We really enjoyed this park! Wanda was there to greet us with a hug and helped us pick out our spot. It is in an industrial area, so we were prepared for the dog food factory (just smelled like dog food) and the trains. The Ghirardelli chocolate outlet is about 2 minutes away, so that made up for it! Park was a good home base for day trips to San Francisco and Yosemite. Swimming pool, fitness center, showers, and laundry close by and very clean.

We ended up staying here for 27 days as we had some work done on MH. We parked in the pull-thrus and the site was very adequate. We used the laundry and it was always clean and only cost $1 per machine. The grounds are well kept up and lots of nice green grass. At night you will probably see a zillion bunny rabbits! We have friends in Manteca so it was really convenient to visit them. Also, it is about an hour or so drive to the Bay Area. The train noise and the dog food plant were the only bummers but at only $15 a night, it was well worth it! Wanda was very gracious in helping us get situated. Unfortunately during our stay, Bob passed away after a long illness. We certainly plan on stopping there again.

We stopped in at the Sharpe Depot near Stockton today (28 March 2014) to see if the ole famcamp was still open and functioning. Here is what we learned. A. The guard at the gate (a DLA employee who knew Bob and Wanda) said the famcamp is indeed open and should continue to be open through September 2014 - and that that date was not set in concrete. But that was when they were told they (the DLA) would leave. The guard did not know, of course, what the Army is planning to do when they take over a portion of the old depot/base. But it looks like you can still pop off I-5 to spend a night there through September. B. The base looks 90% deserted already - mostly empty building and vacant parking lots with just one or two building having any cars around it. The famcamp was the same as in years past - but Bob and Wanda's trailer was gone (sad news - a vacant spot), the weeds and grass had begun to grow up and it was starting to look shabby. There was only one RV at the camp when we stopped. C. Inside the registration box was (1) a handwritten note that said the rate was $15 per night and that Golden Age discounts were no longer accepted so it was $15 per night. (2) A notice that the "POC" for the camp was Ernie Sloan at the recreation office - phone (209) 982-2237 and email [email protected] So, if you want to stay here - and are concerned about the camp - you can now email or give Mr. Sloan a call.

Arrived on Sunday afternoon in the rain. Bob & Wanda were not on duty but we had no problems as there were several empty spaces. Unfortunately we chose a bad one. After we were parked and set up, we discovered that the 50amp outlet was defective and we had to use the 30amp with a pigtail. The voltage was very low and we could not use more than one appliance at a time. However we will probably stop again because we have never had problems and Bob & Wanda have always been great hosts.

We overnighted here. Bob was a real nice guy. Wanda on the other hand was about as friendly as a rattlesnake. We were pcsing and didn't have an actual address so we put our new home address on the check in slip. It seems that we weren't supposed to do that. Wanda was irritated that we weren't from where we were going. I suspect it is reverse age discrimination. So all you oldsters remember that it goes both ways. Then the day we left I walked around the camp to take some photos for this site. Wanda proceeded to come out and chew my butt for doing so. We came from a base that has U2's, Global Hawks, and Pave Paws and I've never been told not to take pictures on that base. What the heck do they have at Sharpe that couldn't be photographed? Maybe the active duty folks sitting on their bottoms, I don't know. Great camp for overnight. Wanda needs some love.

What a shame. Sharpe Famcamp will only be open for another 2 weeks. It was a convenient stopping point off the I-5 corridor. When I arrived, the gate guards told me right away that the entire installation will close on 9/2/14 but that the camp will be open until then. The rate was still $15/night but as others have mentioned it's understandably a ghost town. It's also situated in the middle of a highly industrial area. Glad I found a place to land for the night....

A super deal for $15 a night for full hook ups. A hidden gem. If you are traveling north/south through California this is a perfect stopping place, right off Interstate 5. There are a million trains all around but the noise really isn't bad at night and didn't bother us at all for the four nights we stayed. There is no camp host and no RV park manager, just an iron ranger. No reservations are accepted but we called the base police (209)982-2560 before we got near the place and they were very helpful. They told us there were plenty of spaces open and gave us a lot of good info about the park and the base. I highly recommend you call them before arrival to check if there is any room for you. Very nice, grassy spaces and well kept up. The base police and several other base employees told us the RV park may close sometime in 2014, probably not later than September 30th, so call first to be sure. We will definitely stay here again if it stays open.

