Time for an update on this great little park. We live only three hours away, so we have visited frequently for the last fifteen years. The best, and most pleasant, change recently is a new park manager who goes out of her way to accommodate campers. Very nice change from the prior management, and I expect some of the old-timers to return this winter.
Other than all the new picnic tables, not much else has changed. All the traffic taking a shortcut through the "B" loop has destroyed the road. Five years ago, the MWR manager told everyone the road would be rebuilt that year. Still waiting for that. While there is a nice bathhouse, laundry, and community room/kitchen in the B loop (which higher hq has directed be used for "recreational" campers), the laundry and TV room in the A loop for long-termers, has been under repair for more than a year (with no work in progress). Grass stickers are a frequent complaint, but the contractor actually does a pretty good job of mowing and preventing stickers. However, sometimes they get a couple of weeks of rain, and the stickers take over. Watch your pets. Hint: If you have a 45' class A with a mud flap that prevents backing over a curb to park over the grass, try booking an A loop site on the online system, and the park will accommodate you if possible. (The 50' pads in the A loop are actually <40' on the short side where you park.) Good T-Mobile HI coverage, but regular cell service can be spotty as there are no cell towers on base.
