Our second time here. We have tried to stay here several times in the past but we were in the busy seasons then. In early Nov it was almost full but every night we were here there were sites available. What's not to like. FHU. Level sites. Free laundry. Great view. Very nice hosts in the office. I don't know if it was just our Garmin GPS or if all GPS do this but it routed us to the Coast Guard Station on A1A, down an alley and then on the Patrol Road. Can't do that so don't try. Our GPS probably just wanted to go to Singleton's which is worth the stop.

This was by far one of the nicest Famcamps we've have stayed at. Friendly staff, clean facilities, free washer and dryers. We had the beach all to ourselves and enjoyed watching the ships pass by. Would definitely recommend.

I was pretty excited getting into this park! I've heard it's pretty hard to get into... I was able to book a week on the front row last Summer. We loved it so much, I decided to see if we could get a few more days out of them since it is a 30 day park. I could not believe it! I went into the office to inquire and the lady behind the desk kept hinting that we could stay longer if I was willing to pay her extra... I really didn't get it at first, but then I asked to speak to the Manager. He came out and basically said to me, "Whatever she says". WHAT!! I was stationed here in the 80's and I just can't believe that any Military Installation would allow such antics! NEVER AGAIN!

My wife and I stay at NS Mayport all the time! I have heard over and over how hard it is to get in here... It's true, they really don't answer the phones well, but just talk to the sweet girl in the office, Ginger. She is so dedicated that she gives out her personal number. She has done many favors for us throughout. You do need to give her incentives, but this place is well worth it!! We love staying here no matter what it costs us!

My Wife and I stayed the 5 days over looking the waterway. Waking up to a sunny morning and light breezes makes a start to a beautiful day. The staff and Camp Hosts were all very accommodating and friendly. We would stay again.

The in season rates are more than "slightly higher" - we paid $34 a night for a waterfront site. But it was still cheaper than civilian parks this time of the year. There weren't a lot of ships in our end of the harbor and, sadly, no Christmas lights on the ships that were there. The office staff checked for our ETA early on arrival day, which was a nice touch.

This is our favorite Military RV Park so far! The people in the office are the nicest. The spots are positioned perfectly East to West to take the most advantage of sunlight throughout the day. The nearby beach is clean and spacious and there is plenty of fishing in the nearby bay. A+

Wonderful place to park and watch nature and ships! We were supposed to be at Osprey Park, but due to several cancellations, when we checked in the staff was able to park me on the front row at Pelican Roost, yippee! What a surprise for our 41st wedding anniversary! Beach access is a short walk away and the views are just amazing. There are overall limits to the river front sites and back sites, but all seem to have a great view. The washers/dryers are free, but wish they would add a couple of more washers. We will certainly be back here again! We camped here in a 30' class C motorhome.

Great place for families! Long termers fairly nice. Saltwater fishing right across the road. Saw sea turtles! Great beach within walking distance.....it is closed at night despite lack of signage. MPs were pretty nice about it. Club house and laundry facility was great. Sites close but not too close, fair number of pull thrus. Will be back.

This is a great park. It sits right on the channel where the ocean meets the St. John's River and immediately next to the docks where they tie up the Navy ships. On any given day you can watch Navy ships, cargo ships, fishing boats, pleasure boats, and/or cruise ships go in and out of the channel. The park is spotless clean, and well run. There are 2 dog runs right on the water's edge. One for larger dogs and one for smaller dogs. The Navy wifi is excellent and Verizon cell signal is strong. You are not assigned a site but when you sign in they tell you what sites are available and you can choose which one you want. Let me say that site 22 is outstanding. Great view of the channel/ocean and it feels very roomy and comfortable. The sites are spaced far enough apart that you don't feel crowded and the utilities are placed well and work well. 22 is on the second row. While there, we had a great Thanksgiving pot luck with lots of people and lots of food. I will mention that, during our stay, we had more windy days than not. Very windy...25 to 40 mph winds. Could be time of year with weather highs and lows moving through, but too often it was 'stay indoors' wind. That's okay though because the view of the water from our big windows was just fine. We will go back anytime we are in the area.

Our first time staying there and was impressed with staff and management of facility. Nice club house open late for guests to use. We had a nice level large pull through site. Hook-ups all worked well. Laundry and ice were free. Will definitely stay here again!!

This is our favorite campground. Can't beat being on the river and next to the beach, our daughter loves watching the ships come in and out. Good restaurants within short drive of post especially the Safe Harbor Seafood Market.

We stopped here for a few days to visit friends in Jacksonville. The sites along the waterfront give a good view of the ship traffic on the St Johns river (and any ships entering/leaving the Navy boat basin). Last time we visited a Canadian sub came in for the weekend. Laundry is free. There is always a wind blowing off of the Atlantic so you cannot put your awning out. There is a dog park across the street along the waterfront. There is a two week limit but if you are coming during the winter, book you site well in advance because it is full all winter. The NEX and commissary is offsite and closed on Mondays.

