It seems this campground, Osprey Cove at Mayport Naval Station, FL, is becoming something of a controversy. I was recently asked by a "manager" (I'll keep their name to myself) at Mayport to remove the listing about Osprey Cove from the website, since the listing had "erroneous and misleading" information. The manager refused to provide me with further information about the park, a reason why the listing should be removed, or what information is "erroneous and misleading". It seems someone there is upset that I revealed a "secret" campground. I refuse to remove the listing without a valid reason. :o

I'm not looking for problems, so if there's anymore information or confirmations of the information already provided, I'd sure appreciate it. I don't doubt the information that has been provided, I'm just looking for more validation. The manager accused me of being "irresponsible" for posting this information without confirmation from them. But that's another story.

Larry, the info I posted on Jan 12th, I gathered by calling Pelican"s Roost and talking to the person that answered the phone. I live close to Mayport, have stayed at the campground and had no reason to doubt the info I was given. Me thinks something smells fishy in this Pelican's Roost.

Larry,
Your "manager" person needs to look up the definition of irresponsible to determine which of the two of you of is most in agreement. Our plans have changed and there is a good chance that some time next month we can make a side trip to Mayport to check it out. Will let you know what we find out.

I have reservations there since I'm going down PCS and we fulltime as well. Pelican's Roost is for stays 28 days or less with Osprey being for longterm over 28 days. Of course the usual pecking order applies. Also, the dog/cat rules are extremely tight with your pet having to be inside unless you are with it outside. I also called the housing office to verify the extreme dog rules and they confirmed that even in housing the pet must be inside when you are not outside.

Other than that, the staff was friendly and informative.

Here's the latest. The "New" CG is for "long term stays". The new campground is a converted mobil home park and the only way in or out is through housing. So to keep the motorhome (or whatever RV you have) traffic down they only put you there if you are going to be staying at least 28 days. There is still toad traffic through housing but they won't have big rigs going in and out as much. I got this info from a close friend who stayed there a couple of weeks ago for about a week and this is the story they gave him.
So now we know "The Rest of the Story", however I am willing to bet that this isn't "the end of the story".

Well, I suppose I should be more active here in the forum :( I was just at Mayport the last 3 days and could have done some first-hand investigation, took photos, etc. if I had known. Now at Keesler AFB in dry camp for a week or more and heading West.

Happy trails,

Mac
