CAUTION! This military campground has no water. The water system has been down since August 2016 and I was told there is no money in the CE budget to make the necessary repairs. I was told by the camp host that the underground valve for the shore water spigots are defective and each one will need to be dug up and replaced. The camp host and the assistant host are the only campsites with water. To get water you have to relocate to one of those sites and full your fresh water tank. We made reservations for a 20-day stay a month in advance. No one mentioned there was no water in the campground. We arrived, selected our campsite and turned on the water—nothing! I went to the office and they apologized for not telling me in advance. They refunded my deposit and we scrambled to get reservations in Fort Collins instead. Bummer! I checked with this website at the time I made my reservations and read the August 20 post about the water being off for 30 days. Naturally, I thought the problems had been fixed since there were no other posts since October 2016. Now I have learned to inquire about problems of this nature before making my reservations and not assume it is repaired.

This is overall a good facility; very much improved management since the previous year before when the reservation system was a disaster and many permanent squatters staying long as they wanted with no room for those with reservations. Communication between the camp host(s) and outdoor recreation seems much improved. 45 day is the maximum stay limit for the entire summer season (before Oct 1) which is better for all concerned. The best part is the convenience to Denver and to the Rocky Mountains. A few more shade trees for the hot summer heat would make this a first class facility. Restrooms and showers are cleaned daily and laundry is free.

The water problem is not a simple line break. It is an engineering problem that takes more time and money to fix. Wifi: They have the best solution to wifi that I have encountered. For a refundable, upon return, $50 deposit, they will loan you a Verizon jetpack (hotspot) with unlimited data. This is a good deal!! There are no off set barriers at the Mississippi Gate and the coord are correct.

The parking lot for outdoor rec is small. We drove to the famcamp and spoke with the host. He explained about the water problem but showed us where we could fill our rv tank, up the hill. After picking a site we drove to outdoor recreation and checked in. The price was $10/night because the issue, so we truly felt compensated. We are experienced travelers on the go and passing through many places. If you're looking for a resort for entertainment or can't work with (stuff happens) go somewhere else and pay those prices (at least $35/night).As a matter of fact the last couple of nights we were on the other side of town, Standley Park for $19/night with NO electric, water or dump! Thankful Buckley had a place for us to stay.

Wow, I'm really disappointed. I'm not even there yet for my 9/1 reservation and received a voice mail stating that ALL of the water to BAFB Famcamp is off and would likely be for 30 days. I'm beginning to regret the rave I wrote last summer when I left this campground. It's hard to imagine how the camp hosts could have a good experience living and working there if the base leadership regards their residential water source as this optional. In a military housing area, CE would be up all night fixing a water leak because PEOPLE MUST HAVE WATER. It's a quality of life issue, and commanders know this. When I phoned, I got a b.s. "I'm just doing what I'm told, ma'am." from the MANAGER. That's pathetic, inexcusable, and unacceptable. It *speaks volumes* about the relationship between MWR, the FSS and base commander, and civilian contractors. Whether it's a civilian company or a military base, if you make care of your people a low priority you should expect misery and concomitantly low morale across the base. Missions fail when you treat people this way. You can do better; you are taught leadership principles. USE THEM! It's not just that the camp hosts work hard to take care of people there with little thanks and poor resources, it's not just that the MWR staff are made powerless to resolve issues because they don't have the infrastructure or autonomy they need, it's not just that the Famcamp is used by veterans who deserve excellent care, it's that YOU'RE NOT PAYING ATTENTION TO WHAT MATTERS. SHAME ON YOU. I'm very much hoping that I get another voice mail telling me, "Ma'am, we're glad you're coming to our Famcamp because your site fees provide a high amount of revenue to our FSS programs, which in turn support the military families and the mission they fulfill here at Buckley AFB. So we got that water break problem fixed for every site ASAP, and we're ready to welcome every veteran and AD camper who will come to our base and feel a part of our community!" C'mon. It's obvious this is about leadership failure that begins at the top.

