Verizon Unlimited Plan - Jetpacks Throttled

For those of you who use a Verizon Jetpack for internet access, please be aware that under the new Unlimited Plan the Jetpacks will be throttled to 3G speeds after 10GB of data use on that line. They are treated just like a tethered phone hotspot which will also be throttled after 10GB.

From Verizon chat:

Verizon
Good morning, Mel! The Jetpack would have 4G speeds up to 10 GB, and then it would reduce to 3G speeds

I just switched to the Verizon Unlimited Plan. I hope they change the rule on the Jetpacks. I was paying a $10 a month access fee for my Jetpack under my older plan. Under the Unlimited plan, they charge $20 access just like a smart phone.

Each smart phone on the plan get 22 gb of unrestricted 4G data plus 10 gb of unrestricted hot spot data. The jetpack only get the 10 gb. Doesn't seem logical other than if you look at competitors plans you can see that competitors only offer 10 gb on a mifi in similar unlimited plans.

I think I am going to keep what I have. Right now I have a 30GB bucket for a Jetpack and 2 smart phones that I signed up for on a "sale" right after Millenicom sold us off to Verizon. It costs me $164 plus tax with my Veterans Discount. No throttling on anything all the way to 30GB and no overages after 30GB but I go down to 2G speeds with "data protection" turned on. I use about 20GB a month on the Jetpack and about 1GB per phone.. The new Unlimited would cost me $153 plus tax with Veterans Discount but the Jetpack gets throttled at 10GB. For the $11 difference I'll keep my 4G speeds.

If they were not throttling Jetpacks I would have switched to Unlimited in a heartbeat.

That makes sense Mel. I've got 4 phones and a jetpack on my account. I had the 12 gb plan with 8 gb of bonus data (20 gb total) for $205 per month. The unlimited plan gives me 10 gb on the jet pack and for each phone used as a hot spot (50 gb total) and 22 gb on each phone (88 gb total). The new plan was only $10 more than I was paying and a ton of data.. It'll require a little "hot spot" juggling to fully utilize hot spot data but most months we don't use more than 10 gb on the jetpack. If I stream some tv, I'll just do it on one of the phones hot spot. This sounds confusing as I type it and I'm familiar with the new plan. Nothing's easy these days.

Also be aware - Veteran discounts CANNOT be applied on the unlimited plan.

If it wasn't for the throttling, I would switch to unlimited. For now, I'm keeping my Verizon 40GB plan with 2 phones, tablet, and a Jetpack. I just need to watch my usage, as I almost go over every month.

Larry.....when I went through the first stage of sign-up for the Unlimited plan it did, in fact, apply my 15% Veterans discount.

I also read on a site that reviews data plans that the Military and Veterans discount is still valid on the new Unlimited plan. All other Employee discounts will not be valid on the Unlimited.

From androidauthority.com:

“ELEU and CLEU discounts will not apply” to the Verizon Unlimited plan, but customers will “be eligible for the equipment discount.” Military and veteran discounts still apply.
