WARNING!!!Reservations are not honored here. They evidently have a selective reservation list. We made reservations and gave a credit card number to hold the reservation 6 weeks in advance of our arrival. Upon our arrival at 1030 we were told that our reservation had been canceled and they only had one site open for 3 days. (our reservations were for a week). We spoke with the manager and he refused to help. WARNING WARNING WARNING!!! Do not arrive before 1200. The manager refused to allow us to know the site number before 1200 even though we were forced to pay for the site in advance. We have a 37' 5th wheel. I'm oxygen dependent and was forced to sit in the hot truck from 1030 to 1200. We were finally given the site number at 1200 only to find out that the only way to get into the site was to run over tents. There were several sites open that would accommodate our rig without running over tents, but we were refused one of those sites. We demanded a refund and thankfully found a site at Cabin Creek, a civilian RV park. Our experience is not an isolated incident. We spoke to several military people from all branches of the services who had similar experiences with Onslow Beach staff. I thought the recreation facilities were for the benefit of military personnel, not the civilian staff who are contracted to run them.

Onslow Beach rarely if ever loses reservations. A common problem experienced is that reservations must be paid for within 14 days of having been made. If the payment is not made, the reservation is canceled so that someone else can get a reservation. Periodically people make reservations, pay for them and do not show up. Prepayment minimizes that. All sites are back in sites and in the back circle it can be a little tight at times. To my knowledge no tents have ever been run over. If there was a problem getting into a site, someone would have gladly gotten any tents or vehicles out of the way. Camp hosts between 6pm and 8am try to resolve any such issues once they are informed of problems. It sounds like you had a bad time but I am sure that there must be more to this story.
