Arizona ?'s

Hello all, and I have a few newbie type questions. Never having camped at a military fam camp, I was wondering if anyone would have any insight into Davis-Mothan Fam Camp and or Apache Flats RV Resort? I have visited some military campgrounds, just to see what they were like. We visited Coonscreek Rec area in Florida. It seemed totally packed and no way to actually get a elec spot unless you were willing to wait for a couple of years.
Would the camps in Arizona likely to be as crowded? Are there any shaded areas for the overflow?
We could do without electricity I believe as long as there were showers and restrooms nearby. I have some solar panels I usually travel with for small elec loads such as lights and radio or tv.
And never having been in Arizona, what would the night time temps range from in both of the above mentioned Arizona campgrounds?
Hope that isn't too many questions.
Any info would be great. I have a military living guidebook that I am looking at for possible stops in the SouthWest.

Any "destination" Famcamp is crowded during the "season". Florida & Arizona in the winter months are usually full & with a waiting list. Look for nearby, smaller Famcamps in similar temperature/weather patterns. For example- Davis Monthan does not take reservations, so we haven't been there yet. So we reserved at White Sands. WOW. Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio is always full, so we tried Laughlin AFB. Another Wow. I just reserved 30 days at King's Bay, GA. in Nov/Dec. No problem, just avoid snowbird territory during their migration months. We didn't see shaded overflow at any of the 3 New Mexico campgrounds, we used. I recommend Weather.com for temperature info. You can get great info on high's & lows for any month. Just do your research & let that be part of fun of traveling. The website you're on is the best, single source of current info for the US Military Famcamps but even here, Larry has links to each bases' home website or to their MWR website. And pls try calling the campground host (numbers provided on this website too). With RARE exceptions, the managers or hosts are great about answering your questions. Each campground review on this site is a seperate, great source of info & you can email the author and ask him/her questions about their stay. Enjoy. And drive safe.

Ron, the weather is great at both of the Az. campgrounds you mentioned. Night time in the 50-60's and daytime in the mid 70-80's and no humidity. That is what I like. We will spend about a month and a half at Apache Flats and then in late Nov. move to Yuma proving grounds. Both have some overflow.

Apache Flats and White Sands are crowded and people can stay there all season (very few exceptions), which doesn't allow new campers to rotate in.

You'll be able to get into Agave Gulch (Davis-Monthan), if you're willing to stay in overflow for a few days (maybe up to 7 days). They have a FAIR rotation policy. You can only stay in a FHU site for 3 weeks, then you can go back to overflow for a few days and wait to get back into FHU for another 3 weeks. You can repeat this all winter. This FAIR policy allows EVERYONE to enjoy the FamCamp. There's not much shade, but the winter weather is usually nice during the days (60-70's), but can get chilly at night (40's).

29 Palms isn't far from Az and has a nice campground. In winter you might have to call for reservations. Then check out Joshua Tree, its awesome
