This campground which has existed in various forms for 10 years or so is on the verge of re-opening. There are 18 sites most all with WSE, but none are pull- throughs. All pads are concrete and are much more than less level all the way. The campground is within 50 meters of the BX and supposedly Camp Mabry is getting a commissary in the near future. The daily rate for a retiree will be $20.00 with a 2-week maximum stay. I asked about the "leave/come back" cycle and the management didn't have that information. The base at Camp Mabry is the State of Texas Headquarters for all National Guard of Texas assets both Army & Air Guard and as such ostensibly doesn't get Federal monies for this project and as most would know each state in the Union is like its own fiefdom with its own "king" (Adjutant General). I always expect a bit of difference with these "reserve" type campgrounds as opposed to Active Duty campgrounds. Thirty amp will be at minimum the electricity. Austin (the State Capitol), bills itself as the live music capital in the world and they work hard to prove it. The overall location of the campground is Central Austin which is advantageous in so far as going to local sights. San Antonio is about a 1 hour 30-45 minute drive south, and Fredricksburg, TX. (German community & Nimitz Museum) about a two hour drive. With the Texas Army National Guard with one of the highest member density's one may well expect to find the campground full most of the time. The reservation phone number for regular billeting will probably serve as info/reservations and it is (512) 782-5500/DSN 954-5500. Best slots are #13 & #15. Kindest Regards.....Lapster173
