If you are anywhere in this area, or looking for a fun diversion, you will not be disappointed. We stayed at this lighthouse for 2 nights while on an extended road trip and really enjoyed our stay! The lighthouse is a little off the beaten path, but for a good reason – it is a scenic drive and it sits on a beautiful piece of property. It took me a while to find this website, but to actually book and reserve the lighthouse property, you have to first visit: https://www.atlanticarea.uscg.mil/Our-Organization/District-9/Ninth-District-Units/Sector-Lake-Michigan/Services/MWR_Cottages/ Just know that before you can stay, you have to first stop at the local Coast Guard Station – which is at least a 20 minute drive away. The address of this station is: 2500 Canal Road, in Sturgeon Bay. You will need to look for a two story white building – found just beyond a skinny light house, near the shore. Knock on the east door and wait for someone to bring you inside, where you will then sign for the keys. Check in at 1300, check out by 1200. The light house is at a different address, on the complete other side of town – it actually is in the township of Nasewaupee. Easiest way to get there? Just search in your map app for: Sherwood Point Lighthouse. Considering its age, the cottage beneath the lighthouse is well maintained and spacious. The kitchen is fully furnished, there is a full size fridge and stove, and a washer/dryer in the basement. Oh, and if you look around the reading room, you may just stumble across a few journals, where people recount their interactions with the resident ghost, Minnie. (Don’t worry, she’s friendly) To read more about the history of the ghost and the lighthouse, be sure to check out: https://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/story/news/local/door-co/2016/10/28/ghost-stories-continue-haunt-local-lighthouses/92911120/

AMAZING for all ages! I went to Sherwood Pt Lighthouse with my husband for 2(?) maybe 3 nights:) It was amazing! The house is actually located in the middle of nowhere so don't be shocked when you find yourself driving down country roads and up a hill! It's worth the hike. It is located on top of a bluff....no neighbors nearby....and embraced by the woods and the sounds of the lake below! This is the perfect place for couples, family's, friends, etc... The house is in awesome condition, the kitchen is fully equipped and has a large dining room table, dishes, full size fridge, etc. The master bedroom on the main floor is beautifully decorated with queen size bed, large dresser and windows throughout entire house that over look the lake. There is also the "attic" upstairs that has two daybeds with twin pull outs stowed beneath and then a set of bunk beds in a room also on the main floor. BE SURE TO LOOK IN CLOSETS! They have hichairs, bags, grilling stuff, etc! The bathroom, kitchen, rooms, living room, etc...were all so clean and inviting! DON'T MISS THIS PERFECT GETAWAY! FYI-there is also a fire pit and a grill for cookouts! There is lots to do in door county but I would recommend having several stops when going into town. It does take a good 20 min-30 min to get to grocery's and shopping:) and you won't really want to go to town twice in a day! Be sure to check out all the wine tasting scattered throughout Door County along with the trolley rides in Fish Creek! P.S. If you are going during the summer months be sure to pack your swimming suits! There is an awesome sand beach at Whitefish Dunes not far from lighthouse and also a cool lookout tower that overlooks the water at Potawatomi State Park...along with very nice biking/hiking trails there!
This is truly a must see and you will not regret it! I plan on heading out there this summer with a few other Army wives to stay for several nights and my hubby and I also plan on heading back when he returns from deployment! Enjoy, have fun, and don't let Minnie the ghost scare you;) She is friendly! I have tons of pics if you'd like to see the inside of the lighthouse!

I stayed there with my 2 sons and their friends and 2 other relatives and it was awesome. The picture does not do this place justice, it's on a cliff which is in a wooded area over looking the water and the lighthouse is still active. There are steps which take you down to the water and it is breath taking and very private. Door County is great to check out starting with Sturgeon Bay which is a cool town, we were there during there Festival [in June] and got to see and talk with Jackson Brown. It's rich in history and will go again, but before I close just to let you know the lighthouse is haunted by ghosts so if you're squeamishness, oh well.. enjoy.
