I must have done something wrong on my first comment of last week. It was indeed a very negative review. A few of my opinions was brought to play in my review. First Homesteaders. Well Ocean Pines has more than should be allowed. It is bad when the school buses stop there to pick up and drop off School Kids. Long term residents called Homesteaders. I can see a small part of the Campground set aside for them, but this campground is packed with them. There are RVs that have not moved in over three years as per other campers. They claim and pointed out a Class "A" that is such a bad shape it can not be started and removed if it became necessary. What gets me is that most of these folks draw BAQ, Cola, and other benefits that help to offset the expenses needed to live in the surrounding communities. So instead of using those benefits they use MWR monies. MWR's mission is not to augment PWD funds, but rather to provide recreational opportunities to military and retired personnel on a short term basis. One site had a pick up parked on the ramp/site for the RVs and no RV in sight. I brought this up to the manager who had already pissed me off with his rude attitude. He said the pick up belonged to the camper which was not there, but he was paying for the site. When I arrived a old shipmate of mine helped me back in and hook up the sewer line and when I was about to hook up the water he stopped me and showed me that there was a lot of rust in the lines. He turned on the faucet and the water was almost black with rust. In a few seconds it turned clear. He looked at my hose and asked about the filter. I informed him it was in the RV and new. When I got home and started to winterize the RV the filter was soo dark from the waterlines at Ocean Pines. In other words folks the water lines are so outdated one has to wonder if there was also lead being used to connect them. Not Good. This campground needs to be scrapped and leveled out and rebuilt to a more modern RV Park. There was a laundry mat at the office complex that one checks into at, but the restrooms for the 96 campsites is a single bathroom located in the same building. The laundry mat was nice and looked large enough to handle two to four people doing their laundry at the same time. One thing that stands out above most RV Parks is the Pet Area, that it is huge about the size of four or more football fields. Well kept up as was most of the campgrounds. The sites did needed to be cleaned up especially at those of the Homesteaders that do not show up for six or more months, but kept their RVs there. I walked my dog three times daily on the roadway and noticed a lot of campers not being used, but taking up sites for those who might want to only stay a week or two and leave. The residents were friendly enough and helped if one needed it.

On 1 October, 2017, Ocean Pines and SeaMist RV Parks, associated with Naval Air Station Oceana, will do away with weekly and monthly discount rates. The daily rate will remain at $25.00, but a week long stay will increase to $175 from $154, and a month long visit will now cost you $750, up $240 from the monthly rate of $510. While Rick, the campground manager has continued to maintain the appearance of the park in great condition, keeping the grass cut, sidewalks trimmed and gutters cleaned out, as well as doing all of the check-ins, check-outs and managing a long wait list, the park does have some problems. The handicapped access ramp to the office, laundry, restrooms and showers has been roped off for over a year due to collapse of the deck area in front of the handicapped entrance to the building. The night entrance to the building, which is protected with a keypad, has been roped off for the same reason for the past three months. The wifi worked great last summer when a new system was installed, but this year, the system keeps dropping the signal, requiring that you log back on every few minutes. It is a shame that they see fit to raise the rates, but won't put money into making needed repairs to the entrance gate and the RV park office building.

We were very disappointed there are so many long term campers here. We were here for 6 days and on each side of us our neighbors were not present, only their rigs. The check in staff was very helpful. We did not use the restroom or laundry facilities so cannot comment on them. We were also disappointed there was no cable or wifi. We were able to pick a site where out roof mounted satellite worked and we received 2 local channels on the antennae. Our Verizon signal was very strong. Our site was level as we had two concrete rows to place our wheels. Also there was a nice patio and the sites very relatively spacious. Also liked the close proximity of the commissary and base exchange. If we come to this area again we would try to secure reservations at Sea Mist where we could be closer to the ocean.

I have to say that I was here at the same time as the previous commenter. I vehemently disagree with her assessment of Jackie. Jackie was fantastic. She was friendly, helpful, and extremely accommodating. She went out of her way to help us get in, get a good site, and extend our stay when we wanted to stay an extra day. As far as how she keeps the facility, it is meticulous...well...as meticulous as a community living area can be. As far as her demeanor, you get what you give. Treat her with respect and she will treat you with respect. She's not your personal lacky. She's paid to keep the place clean and orderly...which is exactly what she does. Jackie, thanks again for the wonderful visit. We can't wait to come back.

We have stayed here before and enjoy the large lot's and supportive office staff. Virginia Beach waterfront is very close, as well as the Exchange and Commissary. I would suggest that everyone use some sort of water filter as the water here, although tasty, has a tendency to be muddy colored when you first open water valve. No big issue though, just plan on using water filter. I have found it easier to make my initial sewer connections before backing the 5th wheel onto the pad. That will save you from laying on your stomach and fighting with the hose and connection. The office/showers/laundry facility was immaculate; .75 to wash/dry. The jet's were using an alternate approach pattern while we were here, however I do love the sound of freedom! We will stay here again!

After "living" in our daughters driveway for many months and not knowing that it was a city violation, we moved to Ocean Pines. We have been here a month and have another month to go before going to Sea Mist on Dam Neck for 2 months and then back here for one more month. We love it here. The rebels that we are, we are parked with the front of our RV facing the golf course, while every one else is backed in and facing the street. We love sitting and just looking at the woods and lake. As far as jet noise? Comes with the territory and we do not mind "the sound of freedom" one bit. And believe it or not, it is quieter here than at our daughters home!! The only problem we have had is a neighbors dog attacking our little dog one day. No permanent damage done. And the owner was very apologetic and had even informed the office before we filed a complaint. We will definitely be back. Love it here.

