Anyone stay at Camp Navajo FAMCAMP in AZ this past summer. We are planning a trip to the Grand Canyon in July 08 and want to know if the first come first in will cause us problems. Also do they have a dump station? Thanks

Since Camp Navajo just opened last summer (I believe), I doubt there were many visitors. This year may be busier since word is starting to spread about this new military campground. I haven't received news that they have a dump.

Be sure to update the campground information and write a review of your experience there!

We stayed there in Oct on the way to balloon festival. This was very nice and quiet Hookup sites were $15 and tent sites $8. There is a nice dump at the top of the hill before going down into the campground. No facilities on the base. They do have boq and some billeting. They allow some fishing during certain times of day.
Camp ground host phone number is 928-699-8866. I forget their names. They have a house nearby and are in and out.

We are currently at Camp Navajo and price is still $15. It's Elk season and the elk are bugling everywhere. There is a new camping world and a 50 site rv park being built at this exit next to the Harley dealership and restaurant. Pilot has a giant station across the freeway with a Mcdonalds and Subway. Lots of new houses being built and Flagstaff is wonderful.

We are currently @ Camp Navajo and have found it to be a good place to be.  We are sightseeing in the area (Flagstaff, Route 66, Sunset Crater NP) and will take the train out of Williams tomorrow to go to the Grand Canyon.  It is dry and dusty & if by chance it rained it would be muddy, but that's ok, every place has something, right?  It's Elk season and the hunters' abound.  We went on a long hike today and found some history of this Camp.  In 1944-45 it had a prisoner of war camp for Austrians, not Germans, Austrians.  We saw that it had fire hydrants and roads and debris around making it look like a housing area at some time that was either planned and not finished or old and delapidated and torn down.  We had a great story going when we came upon a large sign that told the history of the camp.  We were just amazed when we read about the prisoners of war that were housed here and what happened after VE Day.  I love to read about our history and know that the USA had many prisoner of war camps in the past, but this one totally suprised both of us.  There is a dump station at the top of the "hill" to use before and after parking & setting up.  A very clean bath house and more stars than you can wish for at night.  This little camp needs to be known and more people need to get out and learn about the history of our great country.

Also, we have looked for the town or burg of Bellemont and even though there are signs pointing in the direction of the town - it doesn't seen to exist anymore.  There is a truckstop (Pilot) with a Subway and a McDonalds in it.  This truckstop has a post office in it and I'm hoping that that is the official post office for the zip code 86015, so far no luck finding it.  We asked the "guard" at the gate and he said there isn't one (Post Office or Town).  Will let you know if I find it.  So, if you are adventurous and love history, this is a great place to stay.
We did discover that the Post Office for Bellemont is in the truckstop for mail General Delivery for this camp. They also do have a laundry room.
