The following was released in our October 2009 edition of the U.S. Military Campgrounds and RV Parks monthly eNewsletter:
Buckley AFB, CO - According to an "Area Development Plan" for Walker Lake located at Buckley AFB, CO, a new FamCamp is planned to be built. This will include 10 spaces for tents area and 38, 50-foot RV sites with full hook-ups. A 176 parking space day-use area will also be built with playground, restrooms, jogging trails, and more. The "plan" states this will be done in FY 2010. We look forward to a new USAF FamCamp!

This I got from the Buckley AFB website:

Cost: $2.5 million
Purpose: The project builds a family campground with 38 RV sites. Each site will have a picnic table, cooking grill, water, and electrical hookups. The base is located within a few hours of several National Parks and many other major vacation areas. Local commercial campgrounds are filled to capacity during the summer months. The FAMCAMP is sited adjacent the base's outdoor recreation area which includes a lake stocked with trout and other native species. The facility will provide a unique opportunity for travelers on their way to bigger vacation areas and to those that want to visit base personnel while staying in a campground setting.
Projected Completion Date: To be determined

Although this Famcamp has been open for several years now, and even though it APPEARS to be a well-laid out facility with paved, mostly pull-through spots with grass, management leaves everything to be desired. When there IS a Camp Host, who is rarely available, massive abuse is rampant as far as reservation system cheating, rule breaking, and failure to apply regulations equally. On and off season, you have to register/pay half way across the base with NO parking available for large trailers/RV's, they are NOT open on Sunday and limited hours on Saturday, sites are NOT assigned so you don't know whether a tent camper is sitting in a 50' pull-through, when the only first-come-first-serve spot for YOUR 45' RV is a 20' back-in spot. Their 'management' almost never supervises activity in Famcamp, and are VERY discourteous. Customer Service is horrible with a "YOU bow down to us" attitude rather than the requisite "We're here to serve YOU" that one would expect. Be prepared for a TERRIBLE stay!

sounds like a GREAT place doc, loose reservations, no one bothering you on site, and all that for only 2.5 million. gotta love it :-)