Just wanted to update you on how committed Jackie is. I just called to make reservations for this upcoming weekend as our Florida vacation had to be canceled because of the oil. I called and left a message on the answering machine and about 5 minutes later Jackie called. She was very nice and accommodated our request of 2 sites. I was pleasantly surprised I could get this location with such little notice. Anyway, I will be back to update when we visit this weekend. The site required that I rate the campground. I will come back in and update the ratings when I visit.

Great place to stay while in Virginia Beach. Price was reasonable and sites were large, not very shaded but most sites are situated to get shade in the morning or in the evening, most spots with shade are taken by long term campers. The exchange and all other on base facilities are real close. There is a big, well stocked commissary up the road about a mile and a half from the campground. Code needed to get into the campground and the bathrooms are inside the office area which you will also need a code for. There is pay WiFi signal available and it was reasonable and stable, we were here for four days but paid for a week of internet, cheaper than if paying the daily rate. Jackie was very accommodating and does a terrific job taking care of this FamCamp. Everyone in the campground seemed friendly and courteous. We had a real nice bike ride down on the boardwalk but if you intend to use the city parking (which is much cheaper than the private parking) get there early or the lots are full. Will definitely stay here again if we get the chance when we are in this area.

Stayed in site 68, across from the office/bath house/laundry complex. Good site, level, stable 50 amp power (no fluctuations). And although the sewer connection was located in middle under rig, it worked just fine - minor inconvenience. While we don't use bath house facilities, we do use laundry. And both were kept very clean. Laundry prices were great, $1.00 to wash and $1.00 to dry. Having a security gate with code was a bonus. Would definitely stay here again.

Large clean campsite-great camp host-great location. My wife and I stayed over the Thanksgiving holiday and enjoyed the stay. Felt very safe. Had trouble finding the sewer hook up due to cover not marked. Camp host had this issue fixed within 20min after arrival. We will come again and hope others take advantage of this great campground.

Wonderful place to stay in the Virginia Beach area, price is great for the area. Navy exchange is just around the corner and there is a huge commissary just up the road. Jackie does a great job in the office, she really cares about the campground and keeping things nice we appreciated that. We were able to stay over the Memorial Day weekend when everything else in the area was booked solid. Everyone in the campground is friendly and stops to talk and share stories. We toured the area, visiting the Outer Bank, Jamestown and several other locations. There is a pay WiFi signal available and it was reasonable and stable. Will stay again when we are in the area.

Great campground! Jackie was wonderful to work with. She even called, when we were delayed by storms, and gave us instructions to get into the park after hours. Laundry was spotless...the only thing that could have made it better would have been cable TV. Overall a great place to spend a few days or weeks.

Great Camp Ground - Jackie is doing a good job, She worked with us being first time full timers and changing are minds about how long we were staying. The grounds keepers keep the park looking great. The rest rooms and laundry are outstanding. There are no pull thru sites, but all are very easy to back in to. No cable TV. Make sure your TV is digital or have a converter box. Last but not least the water presure was great.

Rick Sheffield worked hard to help two retired couples meet up with their RVs. He cheerfully adjusted my requests and schedules to adapt to the hot weather and friend's travel schedule. He called ahead with the gate code and helped us find two sites relatively close together. The price was right, the sound of the F-18s were great, the place was pristine, $25 a night great value. No cable, but not a big deal with satellite TV. Thanks, Rick. Dave Teal, Lt. Gen., USAF, Ret.

I gave the amenities a lower score only because there are few amenities at the actual campground. The building with showers and laundry was a newer, nicer building which was kept very clean. And there was a playground. I realize that the majority of people who stay at these military campgrounds do not have children but we do. But we kept busy with all the local attractions. The water park on Oceana base was wonderful and I was told the water park at Little Creek was just as nice. As for Jackie -- thanks so much for your hospitality that extended beyond the norm. She was extremely helpful and went out of her way to assist us with some special issues. She was great with my children and they really liked her as well. We would certainly visit again.

Love this campground! Jackie goes above and beyond to keep her campers happy. She is an excellent manager. The campground is always clean and there is a great playground for the kids. The only downside is the upper management PJ who harasses the people staying here and makes disparaging comments about active duty personnel. She isn’t around this campground very often so she is easy to avoid. I love the proximity to the beach and to the base services. I would stay here again as long as Jackie is still running the place!

We planned on staying a full month at Ocean Pines RV Campground but were forced to leave because of Hurricane Irene. We had a pretty good site (Site #4) but on Wednesday and Friday nights the noise from the Honky Tonk Bar across the street and outside of the campground (Smokies Place) was very loud ... lots of bikers. The military beach was outstanding! My wife and I were enjoying a peaceful time on the beach when our beach chairs began to sway to and fro ... it was the earthquake! No WiFi and no cable but good satellite reception. Easy to get to the Navy exchange and commissary. The Navy exchange was the largest exchange we have ever seen! Lots of F-18 Hornets doing touch-and-go practices and the planes got quite loud, but, hey, it's the sound of freedom, so we didn't mind. Hated to leave. We were going to move over to Sea Mist (brand new RV park right on the ocean) and stay a month or more, but that all changed with the hurricane. We will definitely come back to the Virginia Beach area. Where else can you experience an earthquake and be run off by a hurricane!
