We stayed there a couple years ago. They are an OLD famcamp. Many homesteaders and rather run down. You are MILES from anywhere, no cell reception. Base is mostly inactive, but was told they were NOT going to close it as it is used for training etc. No servicecs to speak of, don't remember them having a PX or Commissary. They may have, but if so, it would be small and have limited hours. It served our purpose, a place to spend the night with full hookups, and we were able to dump, and refil h2o. No WI-FI, had a line in the laundry for dial up. Price was right, $7.50 / night.
Good Luck, hope you enjoy. I don't remember any other local parks.

I've never stayed there, but it is a military campground. It just has a strange name (trailer park). The USAF is the only service that calls their campgrounds "FamCamps". You can read more on the campground's information page.

Have not personally been to this base but it definitely an inactive base. It is mainly used in the summers for Army National Guard training. Guardsmen from here in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Northeast Texas and Louisiana do their two week training sessions there. As far as I know there are no base services such as Exchange/Commisary, etc.

It has also been used over the years to house evacuees and refugees. When the massive influx of Vietnman refugees were coming in they used Fort Chaffee as a holding/staging base for these folks until they could get sponsors and relocate into communities around the country.
