eye out, and then the neighbor too.

We shut the water off just in case - didn't want a leak or WH failure and flooding. Otherwise, no problems.

We live North of Tampa Bay in the country and when we go away for a two month trip we only leave one refrigerator on and the pool pump is on a timer we adjust based on the time of year we go away, everything else is turned off including the well. Pool has a gravity overflow so no worry about rainy season. Property is all fenced in and locked and only one neighbor close enough to do a visual check periodically. We have been doing this for over 12 years and never have had a problem. Very risky to have someone actually house sit for you unless you have known them for a very long time. You might want to try going away for a month and shut down everything you feel comfortable shutting down and see how it goes when you get back home. Life is too short to let bricks and mortar stop us from doing what we love. Good luck Suzq!