Poor management. Arrived a noon. Drove my car over to Bldg 1022. Had a reservation for a week, made with the management in Bldg 1022. Was informed I couldn't check in until after 1400. It was implied that we should leave and come back later. We watched this confusion with check-in go no throughout the week with other campers. This could be a nice FamCamp if managed properly. The folks next door decided to go to another campground after their first few days. Best to avoid this FamCamp.

We just spent 3 weeks at Buckley Famcamp, and enjoyed our stay. The Famcamp is located away from the city and majority of the base with quick access to the commissary and BX. It is quiet except for the "sounds of freedom", F-16s, taking off and buzzing the runway which is located right across the street. Don't get me wrong, we loved hearing and seeing them and took many great pics! Free laundry, 2 washers and 2 dryers. Bath/restroom facilities appeared clean, we did not use them. When you check in you can borrow an unlimited WiFi, $50 deposit, that is returned when you return the WiFi. It worked great! Sites are level. Although there were some families with children in the Famcamp they were quite and not bothersome, no bouncy houses. Over all we really liked this campground and will use it again if we return to the Denver area. Now the not so positive: the campground is run by MWR and has NO emphasis placed on it from the base/MWR commanders consequently MWR pays no attention. There were 5 sites with broken water pipes that have not been repaired and no one shows any signs of wanting to repair them. The streets within the Famcamp are narrow, not enough maneuver space when you must turn corners, as evidenced by the mud on the roads and ruts in the grass areas. At least one site is all but impossible to get into even with a trailer due to the sites positioning and the narrow roads. The Famcamp sits on a hill and many of the sites are low, when it rains they retain water. Mowing happens only before holidays so the grass was high, due to all of the rain. They mowed just before Memorial day weekend and brought a street sweeper in and cleaned off the interior roads. What a difference! Do not trust your GPS, even with the coordinates listed, ours took us to the 6th Street gate. Call ahead and get the physical address of the Mississippi gate, much easier to maneuver! The gate guard was super about allowing us to go through and told us that 18 wheelers came through all the time. The off set barriers ~ once you get through the gate can be maneuvered but not easily. With a little emphasis from the base/MWR commanders this could be a 5+ Famcamp!

Camp host is active duty and his sight is his home. The bounce house he rented with teenage girls screaming and yelling for all to hear shows this. They over booked again we were lucky someone left early. Two sights wear OOC due to water problems that no one is fixing to fast. Great location, great value, nice sights. Someone needs to get better hold on reservations and just common sense management. Reading many reviews show no one's in a rush.

Best AF FamCamp experienced. Outdoor Recreation was very accommodating, as well as the camp host. We shortened our stay from 7 to 6 nights, so to depart prior to a late winter storm ... Outdoor Recreation refunded our 7th night without incident - not typical for most RV parks. Only two washers and two dryers in the laundry room, but machines are free and work well. The FamCamp is isolated from the rest of the Aurora area, providing a pleasant illusion of getting away from the city. This time of year there are plenty of birds: Western Meadowlarks, American Robins, and even hawks. If space is available, we will definitely return, next time traveling through this area.

We had reservations for over a month. Upon arrival the camp is full, our reservations invalid as they were full and the "camp hosts" have a sign on the door stating they sleep during the day and do not knock in big letters We went over to the rec center and there we found out our reservations were filled. Spoke to a manager said that there could not be a sign on the door of the host RV. 3 other RV folks joined into the conversation and all had same issue. Not sure why reservations are accepted if not honored. This camp needs better hosts and better organization.