Nice clean small RV Park and noise is included. Bob and Wanda are wonderful hosts. The location is wonderful for us as we have 3 children and our grandchildren that live in the area. A great base camp for touring Yosemite or the Bay Area.

We were happy to arrive and find space. Hosts Wanda and Bob are great! I told them about the new Military Campgrounds site that is now available to us all. They were happy to learn about the site. We have stayed here other times and this is the first time we actually knew about the AAFES Store. There was some construction and detours this trip but nothing to deter us from returning here at some future date. The weather was beautiful and Bob was busy sprucing up the place.

This is a nice park. The location is great. Everything was clean and fresh. The pool was closed due to late in the season. Laundry room was a short walk from campsites. We stayed in a motor home and would definitely stay here again on our way through.

Great little RV park. Hosts were really helpful. Dogs loved running on the large grassy areas. Would rate higher but was noisy with trains nearby. Did not experience the odor problem probably due to being there on Friday/Saturday.

This park is very well maintained and hooks up worked as they should. Stockton is not exactly the center of activity in Northern California, but it is a good place to stop to catch your breath. My only complaint, but this is not under the control of the RV park, is the smell that comes from the dog food factory - it is pretty strong and quite unpleasant.

Good price, we ended up staying for 13 night. Not much to do on the base but Stockton is close and San Francisco and Oakland are about a hour away. The only grass in each space is because previous campers watered it. Train noise is bad but for the price tolerable. Has direct access to the bases swimming pool, laundry, and bathrooms are old but in good shape. The camp hosts are very nice but because of health problems another host couple should be brought on board to take care of the grounds. I hope this campground remains open as the base apparently is being handed over to another branch of service.

Very Nice small RV Park with outdated policys. The park is due to change hands next year when the Army will take over. The Max stay of 28 days does not compair with Travis or any other park in the area. Wonda is a great host and tryes to handle most concerns. We have stayed here on more then one occasion and will stay again.

With Sharpe Depot pending closure later this year ,the future of the RV park is unknown, Sharpe is one of those rare experiences to take in ,the park itself is small, noisy,( trains) and smells from the local Dog Food processing facility, What sets Sharpe aside from other military RV parks was the Hosts Bob and Wanda Thompson fo 17 years. Bob passed last October and is already missed by myself. If you visited Sharpe once ,your were an instant fan of thre place , because of Bob and Wanda. Its the people make the difference , not how fancy the park is,the ammenities or the location of the park. The rating of all 5's in my last for Sharpe and well deserved.

Bob and Wanda, camp hosts met us and helped us get parked. We arrived after dark with a traveling partner who had trouble parking his rig. Bob got in the pickup and parked it for him while Wanda took his wife out of the way and gave her tea and a rum cake. Wanda later brought over to us two delicious pieces of her rum cake which we thought was very gracious of her. We would recommend this camp and the hosts for any traveler for an overnight stay or for a few days in the area. John Trammell

Stayed one night after picking up MH from Freight liner repair facility in French Camp (about 1/2 mile from Sharpe Depot). Great setting for an overnight stay. Beautiful park, lots of green grass.

We Arrived after hours on Friday and followed the written instructions for late checkin. We were right about the dog enjoying the grassy area, which are well maintained in the winter. The only markdown comes because of no map to the bathroom and Wanda seen us outside the RV as she rode her handicap scooter to get her mail but failed to come over to introduce herself. We wonder if we stayed an extra day without paying if Bob & Wanda would have approached us. This park is very convenient to I-5 travelers. There is a Subway on base which sign says open at 6:30 for those want a quick meal prior to departure. The restrooms and laundry were always clean. Wife says women's shower handle is hard for someone with arthritis to operate in the regular stall.

We stopped here one Thursday night in transit north on I-5. The directions to the park were spot on and the personnel at the gate were very helpful. We had difficulty contacting the hosts to determine if there was a vacancy and never did actually see the hosts which was no big deal. It is a self serve check-in where you fill out a form and place your CHECK OR CASH only in an envelope and then in the box. We had read about train noise and dog food factory odors. I heard one train (maybe I was tired) and we did not smell any foul odors. Maybe just lucky. We were traveling with our dogs and the lawns and grounds were fantastic. There were only about 5 other rigs in the campground and they all appeared to be long term. This is a great value for a brief in-transit stop.
