G.G. left this review using the Directory software: Having several people rave about Onslow Beach we decided to try it. We have spent many days in Famcamps over the years however Onslow was the biggest disappointment of our lives. It is laid out so that it is difficult to back into a site, (even with a 30' travel trailer). There are two camp hosts, however in the 10 days we were there we only saw one. That was one as he was driving through the camp ground on his golf cart and was LESS than friendly. It appeared to me that his only reason for being there was for the free camp site. Both of these guys were side by side in the camp ground with signs pointing to each others site for help! The laundry and shower facilities were taken over by young Marines who would take a shuttle bus from the main base, (13 miles away) to do their laundry and take a shower. Yes, WiFi is available. The catch is you must rent a cable modem for $5.00 a day to receive it. Bring a LONG sewer hose as the hookups are a great distance from your unit. Also, be prepared to use a rather LONG water hose for your hookup as you may be using your neighbors faucet, (Bring a Y connector). If you have a pet (We have a Boston Terrier), be prepared to load him in your vehicle and take him a couple miles down the beach for his walk. DO NOT STEP OVER THE LINE OUTSIDE OF THE CAMP GROUND WITH YOUR DOG. It looks like they hire one person to monitor anyone who would do so. All in all, we could never recommend Onslow to anyone. By the way, if you really want a newspaper everyday, get ready to drive 26 miles round trip for one. M/Sgt USAF Retired

Where do I start? There are two hosts with one being on duty from 6pm to 8am every day of the week. Camp hosts check people into the campground and the other lodging all night long if required in addition to patrolling the beach and providing any assistance the guest might require. All utility hookups are a typical distance from the rv. The distance from main side to the campground is approximately 7 miles. The base provides shuttle bus service to and from the base to the beach because it is a recreation center. There is absolutely no need for people to be bussed in to do laundry. That being said the laundry is used by people staying in our lodging sites in addition to the rv sites. Cable modems as of this week are history. Free high speed wireless wifi is available along a three mile stretch of the beach along with 60+ channels of cable tv. Dogs are not allowed on the beach by base order. A dog beach is provided. There are no shared connections in the rv park. It is nine miles from the main gate to the beach. Newspapers are available much closer than that. By the way, this is a Marine Corps base and the recreation facilities are here especially for them. For $15 a night, what more could you want.