I do not agree at all with docholliday's review. This Famcamp has a friendly atmosphere and a fair reservation system. It is unfortunate that some campers do not realize before they arrive that they need a reservation in the summer months and arrive expecting to find an empty space--it is just not possible to accommodate everyone with only 38 spaces available so you need to call ahead. While it is true the camp host is not available 24/7, but I don't believe they should be expected to be nor do I believe it detracts from the overall management of the campground. We found the camp hosts to be available more often than not. Campsites are cleaned and prepared for the next camper as soon after they are vacated as possible. It may also be inconvenient for a large RV to not have a pull-through site available, but no one pays more than another for a premium site so first-come-first-served is how it is. When larger sites become available, the camp host is happy to assist the larger rigs move to a preferable site. If this is not acceptable, maybe this is not where you want to stop. All staff make every attempt to accommodate as many campers with their preferences as is possible. Very pleasant stay and highly recommend this Famcamp!

Although this Famcamp has been open for several years now, and even though it APPEARS to be a well-laid out facility with paved, mostly pull-through spots with grass, management leaves everything to be desired. When there IS a Camp Host, who is rarely available, massive abuse is rampant as far as reservation system cheating, rule breaking, and failure to apply regulations equally. On and off season, you have to register/pay half way across the base with NO parking available for large trailers/RV's, they are NOT open on Sunday and limited hours on Saturday, sites are NOT assigned so you don't know whether a tent camper is sitting in a 50' pull-through, when the only first-come-first-serve spot for YOUR 45' RV is a 20' back-in spot. Their 'management' almost never supervises activity in Famcamp, and are VERY discourteous at best. Customer Service is horrible with a "YOU bow down to us" attitude rather than the requisite "We're here to serve YOU" that one would expect. Be prepared for a TERRIBLE stay!

It is rare that I feel inspired to write a glowing review of a FamCamp, but this one should rightly win an award for Best 2015 FamCamp overall! It's not just that Elisha and Charlie are the friendliest, most accountable and hard working site hosts; it's not just that the scenery (see pics) and site spaces are expansive and beautiful; it's not just that northern Colorado offers lots to do; or that Buckley AFB is new and quickly expanding into a great facility...more than all of this folks have been just plain friendly and fun. I'm in my third year of full-time RV travel, with Buckley FamCamp 14th in my long list of military base stops in 36 months. Buckley AFB and the folks who run it have made my experience here feel like I'm in a *community*. Not only will I come back here, but I wish I could have stayed longer. Other plans and a very full camp are sending me south again (back through Tucson to the Coronado beach for winter) but I would simply stay here if I could. As most of you know, meeting other veterans and their families is a great place to begin any social setting. Here at BAFB, we've all BBQ'd, laughed, gotten to know each other, and just felt true rest in a world seemingly gone mad. The only other place I've had this much fun was at Hill AFB FamCamp, where folks are also crazy fun. The Buckley Outdoor Rec office folks (Shane, Dakota, Jeff) also made it clear that they're doing all they can to offer the best experience for RV visitors. There are plans to expand BAFB Famcamp to add more spaces, but they are also planning to give the sites some shade and to add some better overflow options. Given how new this place is, and how great it already is, I can only guess that Jeff and his staff will soon be even more busy offering this experience to more retirees and their families. Having said all of this, it's also true that there are wickedly scary rattlesnakes (no kidding, I saw one--they ARE here!); an epidemic of rabbits, ground squirrels and prairie dogs, and okay an occasional few hours in the laundry room for a tornado warning....BUT! Once the weather calmed down and we got used to watching where we stepped, it was all worth it! I purchased my first pair of binoculars this year just so that I could watch the beautiful hawks holding reign over the lake behind the park. In the morning, even now as I write, the song birds are a noticeably beautiful backdrop to the shimmering of leaves that are just now becoming yellow-tipped revealing fall is on its way. My favorite bird of all is here, too: the Magpie. Gorgeous, smart and fun to watch. Here's what I would hope to see added at Buckley soon: shade over picnic tables, a 21 day rotation during peak season, an indoor pool on base, more of the excellent (and free) washer/dryers), and a quick repurposing of the empty building where the boat house for the lake once was for the site hosts to use. There's plenty(!) of land here to make this place rival even USAFA's FamCamp, and this year's unprecedentedly full sites reveal the very high interest among military service members. As I always say when I write MCG.com reviews, if you (by whom I mean FSS and Base Commanders!!!) do the math, you'll quickly realize that there's NO OTHER activity on any military base creating this kind of revenue. You would be, if you'll forgive me for saying so, stupid not to leverage the advantages for everyone concerned. At $18k/month for just 30 sites, why not 3 times that and all you need to build that pool? Get ready, Buckley is THE destination for next spring and summer. See you all here....