Over all good place. Front desk personnel are polite. Efficient. Helpful. Couldn't ask for more. Both of the women on the front check in desk are w o n d e r f u l. Improvements are coming. Be slowly. Only issue we had, and heard from other campers, bringing issues to the manager is like talking to the wall. "Yes sir three bags full." Then the same stuff goes on. She does not care. Time for a change of managers. Seems certain employees, and hosts, think the rules do not apply to them. But you Mr Camper better comply. Dare complain about something will result in manager finding some Mickey Mouse issue with you, your rig, or your site. As pay back. Wrong attitude to have. The MWR staff needs to set the example and follow their own rules. This type of attitude results in people not having faith in management and going over their head(s) to get concerns addressed. This is a sign that something is broken. At least they got rid of the "Y" hooking up on the rear row. Used to put 3 rigs on one box/water connection. Wrong! Also, the bunch of useless so called "workers" of the campground are gone. There used to be about 10 or so of them hanging out there. Not paying rent. Having dumb minor jobs. One woman, young girl, friend of friend of the Director, was not doing anything but free loading here. Darn good location! Right on water. Watch ships coming and going. Dont waste your time talking with the manager. Go to director of MWR personally and/or base CO's office. Once enough complaints are fielded to higher ups possibly improvements will be made.

First time to this campground. Outstanding views of the channel. The grounds were well taken care of. Check in was easy. I Only wish I was asked if I wanted the front row. I was told we have you in the back row.

AWESOME!! My husband & I spent 2 weeks at Pelican Roost. The office staff was so helpful. We were able to choose our campsite from 3 front row sites. The campground was well taken care of. The view is always awesome - breathtaking sunsets that only my God can paint, cargo, & cruise ships, Navy & Coast Guard vessels coming in & going out on the St. Johns River several times a day. And dolphins regularly appear. We certainly enjoyed our stay & visiting with our retired military & their families. I’m glad we decided to give this place another chance & are looking forward to returning next year! Also, Singleton’s Seafood Shack is a great place to eat!

We stayed at Pelican Roost for 19 Days in April 2018 - $20 @ night. Arrival - The signage to get to the park is non existent, so make sure you ask the gate guards at the main gate for directions. There are two different streets that lead to the park entrance and either can accommodate larger rigs. Just FYI, there are two RV Parks (Pelican Roost and Osprey Cove) on the base so make sure they do not send you to the wrong park. We really enjoyed staying at Pelican Roost. It was a nicely maintained, quiet, peaceful park, except for the occasional helicopters and training gunfire off the boats protecting the waterways. Don’t get me wrong, I love this stuff, so to me it was very fascinating. You can watch the big ships come and go, military and civilian. You can go fishing off the rocks lining the shore line and there is a beautiful beach area that is in walking distance from the campground. The park is right next to base baseball fields where you can watch a game or two. They have a nice recreation hall with quite a few tables that can be used to play games or relax at while eating ice cream. They have two televisions and a small kitchen that is available for our use. The base gymnasium is also close, as is the bowling alley. We didn’t go to either of these places but a neighbor said the gym was very nice. The bathrooms and showers are nice and well kept. They have a free-to-use laundry room in a separate building, with 5 washers and 8 dryers. The RV sites were large and all had a concrete slab with full hookups. We did not have a front water view site, as those seem to book early and stay occupied. The front sites would be pretty cool to have, being able to watch all the activities as ships enter and leave the river portage and the Navy lagoon. We saw pelicans and dolphins and they ask if you should see a whale, to please report it. There also have tent camping sites, in a separate designated area. I don't think open campfires are allowed at least I didn’t see or smell any burning. There are quite a few feral cats here. I was told at one point as the sailors departed this duty station that they left their cats behind. The base at one point gathered them up and neutered and spayed them and released the ones that could survive. You can tell if they have been fixed because they the tip of one ear is gone, I fell in love with one of them, my husband named her “F.C” for Fat Cat. What I found is that they want to be loved but they won’t let you pick them up or cuddle they, they will swat at you. I was able to to get F.C. to trust me enough to brush her. Her fir was starting to get matted and I just didn’t want to leave her like that. She loved it. They do not accept USPS mail delivery, only FedEx and UPS. The office staff was very friendly and helpful. We learned that if you want to improve your chances at reserving a space, you should call right at the 6 months out date, as that is what others do. We didn’t do that but the staff was very helpful and asked us to book what we could and then to keep calling back to book the other days. Eventually we did get all the days we needed. I would definitely stay here again.
