Visited Sept 2011. All of my comments (or anyone elses') will be OBE soon. I was told by an employee at Duffers (where you sign in) that Rocky Point will be closed Jan 2012 when the new RV campground (Cliffside?) is complete. The sites here are not as off-level as earlier described, but they aren't perfect. Plenty of open space. A few bushes and tall grass, but no trees. There were several homesteaders and each had a large, noisy contractor-type generator. Most everyone else in he park had a Honda 2000. The Camp Host was not seen during our visit, nor at anytime 3 days prior to our visit when we were checking out the place. And, of course, like in the San Diego region (maybe all of the Navy the new price will be $40 (as told to me by the employee).

Rocky Point is a dry camping park, first come, first served. It is located outside the regular base perimeter, no gate guards. The sites are spacious, widely separated, and somewhat remote. The access roads are gravel and sign-in is at the Duffers Golf Club house. We never saw the CG host or any base personnel other than the Club Pro who signed us in. Several of the rigs seemed to be just "stored" there as we never saw anyone attending them. The Navy firing (pistol) range is right next door (literally) and part of the beach closes when it is in use. The sound was not excessive but the thought of inadvertently wandering into the off limits beach area was annoying. They are supposed to put up a red flag, although we never saw it, even though the range was obviously in use. This was in the afternoon fortunately. The beach was flat with tons of driftwood. We witnessed an awesome sunset from our dinner table and there were lots of cottontail rabbits with hawks chasing them. The wife felt the park was a little too remote. Sites were not the most level and our rear jacks would not reach the ground without a lot of shoring. The $7 nightly rate is a value.