Don't know about the previous bad reviews & comments, but our experience has been one of the best we've had anywhere. I called about a week in advance and made our reservation, but our travel from Offutt to here were shortened by a heavy rain storm, so we arrived around noon (check in is at 2 PM). Went all the way to the CG without seeing 1022. The host was very friendly and said that they'd probably check us in since spaces were first come, first served and several had just left. The directions should probably be updated, as we'd driven past it after entering the Mississippi Gate (watch out for the speed bumps!). If you download the .pdf base map, this building is on it (I didn't look!). Our experience at Outdoor Rec. was also great. Although there's not a large parking lot, once you get inside, they are very professional and courteous. We wanted a hot spot and since they'd just received a batch of new Verizon ones and were having some difficulties with them, they thoroughly checked out one for us to be certain we wouldn't have to come back. The CG is clean and the grass is short enough considering it's native for the area and not a golf course. Laundry has two washers and two driers, all free. Although it's off one side of the runway, there's not a lot of flight ops here so it's quiet. More noise from trains than planes. Only possible complaints have to do with not having any diesel on base and having to find an empty spot on your own. Since Outdoor Rec. is all the way on the other side of the base, I can understand why they have to do this, and no diesel is the Exchange's issue. We'll be certain to stay here again if we're in the area.

Arrived on a Sunday so the office wasn't open. Went directly to the famcamp. Being that my Coach and trailer are just about 70' I would have liked to have a pull through but there was only one back in, disconnected the trailer and made due. I checked with the "host" and their daughter answered the door (parents at commissary), she was extremely polite and helpful, could only wish some of the camp hosts at other famcamps were as professional as her. I was abe to move to a pull through the next day. The laundry is "free"..nice bonus. The only problem that I see is that there is some "long term" residents. They do follow the rules and extend with space available. I would suggest to call in advance for site availability. Over-all we had a very plesent stay. Nice level concrete pads and many plenty long enough to fit any long rig. I agree with what was posted in the last review. I would and have recommended this CG to others already.

I have to disagree with the last reviewer, who was also here this month. Comparing this stay with one 2 years ago shows great improvement in the management of this camp. That is not to say that it couldn't be better, but progress is being made. 2 years ago the grass and weeds were knee high and higher ... such a shame in a facility with otherwise great potential. The ground cover is still rough, but it is trimmed to a 5" level (appropriate for drought conditions) and if it gets too high before the next trim, there is a lawnmower that you can borrow and keep your site to your own preference. (This offer is made by the Camp Host with tongue in cheek, but I think he will give you the loan of his machine!) If you report that you have seen a snake, they will mow immediately ... there have been rattlesnakes seen in the past, though rarely. The Outdoor Rec office was fine to work with when I called for availability. You go to the FamCamp, choose a site, and then go to outdoor rec to check in. Bear in mind that this camp fills up quickly in the summer and if you park in a site without a reservation, you may get bad news that all the sites have been spoken for and you will need to get back on the road. There is no overflow, but there is a place to park in the campground while you are securing your spot at Outdoor Rec, if you have not reserved. We were greeted promptly and nicely when we arrived, and the Camp Host made sure we were on the list of arrivals. They carefully explained the grass situation (after I commented on how much better the place looked) and the mention of snakes (it IS Colorado, after all!). The 2 young ladies mentioned in a prior review are the Camp Host's daughters and they are lovely and helpful kids. The laundry equipment is new (and free!) and the showers/bathrooms were very clean. The dumpsters are handy and at one end of the facility ... the farther the better, in my book, if you are worried about rodents and what is wanting to EAT the rodents! It is a small camp ... more trash receptacles would be silly. There ARE several places to get a bag or dispose of doggy waste. That is a plus in my book! The Main Gate closes at 6pm, which is a pain, because it is a long way around to the Mississippi Gate (RV and Commercial). Remember that RVs and large vehicles MUST use Mississippi. With the GPS coordinates, it is easily found. Medium sized BX and Commissary, but every other store under the sun within 5 miles. Great proximity to Denver airport, loads to see and do. Great Verizon signal for my personal wifi. All sites have full hookups, concrete pad and table. No trees, but that means a great shot at the sky for your satellite. LOVE being near the airstrip ... super exciting things to watch!. Very few long term campers ... no homesteaders who have been here for years, that I can see. Clean, tidy and fine camp.

