My plan was to stay in one of the Yurts they have available for camping on the premises. My visit was just after a snow storm and none were available until spring. So we had to stay in the Lodge, very nice facility with very nice amenities. I would stay there again anytime of the year.

I witnessed this park being built as I lived across the street in the military housing units. The concrete pads are a welcomed addition to the new campground. I found the old campground did not have working laundry machines or good drainage. With daily rain storms it necessary to find a good dry site anywhere in New Orleans. Make sure you lock up your bicycles when you leave your site, my son's was stolen after leaving it out overnite....

Stayed during spring break 2015. The Host had a family emergency during our stay, so no help getting things done. We were supprised to find out that open fires at the campsite are not allowed, yet you can have an open fire in the BBQ pits provided at each site. Trips into little rock were longer than expected due to the construction on the highway, there is a camping world down the road on I30. I found the lake nearby...

It is now shut down. On the former site of the campground is the Marine Reserve Headquarters. I was the last chaplain assigned here to the base chapel and now it is planed to be "Federal City" so no more recreation programs. The NAS at Belle Chase just completed a new campground with paved pads and working Laundry.

This is a great place to stay. I was living here for a few months when we first moved to Texarkana and I loved living here at the lake. The trip into town was the hardest part of the stay, but there are oppurtunites to see nature everywhere. Be careful about your speed on base, even though the streets seem deserted at night there are security cops everywhere. A ticket on base requires an appearance in federal court in Texarkana....

Great camping experience! We had a hard time getting backed in to our site, it seems the long timers all take the end sites and the one night guest are stuck trying to back in in the middle of the night waking everyone up. The camp host was helpful and did not mind helping me get backed in. The base is set up as a training command, so no commissary. The closest one is at Whiting field in Milton, FL....

This location is no where near the location on the map. Look north of the airport for the two lakes and it is on the left side of the left lake. There is NO CELL PHONE SERVICE. It is a 30 min. Drive on mostly dirt roads to reach civilization. I grew up in this community, and had no idea that this place existed. It is quiet during the week, drilling guardsmen will keep you up when the range...