Another BAD AFB campground experience. VERY POORLY MANAGED FamCamp. We were welcomed to the FamCamp by 2 young kids (maybe 12 years old). ADA sites are being used by anyone staying and are not just for the disabled (according to Outdoor Rec) as all the sites are a first come/first served. We were there for 3 days before anyone was at the office for us to pay for our stay. The grass was ridiculously high and when I asked about it, I was told there was a lawnmower at the FamCamp I could use free of charge. We had reservations to stay for 30 days but only stayed for 7. Got a phone call and text 2 days later from the camp host asking if we had left or was still there. No base map, local map(s), nor information was provided at any time during our stay. The plus side of this camp was the free laundry (2 washers/dryers) and the BX/Commissary were close and of average sized. The fitness path was nice and with the wild rabbits and prairie dogs provided some comical bike rides. This could really be a great place to stay if the Base Command would get involved and show some pride in their facilities and ensure some responsible adults are available for checking in patrons.

New campground with concrete pads, level sites and lots of open area for the satellite dish. We would stay here again and liked the FamCamp. As previously stated, there is no place to park at Outdoor Recreation so recommended you drive directly to the FamCamp, pick out a site and find the Camp Host. We met Aliesha and were very impressed. She is 'hands on" and very knowledgeable as well as helpful. She offered to clean out our site before we set up. No need for that, there was some dirt that had drained onto the pad but I could easily hose it off which I did. The laundry only has two washers and driers but it is free which is nice. The wifi doesn't work but you can leave a $50 deposit for a Verizon Jetpack Mifi which works great! This place is well run and those are three examples (hired a good camphost on site, free laundry, Mifi option) how they are focused on the camper's experience. Other suggestions: double the size of the parking lot at Outdoor Recreation, allow check-ins before 2 PM, and put another dumpster on the other side of the campground. All in all -- this is a very nice campground. We camped in a 40' motorhome.

We arrived late on a holiday and initially found it difficult to access the Base. However, when we found the main gate it was a piece of cake. The campground was very clean and well kept. The camp hostess Aleisha and her husband Charley were superb. They were extremely helpful, accommodating and hospitable. Our stay was very nice and would return except the altitude gave my wife some problems and for that reason alone we probably won't be able to return to this very nice campground. Thanks Aleisha and Charley! The Moore's

The lack of reservation system worked for me, but others coming in and not realizing that they had to go to the Outdoor Recreation building was probably confusing. Several units had to wait for people to leave and if they decided to extend their stay, they were out of luck. The womens shower room was hot because they had the thermostat set to 90. The handicapped shower had no cold water so you would get burned by the hot water. There were several children here and with little supervision by their parents, a few of them broke windows in the buildings, tore around the roads without helmets on their bikes and basically ran wild. On the positive side, the outdoor rec people were very helpful when my water wouldn't work. Luckily I had enough in my tank to carry me over till they could get it fixed. Being at the end of the flight line it was pretty noisy early in the mornings but with a huge dog walk area, I was able to keep my dog happy. This site was very convienent for me since I have family in the area. I had to wait almost two months to get my RV fixed so I could continue on my trip. Offering the WIFI unit was VERY good for connecting to internet. Overall good experience. Suggest they get a camp host to deal with issues mentioned above.
